Diesel Monte's 2001 Skoda Fabia "Project vRSDI"
This one's got the black headlining Was looking through the reams of service history and its had a lot of money spent on it through the years. Unfortunately no invoices or anything on the mods that were done. Was hoping to atleast see a dyno printout or something.

Turbo is back. Thought it would come with gaskets (for the price of it) but nope, ordered what I need and they'll be here Tuesday. Have this bundle of stuff too, oil and filters. Pushed it off the pit to check out a few things on the Monte. Not much more I can do until I get the gaskets.

Are they not all black? This looks the same colour as my sdi just this carpet has the clips to hold in the vrs floor mats. The ones in it were/are feral especially the drivers one so probably won't put em back in.

Bit of cleaning of the absolutely manky inside of it. The centre console and glovebox were full of spilled scuzz. Have only put the drivers seat back in it at the minute. Turbo is done should be back tomorrow.

Keeping busy while waiting for the turbo to come back. First, pics of the wing and parcel shelf. Not one with netting unfortunately. Cleaned out the intercooler and piping to get all the dead turbo out Lots and lots of oil Everything's sitting drying now. Cleaned the intake manifold best I could. Lastly gave the front calipers a wire brush and paint. Rears need doing too.

Didn't take that close of a look at it. Looked like any other parcel shelf to me. Why are ones with netting rare?

Maybe you can't see it in the photo but it looks to me like it's bubbling along where the glass meets the a pillar. Which would be a **** to sort properly imo. I don't really want to half ass fixing that car to get it to pass an mot only to have it all show up again a few months later Definitely intend on getting the vrs going properly before I decide what to do with it. I wouldn't say I have big plans but I want to ""build"" a mk1 that will last, I think these cars are too old to be messing about half fixing things.

Some photos of the rust on this It's just the angle of the photo that's making the jack look wonky don't worry.

Turbo is out! Much easier than I thought it would be. I used a guide on here to help me See how bad the turbine on the cold side is? It gets worse, the exhaust side doesn't seem too bad for whatever reason. Atleast I now know the model of it Its a garrett GT1749VB. From what I gather its what's fitted to ARL PD150 engines. Was told it was a hybrid turbo, can't really see anything special on it that makes it one. Going to try have this reconditioned but don't have terribly high hopes seeing this. I'll ring a few places tomorrow anyway.

Spot on mate! The prefacelift lights were the giveaway for me, pretty sure the earlier ones have an asz engine. Curious which 6 speed this one has as I know there were 2 different ratios of boxes for these.

Forgot all about the arch liners! Yeah I'll definitely need to check them out, it has a Blackpool council parking disc on it so it's been by the seaside for some of its life. I appreciate you holding onto that bar for me Have the feeling this one will be quite crusty

Wheels up to check out the coilovers, hoped they would be free enough to adjust up, no luck. They're the same coilovers as what's on the mk1 already, FK ones. But these are quite a bit rougher and set far too low for me. Exhaust has slipped out can see the pool of oil out the exhaust. It's a bit rough underneath, the plastic cladding is broken in a few spots from the car being too low. Put penetrative oil on the collars just to spin them up a bit. I probably won't use these. The droplinks on this are fubar. Took the bumper off to have a look see. There is no crashbar thanks to the front mount, think an ibiza crash bar is the one to get for these (?) Took all the intercooler piping off and it is flooded with oil, so the turbo is absolutely ****ed. Saying that, it's not grenaded and sent shrapnel into the engine, I think it might be able to be reconditioned because it just seems like seals are gone in it. Looking up around the turbo shows a lot of oil. Sort of aside from this but I'll include it on the same post, some photos of the slam panel I painted compared to the one on this car I'm torn between doing this up and reshelling it into the mk1. This shell is quite rusty. Sills, rear quarters, A pillars and the roof are showing rust through. The A pillar is the one that worries me the most as I know that is quite a structural part of the car especially in a smash. I'll get photos of it next day. I think it can be fixed, but it would be an awful lot of work to do it right and you'd probably be spraying the whole car at that point. The sdi has the hit at the front but it is rust free. I'd have to have it sent off to get the chassis pulled proper though. Then there's the issue of tax, I'd be easily over 5000 euro importing that vrs, I payed 500 for it. Could just not import it but I do not want the hassle of worrying about customs, they're always around my area. I plan on either refurbing this turbo or getting another hybrid, and putting it in this car to make sure it all works properly. If it all works well then I might just plop that drive train into the sdi. Would be cool to have a cayenne metallic "vrs".

Diesel Monte's 2001 Skoda Fabia "Project vRSDI"
First off, Holy ****. Now that's out of the way, I've bought this lovely vRS today. Still even has MOT for a few days. Bullet points: -216k miles -A hybrid turbo that's blown -Egr delete -Decat -Pop and bang limiter (wonder why it blew) -2 ecus, a standard pd130 ecu and the 230hp one in it now -Coilovers -Decent Service history and a wad of reciepts -2 keys etc etc. Went up not expecting much, battery was stone dead but started from a jump start. Engine fired over very easy, engine itself sounds fine. Drove it onto the trailer even. Got it home and washed it, wasn't bad even though it sat outside for 3 months after the turbo went. Can't drive it for long but it does drive perfect all things considered. Whatever wheels are on it, they sit very wide on the car, no spacers here. They have vw caps on them and the guy I got it off reckons they are vw wheels but I don't think they are. If anyone knows what they are I'd love to know. Ream of paperwork with it. Set to work removing the seats and such, its pretty dirty inside and the front seats are quite worn. The doorcards are quite rough too. Happily I have sport seats and matching doorcards already. Came with a full-size spare too, took it out. More coming

Power Steering Suddenly Feels Light
Should add, I noticed this 2 days ago, no obvious extra noises to indicate something is about to fall off either.

Power Steering Suddenly Feels Light
Bit of a weird one for you all and I'm pretty lost over it. I set the steering in my 2012 Monte to the "sporty" (their words) setting on vcds a while ago. Combined with that, bigger brakes and castor increase bushes meant the steering felt much heavier and gave a lot more feel than what it was like standard. However, for some reason the steering seems to have turned itself back to one of the lighter settings, the steering is much lighter and there isn't as much feedback from the wheel. It seems to handle about the same as before, just the steering is now incredibly light. I check vcds and it is still claiming to be on the setting I set it to, changed it to a couple of different settings and no difference. I realise this is the kind of stupid problem that only I could have, but I'd appreciate any guidance of what I should do next.

What is supposed to be here? (see picture)
Be warned you need the little clips that go into the trim panel too Skoda dealer can probably source them still

Both Suspension arms failed MOT
I payed £52 for 2 new Wishbones with bushes and ball joints on ebay not too long ago. Checked in a motorfactors before I did and they were a bit more but not a lot. Didn't mind getting cheap ones as I was putting my own rear bush in anyway. It's not a hard job, if you can't do It yourself it shouldn't cost much for a mechanic to do especially if they keep the ball joints on the knuckle

DieselMonte's 2012 Monte Carlo Project.
It wasn't hard to do at all and It is worth it to do. There's very little sound deadening on these anyway so any bit helps. Even the little bit I did made a difference.

Rear seat pull catch broken
Good point actually. Having redone a pair of front mk1 seats They are a bit of a pig to strip down. Hogrings suck. Maybe you can just take the back panel off the seats to swap the handle?

Left Foot Brake override possible?
I managed it in my mk1 by disabling (read pulling out) the brake light switch fuse. Works but leaves the glow plug light flashing. Iirc you can snip and join two wires on the connection to the brake light switch and that works without triggering the glow plug light. Left foot braking is very useful, definately in that car. Bit of a shame the mk2 won't let me do it the same way, would be handy with it being turbocharged.
