  1. Sounds like 🐃💩 to just knock you down again. I've heard good and bad about Motorway and every time I read something like this it makes me wary of using them. If you were a prospective buyer of one of their cars and said "Those tyres are 7 years old and need replacing" I'm sure you'd get a different story from them. 🤔
  2. Trust your instincts. You can easily check a car's MOT history online and after that you would expect a prospective buyer to come round for a look. If they live a long distance then you could do a video call with them to show the cars condition prior to them coming in person. And anyone offering the full price sight unseen would certainly throw up a red flag for me. 😬
  3. Why the past tense? Don't you continue to love this forum? 😉
  4. Maybe use a plastic trim removal tool with a soft cloth undereath it before using a heatgun to melt the backing adhesive from the emblem. Something like these ......
  5. Tell 'em they're wrong. In the UK "Comms" is short for Communications (just like we pronounce Skoda as "Skoda" and not "Shkoda"and Ikea as "eye-Kea" and not "ii-kea"). 😉 Bloody foreigners mucking about with our languge ..... 🙄
  6. Not so. ( I realise this is an old thread and I'm late to the party). Prior to my current 2011 Octavia which has Convenience opening windows (just today I learned that this is the correct phrase) my previous 2009 Citroen Picasso also had this feature. In my naivete I assumed this function was on all cars so I bet my sister £10 that she had it on her 2020 Kia Sportage without realising it. I'm £10 down. ☹️ We also tried it on her husband's 2017 Focus. It's not there either. Every day's a school day .........
  7. Blimey! Apologies for dredging this topic up (sometimes I just wander along the dusty and less travelled corridors of Briskoda) but I thought I'd throw my 2p's worth of info in. I passed my IAM test way back in 2005 and even became an observer for my local group for a few years before life took me in a different direction. Last year I cogitated about rejoining and contacted the group for a check drive. Happily the observer only picked me up on minor issues (well, they have to say something, don't they! 😉) and stated that my skills had not really deteriorated since I passed my test. We all think we are the World's best driver but it's sometimes nice to get someone else's opinion. p.s. I don't think I'm the World's best driver but I am damn sure I have more driving and situational awareness on the road than 90% of the numpties behind a wheel these days ..... p.p.s. I also passed my ROSPA Motorcycling test at Gold Standard a few years later. But I'm not the World's best motorcyclist either. Still alive though (as of posting on this thread, well, you never know ....)
  8. I had similar issues, Satnav showing car position approx. 1 mile to left of actual position. I bought a cheapy GPS antenna and installed it, fixing the "antenna" to top left windscreen and running the cable to the back of the head unit, replacing the original cable. No problems since. I was told that moisture was the reason it was going bonkers (it had supposedly entered the original "Sharks Fin" antenna on the rear of the roof). Numerous applications of WD40 made no difference so I splashed out a tenner on a replacement gps Antenna. No issues since. Might be worth looking at for a cheap fix (or at least to discard one possible reason for failure). 😉
  9. MOT time is nerve wracking. Similar to being in the waiting room awaiting news of your first born. That anticipation and worry never changes ...... 🥺
  10. Gawd bless the Octavia. Mine is a 2011 model with 49,000 miles on the clock and I regularly get over 50 MPG on a run and about 45 MPG around town. Every time the press publish a list of most "nickable", most "unreliable" cars etc. I am heartened to see no mention of the Octavia. Let's keep flying under the radar folks !! 🙂
  11. Another vote for VCDS from me. Not the cheapest but the support from the makers is second to none and their website is chock full of helpful and knowledgable people (and is managed by the makers themselves). https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php
  12. A replacement "4 gang windows switch" can be had on ebay for under a tenner. The cover is simply held on by clips. Dead easy to install and at least you will have eliminated the switches. 🙂
  13. Also check if any of your brakes are dragging. Touch the disks (gingerly) after a few miles and any that are hotter than normal may be worth investigating. 👍
  14. I have used START for the last three years covering my Skoda plus my Motorcycle. Used them twice (for Motorcycle) and had to wait about an hour (although there aren't so many motorcycle recovery options as there are for cars) and have been really pleased with their service. Annual cost (including recovery and Homestart) was about £120 this year.
  15. Was it a genuine SKODA part? I replaced mine with a (I think) cheaper copy part and it acts erratically. If I wipe the rear screen I have to immediately switch it off or it refuses to work for a few hours. 😒 Must be something dodgy in the electrics( /PCB). If yours was replaced by a genuine SKODA part by an official dealer then go back to the installer. If not then I think the saying "Buy cheap buy twice" will apply.,
  16. I had a similar problem a while back. I eventually found that water had infiltrated the ariel and was showing the car as about half a mile to the right of its actual position. Solution was to buy another GPS ariel, whip out the radio, wire in the new ariel and stick it top left of the screen It cost about a tenner off ebay. I'm not saying this is your issue but at least you have something to start looking at ..... 👍
  17. I'm on just over 28,000 miles. Git a while to catch you up. 😄
  18. Dunno. It was included in the pack so I fitted it when I installed the rear/Front Dash Cams. Does it work? I'd have to remove it to find out and there's no point. Kinda like having my 3 Covid Jabs. Do they work? Dunno. Not caught Covid so not gonna "uninstall 'em" (not sure how I would do that) to prove a point. 😁
  19. Sofo replied to eton@30900's topic in Skoda Karoq
    Boeuf a la mode !! 😉
  20. Ferrite Cores are supplied with Nextbase (at least they were with my 522GW) and this is definitely not the cheaper end of the market re: Dashcams.
  21. Sofo replied to eton@30900's topic in Skoda Karoq
Nextbase 522GW front and rear camera for me too. Only issue has been the power connector (at the mount) sometimes "backs off" maybe due to long term vibration which makes me think the whole system has gone Tits Up. However, just push the connector back in and it's all Kushti. Definitely worth it in terms of playback quality.
  22. Just expect it. People will muck you about and although you want to be helpful, eventually you will harden up and state things like "Come at 17:00 to view it" etc. (but never alter any personal plans for them). Dealers are the worst particularly when they pretend not to be. Last time I sold a car I was so hacked off with the numpties that I was staying just the right side (and only just the right side) of civil to any prospective buyer. First warning sign off them and it was "You're mucking me about, go away!".
  23. I looked at loads of Dashcams before plumping for Nextbase as 99% of vids uploaded to youtube etc. of dashcam footage were from Nextbase (and the quality impressed me). If I was out of warranty in your situation I'd be looking at Nextbase again. No sense in cutting off your nose to spite your face.
  24. Guys, Any update to this issue? I have this on my 2011 Octavia and the noise is getting more noticeable. I'm worried that: A: If it's electrical then something will short out at the worst possible time and leave me with no ventilation (fogged windows etc.). B: It''s mechanical then something will break at the worst possible time and leave me with no ventilation (fogged windows etc.). I tried the reset method mentioned in this post to no avail. My VCDS reports no issues, both when cold (no noise) and when warmed up (ticking like Billy-o). Only happens at tickover (a quick blip of the throttle removes the noise temporarily till the revs die down).
