Fault p0544 egt sensor 1- anyone had this
Hi all, had the flashing glow plug and not so smooth acceleration. Quick scan threw up p0544 andExhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor 1, bank 1 - circuit malfunction. have a new sensor on the way, just wondering if anyone has managed to replace this without the special vw tool and whether the hot bolt paste is needed or will copper grease do the same job? cheers for the help

2ltr TDI - any way to extend glow plug warmup when starting with kessy?
It likely isn’t your glow plugs. These engines are known for a long turnover. Worth a search, think it’s to do with the vvt solenoid

Gurgling sound from dashboard on first engine start
Worth searching across the other mqb cars which also have the issue- Leon’s, golf’s and a3s. Search for blocked heater matrix, leaking charge air cooler, leaking egr cooler, water pump failure and you should bring up some old threads

2014 Tdi vRS - oil/diesel leak under bonnet
Below your hand is the pcv pipe. It vents oil and air from the crank case. Hard to tell from your photo but maybe looks like it has been disconnected? That would lead to oil vapour in that area

Gurgling sound from dashboard on first engine start
The gurgling sound is air in the coolant going to the heater matrix behind the dash. Would need to know other symptoms to help diagnose what’s causing the coolant loss. Lots of things could be causing it

Buying vRS TDI help - white smoke
Charge cooler leaks and egr cooler leaks are unfortunately common on these engines across the man platform

Warning lights after wiring towbar
Have you drove it since? Looks like what you usually get from disconnecting the battery. May need to drive a short distance and go full lock to full lock on the steering to clear

Burning smell, burned heater cable
Fair enough. Thought it was maybe the aux heater. Not sure what else is drawing current down there https://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php?threads/burning-smell-from-heat.513304/

Burning smell, burned heater cable
Do you have the auxiliary heater?

coolant expansion bottle
Have a bit of a google at heater matrix blockages on these engines, also charge cooler and egr cooler leaks. More likely one of those causing issues than one of those pipes

CUPA engine rebuild crankshaft and balance shafts
I’ve a notion the cupa engine doesn’t have balance shafts. Think I read about it when looking at dpf deletes on dark side developments website

Coolant Leak and Start-up Issue
Yes, the charge cooler sits atop the engine and when it leaks it can leak down into the cylinders over time causing hydrolock. These charge coolers are known to leak unfortunately. not sure why the radiator would have been changed though before. There’s also a bit of a funny start up on these engines, something to do with the vvt solenoid and it sometimes takes a bit longer to turn over. Was your starter motor actually faulty at all?

Starting Problems
Could be diesel bug

My car just dropped a piece I dont know what it does
Yep that’s off the heater flap as you can see. They sometimes jam which has maybe forced it out. Very awkward to push back on but can be done with some perseverance. The longer tooth on the cog needs to align with a longer slot on the motor itself to ensure it’s setup properly

VRS 245 estate Handbrake adjustment
Had similar, seemed to be the return spring on the mechanism was very dirty and a bit seized up on the calliper . Bit of a clean and some wd40 sorted it

Which break pads brand are good ?
I’ve found trw to be the best having tried pagid, Bosch and brembo on the Octavia. Pagids delaminated and the brembos knocked about in the Caliper

Octavia Rear Caliper Carrier
sorry to tell you this, but the Vrs is in that other 10%

The most mysterious and expensive problem ever created by Skoda (turbo question).
Using coolant could be either Egr cooler, charge cooler, head gasket or blocked matrix. Are you getting steam out the exhaust? Is there any coolant residue around the reservoir from it overflowing? If there’s a new turbo then the oil consumption must be elsewhere, so can rule turbo out. A scanner isn’t going to show you why you are using coolant. It needs a decent mechanic. Pressure tests often don’t pick up on internal coolant leaks as they aren’t big enough and also sometimes only apparent when at operating temperatures.

Intake manifold compatibility 2.0tdi
If it’s just a top up and they don’t fully drain it, a couple of litres should be plenty. Think the full coolant system holds around 10 litres

Expansion bottle replacement
Nope not likely to throw a fault on the dash unfortunately. Keep an eye out for the vents not blowing hot air too, this is also a symptom of a blocked matrix or air locks entering the cooling system
-
Expansion bottle replacement
Keep an eye out for coolant residue under the tank and around the over flow (the tube on the side) also keep an eye out for steam out the exhaust. Might help narrow things done. faulty egr cooler or charge cooler (if diesel) is more likely than head gasket. May also be a blocked heater matrix, have a google for more info

Another Coolant Loss Thread.
Egr coolers and charge coolers also fail on these which can introduce air and air locks into the matrix aswell. Hard to track down internal coolant leaks, but the matrix is probably an easy one to replace and rule out.
