Get a Seat Sport style one if you're so keen on an intercooler. It's a proper pig to fit proper but it'd be the best bang for buck. Ebay or wherever will sell knock offs. An intercooler is an intercooler, darkside is seat sport style iirc but with some brackets welded on. My 2 cents is that your standard intercoolers probably got some leaky pipes at the age of it, and being a plastic intercooler could well be leaking a bit already.

DieselMontes BarnFind Subaru Justy
New carb kit is finally delivered I just need to pick it up. Came all the way from Canada. Was not cheap so I ****ing hope its correct and not ripped. Anyway, was waiting for paint to dry so tinkered on this for a bit. Wirewheeled the brakes front and rear And gave em a lick of hammerite silver. Pointless since they're stuck behind 12 inch steelies but I'll know. Also had some spacers doing nothing so threw them on the rear. 5mm a side. I don't really want to tackle these wheels by myself with the surface rust. Don't think I can make them look "like new". So for now they can look original. May send them off to a professional somewhere down the line. And maybe buy some new wheel nuts. Also refitted the fuel filter assembly back on. Hopefully be running like a champ very soon.

Diesel Monte's 2001 Skoda Fabia "Project vRSDI"
Well just about given up on swapping the firewalls over. After breaking lots of tools and barely making a dent in it that is. I'm now intent on just making a hole in the one in the sdi. Put some dubshed stickers to good use. Good for hiding windscreen cracks. Cleaned up the subframe and Arb off the vrs, they were rough. Coated them in Kurust and then some hammered black same as before. Noticed one of the arb collars are missing, I'll just find something to wrap around it for now. Lot better than the scratched up, rusty subframe it was a few hours before. Using this subframe as it still has the dogbone nut intact. Had some hammerite left so wirewheeled and Cleaned off the knuckles and painted them in situ. Bit more presentable. Cleaned up the bores where the shocks go into and coated them in copper grease. They were a bit rusty inside but Cleaned up well. Went to paint the carriers and found out my tub of pantone 348 had gone off, so sulked and painted them silver instead.

Removing body sealer from the Firewall.
Good afternoon everyone. I'm in the midst of reshelling my vrs into my sdi and decided to swap the firewalls over, as the vrs one has the hole for Aircon and I'm intent on swapping EVERYTHING over. It's held in by 6-7 13mm bolts which I have removed, however it's also held in with some of the strongest seam sealer I've seen. I've tried heat, which didn't do much. Used cutting wheels which just destroyed them and made enough smoke that I'm glad there isn't a smoke detector in the shed. Used a Stanley knife to try cut away at it bit by bit which did nothing but destroy the blades. And even went so far as to try wedge a chisel in between the firewall and the chassis which only served to break the chisel. Surely someone's encountered something like this before and can give me some help? All else fails I'll drill the required hole in this firewall and do it that way. Thanks.

Stripped away at the vrs subframe, drivers console came out like butter, passengers side though... It did not want to play ball. And in typical fabia fashion, the bolts snapped. Atleast it snapped in a way I could separated it from the subframe. Ill reuse the vrs subframe as it still has the nut for the dogbone welded on, and the drivers console too. I'll use the sdis passengers console and just cut a notch in it for the 6 speed. So may as well use the PSB consoles now for the sake of it. And left some stuff to soak in vinegar for the last day or two. Took the carriers out and got to work on them. Now sitting primed ready for paint. The bolts for the Heatshields on the vrs hubs are very corroded so not sure how I'll get them out. May end up running no heatshields in the end, not ideal. Engine bay and inside is stripped bare so taking on removing the seam sealer from the bulkhead. It's not coming out easy. Will take a long time to chip away at it enough to remove the bulkhead.

DieselMonte's 2012 Monte Carlo Project.
Plenty done this weekend Drivers side splash guard has been changed. And 2 new Meyle Balljoints put on. Only the drivers needed replacing but they're cheap and easy to do so did both. Done in 40 minutes. The drivers side one was BAD and it was only on 6 months. Was mentioned by the nct tester when it was tested last month, and it had just started knocking then. Should not have passed like that imo. The passengers side was absolutely fine. And FINALLY, I've got my hands on a Garrett GTC1549VZ, a CR170 turbo. Looks to have been recently rebuilt, the core looks very fresh. Might still be worth dropping it off at someone who knows what they're looking at, just to be sure its been rebuilt right. Had been looking at a hybridised XMan version but the person selling that wouldn't post it, unfortunate. And I took it to Dubshed too, If youre up before 11 you can get into the show and shine outside. I was put out in the nosebleeds. Only found out they have a car wash on site once I was up there, I'll know for next year. Bit funny trying to explain to people that its not a vrs but a 1.6 diesel and that no, I didn't put that bodykit on it's standard. Was a great day anyway. May have found someone there who can map in this new turbo when it goes on. So on top of juggling the vrsdi, the justy and even just maintaining this, I'm going to try have that turbo on before June. And there's work to be done before that, Even though it was serviced in December it'll be due another service in about a month. Timing belts due so that'll be done then also. And I'll definitely be needing another 2 tyres before June. Much to do, no money to do it. What's new.

Brake pads and discs?
First is one for your vrs no hook Second is the ate ones You've already been sorted but this might help someone in the future
-
Brake pads and discs?
He does Ate calipers and therefore pads are used on mk2 fabia vrs and most montes. Conveniently vw also use the same ate caliper and pads for the 312mm setup.

Wiring loom is fully out of the vrs now Came across another obstacle in that the bulkhead is different, it doesn't have the hole for ac. Seems like it's removable so I'll swap it over at some point. Just more work. Also got a new return line And 312mm carriers So of course I've started stripping down the brakes. Plenty of life left in them clearly.

Monte Carlo 2014 - tyres
Not me jealous. UK has a much easier time getting insurance than us in Ireland. Almost every insurer won't quote a car over 20 year old, some even as low as 14 year old. The justy is a pita to get insurance for as classic insurance won't cover anyone under 25. And won't cover any subaru. In their eyes my 50hp justy is as dangerous as an sti. Farce

Almost everything out. Only thing that needs to come out is the wiring for the dome light. Pile of parts grows bigger again

Monte Carlo 2014 - tyres
Didnt know that about irish spec ones. I've seen a white one like mine at work, original irish one now with Trinity's. Mines a UK one. Very strange The 16s would have been far better suited for our roads although in fairness I've yet to bend or damage one of my rims on our potholes. Popped a tyre once but the wheel was absolutely fine.

Monte Carlo 2014 - tyres
I spy some toledo tyres I'd be getting them off ASAP. Video very much related. And I was going 10 under the limit, 40 in a 50 As toot says those are gigaros, fabia vrs wheels. Didn't know some montes had them fitted. Presumed all uk ones got Trinity's like these.

I well believe it, it would explain the different wiring. Whether that's attached to the top or its fitted to the tank I've no clue. Would be very stupid if it wasn't just attached to the tank. I'm hoping whatever happens I can reuse the fuel lines on the sdi. The vrs has a very rough looking fuel cooler, and the way its positioned is just asking for something to shoot up and bust it. I intend on repurposing the black trim and headlining into the sdi. Funny enough I bought some black dye to dye all of the carpets and such. It's good stuff but very strong. Will probably still use it to make everything a slightly darker black. I think it'll look great in my car with the sport (bohemia(?)) seats and door cards I already have. Tell you what though, I've noticed more and more bits of extra sound deadening on the vrs compared to the sdi. It all looks factory. Whether it's a spec thing or a year thing I don't know.

Diesel Monte's 2001 Skoda Fabia "Project vRSDI"
Dash and carpets are now out of the vrs Noticed the wiring on the fuel pumps are different. Might be able to just swap the tops but might swap the entire tank, not sure. Kind of crazy how dirty the sdi is inside as a result of being a farm car for so long.

Monte Carlo 2014 - tyres
As said before a mk2 monte will have 17s. 205/40 is standard size but if you keep those I'd highly recommend putting 215/40 or 205/45 tyres on, extra sidewall makes a massive difference. They're still pretty harsh though. You can go as small as a 15 inch wheel, the 1.2 htp ones and lower spec tsi ones can go with 14 inch wheels due to the smaller brakes. Be worth dropping down a size for the sake of comfort. I run 16 inch wheels in mine over winter with 195/50 tyres, noticeably softens the ride. On those tyres they have basically the same size as the 17 inch wheels so the speedometer reading is not effected.

Semi-catastrophic rear axle / shock failure
Mk4 golfs which use a similar beam are starting to suffer from the beams snapping now too. As these cars are getting older it makes sense the same issues will be cropping up on these. Fwiw you could definitely find a complete beam cheaper off someone breaking one privately. Use the money saved to put new bushes in it and give it some Rust treatment and paint. I wouldn't bother welding that and just replace. You should be able to use one from upto a 2014 fabia and any of the sister cars.

1.3 MPI (175 miles to a tank)
E10 will noticeably drop fuel economy over e5 or e0. For the sake of testing it may be worth dumping some fuel system cleaner down it and running on some "premium" petrol with less ethanol.

What's seeing off all the Fabias?
I'm sure you've seen the gob****e who wrote off his yellow vrs into a lamp post just after having a load of work done to it. Killed it. I've noticed a load of people breaking cars with any sort of spec because it's worth more than selling it whole. I realise I'm the pot calling the kettle black since I'm stripping my vrs at the minute but that's because that cars rotten and I'm repurposing the drive train into my sdi.

What's seeing off all the Fabias?
A life of being washed with pure tfr and a brush, because that's what 99% of people think taking care of their car is. Skodas in general have harder wearing paint than (generally speaking) most other brands. Seen a 2018 isuzu today with now matte metallic red paint from brush washing. Same can be said for literally every mazda I've seen even newer ones.
