  1. Ahh man I’m thinking of soing the same thing after 4-5 years. Winters have almost no snow in the last 10 years. You don’t wonder where to store the other set of tires and you don’t wait for tires change for an hour or two just before the season and few other benefits I’m reading here that Goodyear or either Michelin are the best all season tires. But my wife wants us to learn some winter sports, so not sure how would be the handling in mountains with such tires.
  2. Do the smaller petrol engines have an automatic supplementary heater? I know bigger ones don’t. Most of the VAG diesels have it these days and heat starts to blow after 5 mins. You just need to set the temp to ‘Hi’, deactivate ECON mode and leave the Auto on. Outside temp should also be below 5*C. There should be such feature in modern TSI engines since they are almost as efficient as diesels
  3. My OEM battery was replaced by the stealer under warranty. They replaced Varta 68Ah with Bosch S5 77Ah. Few months later I decided to check was the car recoded after the battery change and it wasn’t. So I made the change myself with VCDS following this guide in RT wiki - http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Battery_Replacement There is also a good video at the end of the page. You need to “tell” the car that there is new battery by changing the serial number, size and vendor. I used the actual S/N of the battery instead of changing 1111111’s to 1111112.. There is no vendor coding for Bosch, but since Varta and Bosch developed S5 and Silver Dynamic together, I used Varta’s symbols - VA0( they even have the same model number ). Do a short research what VCDS adaptations need to be done and write down all the required values - serial number, part number, battery size, vendor, etc and then ask anyone with a cable to do the job.
  4. Hey no offense, but don’t tell me that someone still uses the old metal-style chains requiring much more effort to be placed compared to the plastic ones. Sometimes it’s even painful when the outside temperature is cold. Not to mention that there is no way to teach my wife how to do it... There is no size issue with the plastic ones. And also they require almost no spaces, allowing you to put them beside the spare wheel. Get set of them and forget about it. I’m not saying that the Scout has bad ride, just saying it’s not something special. I do own an old Audi A4 B7 Avant as well, and the ride is much better compared to the Scout. But I think the suspension is more complicated and therefore expensive than the Octavia’s. If you have the extra money and space to park it, go for a Superb for better comfort - there is huge difference between both cars
  5. Not much honestly speaking :/ By its nature the winter tires are softer than the summer ones, but I can’t say it’s much better with 215/60/16 over the 225/50/17. Some say that lower speed rating provides better comfort( H instead of V or W ). But even with 99H it’s not great. It’s a Golf-based platform after all. I put higher tires for winters because the roads in my country aren’t the best, especially when you live somewhere in the suburbs..
  6. My winter tires on Scout 2016 2.0TDI 184ps are 6,5Jx16. The front discs are 312 mm, so as already mentioned, the 16 inch rims are the smallest possible option. I think only the VRS has 340 mm disc, but I can’t tell you for sure. I bought some old rims from Octavia MK2 and put Pirelli Sottozero3 215/60R16 on them. Note that original sizes which you will find next to the fuel filler cap is 205/55R16 and 225/50R17. But the closest diameter and best comfort is with 215/60R16, IMO.
  7. Ok, went to the stealer today. The cap from the old expansion tank with silica bag fits the new tank without the bag. Just be careful not to swap them when the car is hot. The rest is easy One more thing - there is no G13 anymore, it's officially replaced by the G12Evo, so I had to buy 1 liter of it instead.. Do you know what's the difference? - For the same price you got non-concentrated liquid So you have to pay twice for the same coolant amount now.. ( at some point I thought I entered in Audi, not in Skoda )
  8. That's something I'm also wondering as I'm about to pick the replacement tank tomorrow from the stealer. The coolant tanks are sold without the cap, so if the cap from the old one doesn't fit, I'll have to buy a cap as well.
  9. Seems so, but it was found unreliable solution like the previous models, that's why at the very end VW decided to deprecate all the coolant tanks with silica bag and developed a new single walled one without silica solution in it.
  10. Thanks @Blootoon! I'm a bit confused why they put G12evo coolant in his car( p/n G12E050A2 )? Does the G12evo compensate the lack of silica bag in the expansion tank? 2019 Octavias with the new expansion tank from the factory(5Q0121407M) having no silica bag in it, exit with G13. @James@Pentagon_Seat Was so right
  11. Mine squeaks from the suspension bushes(many MQB does) and gets noisier in the winter. I know some dealers put some special grease which last for 6 months or even an year. Or at least that's what they do in Bulgaria.. I would prefer to change them, but AFAIK bushes aren't gone when they start to squeak, just noisier.
  12. Without removing the air filter is really pain in the butt if you haven't done it before. Believe me, just remove that airbox, it's not that hard. Then you'll be able to unscrew that filter with whatever 24 hex you have
  13. I’m watching this because I retrofitted OEM ones, but are definitely brighter than the stock ones on the facelift model.
  14. Mine isn't single walled, so the silica bag can't be accessed easily. That's why I will replace the tank.
  15. +1 remove it if the bag is easily accessible. If it's not change the coolant tank - my care is still under warranty for few more months and I'll replace mine with the new model of the tank without silica bag. I plan to do it myself, it doesn't look that hard.
  16. Thanks. A guy in audi-sport forum also swapped his original reservoir with the same part number(5Q0121407M) and confirms no silica bag in it - https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/problematic-car.421294/page-2#post-3626163 €25 in the nearest skoda stealer.
  17. Do you guys know the exact part number? Stealer have 10x expansion tank models ending with different letter 5Q0121407[A,D,F,G,J,M,P,Q,S,T]? Wondering which one excludes the silica bag in it? I won’t comment the coolant type, because I saw a coolant newer than G13, but named with previous number - G12-Evo... I think this one is only for Hybrid/Electrical vehicles, but I don’t think they know either
  18. Btw have you noticed that those expansion tanks without silica bags have label saying G12 coolant; those with the bag inside are labeled with G13. Is the coolant type related to the existence of such bag or I’m overthinking it?
  19. I decided to remove the silica bag on my car today after seeing the “mit silikat” label on the expansion tank, but unfortunately mine isn’t in the inner reservoir... Wondering is it in the outer one meaning that I have to replace the whole expansion tank, or it was removed by the dealer at some point?
  20. Forgot to say 'thank you' for the video
  21. Had the low key battery warning from few days and decided to change it today. I bought 2032 which is ticker and doesn't stay in place until you put the key cover back on. Maybe I will go with CR 2025 size next time. The original battery was Energizer and the locksmith shop from which I bought the new one had the same brand only. Cost €2.
  22. Hi Guys, I followed this old thread to deactivate my low beams and leave only the DRL strips for CH/LH function. It's a pre-FL O3 2016. The adaptation instructions below works great, but the DRL strips during the CH/LH aren't as bright as when the car is running. Is there anyway I can get the same brightness level of this strips for the CH/LH function like when drive the car? There should be VCDS setting about it I'm using the following adaption from this post( the rest is the default settings ): Thanks in advance!
  23. I guess this is especially true when you have “On Demand” AWD like the Haldex system :)
  24. Another set of studded tires huh? I guess they are needed more than AWD in Scandinavian countries? It was -11 and -7 in the last few nights here and we got some snow, but warmer weather is coming in the next couple of weeks.
  25. That would be overkill
