312mm brakes - Pad retaining plate
Disco_Mikey replied to phantomlurker's topic in General Maintenance
I was wondering the same. My pads rattle in the carrier going over bumps. Get really annoying... -
Rattle after fitting 312's...
Disco_Mikey replied to Disco_Mikey's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Im a mechanic anyway, not like it was difficult Checked everything, and it was all tight. Think I have sussed it. THINK its the pads rattling in the carrier... Noise goes away when you brake... Will also be checking that though -
Rattle after fitting 312's...

Not that. Sounded like the caliper/carrier was loose. That kind of rattle, but checked everything, couldnt find anything... -
Rattle after fitting 312's...
Disco_Mikey replied to Disco_Mikey's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I did think of that, but the discs are held on by the wheels anyway. -
Fitted these this morning, went for a quick spin. Can hear a mettalic rattle from the front end some place... Carrier and caliper bolts are all tight, anti rattle spring is OK. Jacked up each wheel and checked everything, all the ball joints etc are OK, wheels nuts are tight, bearings are OK... Anyone else experienced this? On another note though, fitted EBC Redstuff pads with drilled and grooved discs. While currently still bedding in after about 15 miles, when the pads are warm (town driving warm), they squeak a fair bit. Fine once they cool down again, until warm again... Is this a characteristic of ceramic pads, or will they quieten down once they have settled in properly?

Started a new job 2 weeks ago. Told them i had 2 weeks holiday booked and paid for to Turkey in Sept. Said they had to honour them, and that was OK... Was speaking to the missus a few nights, and she asked if I will get paid for those 2 weeks. Some people I spoke to say yes as they have to honour them, some people say no as I havnt worked long enough to be entitled to holidays etc Anyone have a definitive answer? Looked in my contract, and it says nothing about it. Dont want to go to my manager and ask about holiday pay etc after only a few weeks

I succesfully claimed on my anti-corrosion warranty, see here: http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/anti-corrosion-warranty/139701/ Although, funnily enough, Skoda rejected it 1st time round and had to get the dealer to claim again. Was accepted on the 2nd attempt. If you have a good dealer, like I did, they will bend over backwards for you HTH

whistling when fans on 3 and 4
Disco_Mikey replied to ultra_joel88's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
If the pollen filter isnt fitted properly, it whistles a bit. Might be worth checking that -
How many people have declared Cupra console bushes to their insurance company? And would they class that as a modification, despite it being a VAG part?

Brake fluid will be done at the same time -
Coil packs are notoriously **** on them, and only cost about 30-40 quid from Egay. Sometimes wont log a fault code ( speaking from experience here on a C3) Just another thing to check, the washer pipes leak screenwash onto the injectors, and corrode the terminals, which in turn stops them from injecting fuel... EDIT: This one was about 20k also...

Quoted £55 + VAT from TPS through my work... Thats why i didnt even consider them. The cheapest I found them was £120 + delivery... Think i will probably go for Mintex M1155's... -
Ta I thought you only had to trim the bumpstops when fitting springs and dampers (FSD's etc) so i never bothered... Never had a problem with them

Disco_Mikey replied to BRUN's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I noticed very very slightly more road noise when mine were done. Otherwise, you wouldnt be able to tell... -
More to the point. Have you visited the website to compare meerkats yet?

Lowered on Eibachs... Didnt notice that much difference to ride quality. TBH, i thought it was slightly better than stardard...

Will be fitting 312's in the next few weeks, but need brake pads... Discs are drilled and grooved, if it makes a difference... OE pads at £55 + VAT Redstuff pads at £70 inc VAT and delivery Tarox Strada from Awesome GTI - £71 + VAT and delivery (unless there is a forum discount I have missed) Mintex M1155 - £60 delivered Dont want to be paying ridiculous money for a set of pads, but would like something good. Does anyone rate the redstuff pads? Dont want greenstuff though. Heard nothing but bad things...
