  1. Have been driving it a bit more (on private roads), still rough on light throttle but runs fine once you're putting the pedal down. Got it up to 70 even and it felt really solid, Handles pretty decent too although I suspect some bushes will turn to dust once it starts getting driven regularly.
  2. Still waiting on my big order to come, but in the meantime I got these lamps, intending to put them behind the blanks for the foglamps. Thought they'd be too big but looks like they'll be a perfect fit. My reasoning for putting them behind the blanks is so that I can put the blanks over them when I'm not using them, keeping the "original" look. Sort of how I did the spots on the Monte but this time completely hiding them.
  3. Did a job on the intercooler to make it sit tighter. And changed the spot lamps hopefully for the last time. 7 inch halogen lamps this time Very very tight fit. But they do fit. Will be changing the main lights back to halogen soon. LED bulbs were not the silver bullet for improving lighting I was led to believe
  4. I've been looking around breakers yards for an undertray for mine and not one has one available here. I still have mine but its broken in places. New genuine are still available for around 90 euro so worst case you can still get them. Spurious ones on ebay would be cheaper still. It's a bit of plastic so not much to go wrong. I have been able to make a standard undertray work on my car (which also has a larger intercooler) by making a piece of wood to bridge the gap between the front of the undertray and the bumper. Hoping to get a new undertray (or one in better shape) to use to do a proper job on.
  5. Looks like they changed the design a bit since I bought mine. Mine doesn't have the purple ring in the centre
  6. Stevie wonder could do it. 5 minute job tops. Only thing that might be annoying is the vacuum lines being a bit annoying to get off. They should slide off but you might need something to wedge between the pipe and the bit on the n75 itself. Should loosen it up enough to come off.
  7. Went and got a timing light since I figure I'll need it for this at some point. New air filter put on, old one was rotten Have a big order of stuff for this coming in the next week or so. Seems to be clearing itself out a little bit more. Might have a thermostat stuck open as It takes a while to heat up while idling and the temp goes off the bottom of the gauge once you start driving and air gets through the radiator. The closer to operating temp it gets the better it runs at part throttle.
  8. There's one of these being broken over in Ennis, might get the intake manifold off it incase I ""need"" to put a weber on. Seemingly the hitachi carb on this is a complex ******, so putting a weber in its place will simplify things a lot and (from looking at old forums) give a fair bit more power than the standard carb. Could always go really mental and put three 40mm Mikuni carbs on it, like what subaru America did to their bonneville speed record justy. That's a FWD 1l justy there, apparantly they squeezed 120hp out of it, naturally aspirated I might add.
  9. As am I, astounded how well the paint came up Showed it to someone this evening and they thought It was repainted, wouldn't believe such old paint could come up that well. I Absolutely love this thing. I'll be ordering more odds and ends for it and hopefully I'll be able to track down a rebuild kit for that carb. It'll probably clear itself out with some more driving, but if I can get a kit I'll take it apart and clean it properly.
  10. More Piccies Needed to take it to put petrol in, have sussed the fuel float is stuck, will probably free itself up with some driving me thinks. On advice from a friend I raised the idle, it tried to idle just around 500rpm before, raised to 1000 now. Slow as anything and I did need to hold the choke a fair bit to get it to smooth out, but it is running, driving and amazingly, extremely comfortable.
  11. My 2012 has the same mechanism as the first one if that's any addition.
  12. This is the more or less finished product. Its pitch black outside but hopefully I'll get some pics in the morning. Cleaned up well, thick layer of film came off the inside glass. I waxed the outside of the glass as I find it improves visibility massively in the wet. I've yet to have a problem doing it to any car I've owned. Some religious bits in the car still from the previous owner. I took them out, cleaned them and put them right back in. Didn't feel right to remove them.
  13. Everyone seems mad for me to get the wheels done but I'm not in a rush. I'm not necessarily trying to make this look new, just trying to freshen it up to enjoy. Don't really mind the scruffy wheels on this if I'm honest. Might do them or have them done at some point but it's not a priority. Almost definitely needs one. Every time you drive iti, it's clearing up more and more. Presumably old fuel still in the system and gumming everything up isn't helping either.
  14. Too many photos to put in one post but I've finished polishing the paint, wasn't glazed or waxed in that photo, so might come out a bit glossier when I'm actually finished. And I used trim restore on the bumpers, Didn't get a good before/after shot like I did the bonnet, so I did one on the boot trim. Took the plates off for probably the first time, as evidenced by the imprint of the numbers behind them. Not sure whether I'll keep the old plates or maybe get new metal ones. Might put a jap/square plate on the front as it seems one might fit it better than the original one
  15. New spark plugs put in, they made a noticeable difference. Revs a lot more freely now, still a bit stumbly under 2000 rpm when you're driving it however. Clears up above that. Sounds quite nice with an open intake. Only Like this because the air filter I ordered has still not arrived. Got the wheels off it to get tyres on. Pretty good shape underneath considering. And you can see why I needed new tyres. All of them were like this And one was like this Got some ditchfinders fitted for 50 euro a corner. All the driving this will see, they should be fine.
  16. Cracking away at it while I get stuff sorted with the mk1(s) Still haven't gotten a logbook for the vrs so just gonna put it aside for the moment.
  17. Not much done to this, done quite a lot of driving and I've had/have a few other projects to take care of too. Picked up these 2 things recently. Snap Seal and naviwax. Tested it out on this and got great results. Have had a bit of bad luck since, gust of wind knocked a roadsign down onto the bonnet. Left a decent dent but no paint work needed seemingly. Should be sorted next week hopefully. Lastly wired the DRLs to come on with the sidelights, finally. Very easy to do, used my own wiring with a relay, signal from the sidelights and a wire from the relay to one of the drls. For some reason once you get power to one, it sends power to both DRLs. Pic of what no lights looks like And just the DRLs on their own. These can still be switched on and off as skoda intended too. Helps light up the sides of the roads and all it cost me was the price of a relay. Should have done it years ago.
  18. Jacked it up on one corner to get as much as I could out. Fresh fuel and New filter in Ran for a bit and looks like it's running clear fuel through the filter. Couldn't get every drop out but as much as I could. Ordered spark plugs which should be here tomorrow. Seemingly a place not too far from me does 145/12 tyres for 50 a corner. Should be OK for the driving this will see.
  19. Just turned 30 too, registered 1st of October 1992. I'm really pleased to have got it especially considering it can still move under its own steam even after all this time lying up. You're right and I was completely wrong, took off the cover and it's got a rather old looking belt so it will need changing. Seemingly it's non interference atleast, and a very easy job to DIY. Anyhow, did a bit to it today, Firstly a pic of the "new" backbox I took it out and gave it it's first wash in ages, bit grimy but not bad at all With that done I took the plugs out for a look. I can't tell much from them other than they're old. Will get new ones. Gave the carb a few hits of carb cleaner, did clean off some Gunk but not all of it Dropped the fuel filter to change it New one looks slightly different but should work fine. Old filter seems to have caught some Rust from the tank. Seemingly no bung on the tank so draining the old fuel through the feed to the filter. Which will take a while. Easy access atleast, this sits high enough that I didn't need to lift the car at all to get at it. As a last thing I tried buffing half the bonnet to see how it would come up. Looks like it'll come up well.
  20. I *think* it's chain driven Will check tomorrow
  21. Funny thing, the choke on this will ""cancel"" itself once the engine starts to warm up According to the owners manual, that feature is exclusive to UK spec cars (including ireland)
  22. You laugh but there was a record setting justy that was 1l and fwd, albeit pretty highly modified from that. https://www.autoweek.com/news/a2107096/1988-1989-subaru-justy-lsr-salted-scooby/ I bought this car to enjoy, not abuse like my fabias. But, If nothing else this car is the lightest version of a justy by far. If I wanted to I think I could coax a few more ponies out of this fairly easily.
  23. Figures, strange for me to see it though. That does help me somewhat in narrowing down what tyres to get, so thank you! The majority of my experience working on cars has been through diesel fabias so this will certainly be a learning experience!
  24. Worse! It's a 1l Carbureted FWD SL model. It is an absolute basic basic model, was bought new from my work in 1992. It's not one of the cool 4wd ones but I don't really care either. The first owner passed away and it sat in the garage until recently. Was going to be scrapped but I thought that would be an absolute shame, so I bought it.
