It was my Dad's second car. His first was a D-reg base spec (Merit?), the rear '1.2' badge from it lives atop my stereo system as an ornament now. I'll post a photo when I'm home. That H-reg SR has quite a story. My Dad sold it around 2002 when he bought an ST185 Celica. It spent around 12 years in a garage about 20 miles away from where I live. It was then bought by a young lad in my village (who has an Octy vRS now) who blew the engine up. It was then bought by my late father's friends from school who fitted a new engine with Weber carbs (like the way my Dad had it) and some other snazzy bits and restored it as best they could. Unfortunately, finances meant that they couldn't keep it and it was sold on eBay with one hell of a bidding war. It's now with a guy in Northamptonshire. Now, are we a wee bit off topic?

Nope. He bought it in 1998 for about £850. It soared in value because it's a 1.4 SR - a clean one too since it received a lot of work to it. This is a photo of it by the new owner.

+1 on the Golf being a "chavmobile", same with the Bora in my neck of the woods. I know of one modified vRS and honestly it's not too bad. Seat Ibiza seems to get a hell of a time here too. Everything else is just standard 1.4 TDIs (a black one down the street), 1.9 TDIs (a beige one up the street) and my wee red 1.2 in the middle.

Better be quick, mind you. Prices are soaring for everything "classic". My late Dad's H-reg Nova went for just over £7,000 in June.

Mine looked like that. Just threw a set of 17cm Pioneers in, didn't cost much. Sound excellent too!

Never a piece I was ever interested in. One of my friends from school played some of it for her Higher Music exam and having to hear it every flaming time she practiced on the piano did my bloody head in. EDIT - oops, it was actually Minuet in G that she played.

If memory serves this is also common on GM SAABs, but I doubt the relevance of such a thing to the discussion at hand.

Canny justify nearly 100 euros for what it is really. There's threads about using Lupo ones or generic ones which is honestly the best solution, but the guide is there for anyone with the same one as mine.

Fabia Mk1 Centre Console Cupholder Fitting Guide Much like my other guide(s), this will “talk” you through fitting one of these elusive cupholder doodads… if you can get your hands on one, mind you. This is good modification instead of having to resort to cheaper, rattlier, vent clipping alternatives. Trust me, I know. Massive thank you to @KeithCheetham for supplying this item all for gratis. This guide works for both Pre-FL and Post-FL Fabia Mk1 models of all body types since they all share the same dashboard. DISCLAIMER, as always: I’m not responsible if you eff this up or take your fingers off (somehow). Do this at your own risk. Take proper care working with tools, or else the only tool will be yourself. Step One – Acquiring Parts and Tools: AHAHAHAHAHAHA… good luck. Alright, the process of finding the cupholder is tedious, so just wait until one pops up. The part number is 6Y0862531H47H. So erm, see above. Tools required – Torx driver with T15 fitting (or T20, whichever fits). Get some trim removal tools too, or a screwdriver with tape around the head to prevent damage. Step Two – Check Parts and Fitting: Check the parts work. Cannot explain that any simpler than that. This is what you should have: If you don't have this, then you have the wrong one. Begin removing this trim panel... Then this blank button (or heated seat module if you’re posh) … Remove screws with Torx driver. Remove the heater control panel which comes off with a little persuasion… Remove the remaining panel… Insert cupholder and refit screws… And the blank button… Refit your heater panel… Step Three – Admire Yer Handiwork: Good lad (or lady lad), you’ve gotten this far hopefully without spontaneously combusting or dying. Now take a step back (or move the seat back a notch) and admire your efforts. Finally, put the tools away, go back in the house, get a cuppa, and fire your feet up for a job well done. Job’s a good ‘un.
