There is a section below the rocker panels covering the sills. I assume this ISN'T the rocker panel, maybe it is?. It's metal and has contoured like paint. It's rusted on my car I'm wondering how I fix it, if it wasn't contoured (rippled) then just scrape off rust, prime and paint. But do I need to replace these ripples? Not the best photos but you should get the idea.

I get between 37-41mpg for an octavia II 2008 saloon, that's sounds a bit low to me, tires are at 35psi, although tires do seem to lose pressure pretty fast, either some crack or bad valves.

Has anyone tried to improve mpg by tweaking ECU settings such as fuel / air ratio or other settings? If so what were your results?

I think you can add UV dye to the engine allowing you to see oil leaks much easier.

Test battery with multimeter.

Do you need to remove the bumper to remove the under tray which seems to be one section with the arch liners at each end or does this section just remove as one piece separate from the bumper?

Would I need to remove the trim around the release handle first?

For some reason the bonnet has decided bro not open. I've searched and it seems one way is to take the os wheel and wheel arch liner off and then kind of grab the cable from underneath. Is this the only/best way?

I don't think it's an MOT fail but they are there for a reason so better on than not. A car manufacturer is not going to waste any money on unnecessary parts. They will protect the discs from getting scuffed/pitted.

Usually debris(change the fuel filter if not been changed accordingly) or the O ring seal has worn. Generally speaking your adviced to replace them all.

It does look off as all the parts are on the same area. Your best bet is to find another mechanic to price it up even if you have to give him a few quid to do it. Then take this info back to the garage if it is way off and negotiate, don't complain but negotiate. I would look on eBay.

Find out where they get there parts and check, it may be eurocarparts or some other parts place in town.

I didn't read your blog but if you didn't your just as well replacing the hub that has a bearing installed it's not much more expensive and you don't need to remove and Install the bearing.

Yep a bit of work and more if you have a DSG gearbox. Hard to price it. 4-6 hours work I guess.

Is it a DSG clutch? Could be a few things, the release bearing, a bearing in the gearbox etc. What kind of noise are you able to record the noise on your phone?

Discs come with an oil coating to prevent rust. You should wipe this off with brake cleaner or soapy water.

A set of calipers would be handy.

Check wheel bearing for play a bad bearing can cause this.
