  1. Ive been running APR 1.5 for years on the standard DSG map with no issues. There is nothing to worry about stage 1 and DSG as long as the gearbox is in good shape with all the oil changes completed on time. The DSG box handles the power better than the manual box where everyone replaces their clutch within 12 months of the remap.
  2. use a tyre calculator like this https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ and try to find a size that is as close to your current size as possible. I don't think there will be any issues with ABS/ESC as long as all 4 tyres are the same size.
  3. What you are looking for does not exist - you simply can't find brakes that are 'grippy, silent, with reduced dust'. You can't change the laws of physics - better braking performance comes at the cost of more noise and dust, just how much is down to what you want. For road use, the most performance will come from a good quality plain disc - slots and holes will only be cosmetic unless you are driving really hard on a track. All the performance will come from your pad choice, not the disc. I have ceramic pads which are a lot more expensive, quiet and dust free but would not be very good on the track. Save your money on the discs and get the best pads you can afford. As also mentioned, make sure the rest of the braking system is tip top, ie top quality fresh fluid, hoses in good condition etc.
  4. Looking for some help on tracking down my slow leak. 2015 VRS petrol with DSG, had the waterpump changed about a year ago so that was the first place I looked when I noticed the coolant going down - nothing. I have been under the car, cant see any coolant or any dry deposits etc. I swear I can sometimes smell coolant like it is burning off somewhere but that could be in my head. Recent oil change was fine, no mayonnaise etc. The leak is only small, only a few mm on the coolant bottle every 2-3k kms but as it is a sealed system it has to be going somewhere? Any ideas on where to look guys? Thanks in advance.
  5. 70,000 miles! as Ken states above, they are just worn out. Still a little strange that they have not wore evenly though.
  6. Would it really be that bad painting them? they will be off the car so easy to paint, get some red calliper paint and it would be a good match - I doubt anyone would know. I have used those calliper paint kits and the finish has lasted years.
  7. I would say its a quality issue, the grooves are not uniformly deep so they are wearing at different rates.
  8. Where in Aus are you, I have the APR 1.5, if local im sure we could sort it out.
  9. although all relevant, i think the main point here is that I don't think that tyre will physically fit under the arches, especially the fronts on full lock.
  10. You don't say which Octavia you have but I don't think it matters. What matters is that these are critical safety items, you really need to be putting the correct size on for the wheels and space available (or at least very close). Plus, any difference in size will also effect your speedo. The standard size for the 18" wheel is 225/40/18 so the original tyres were off to start with, but what you have purchased is way off and I don't think they will even fit without rubbing. I would be cancelling my order sharpish and order the correct size. Look at the image below and you can see how much bigger the tyre is that you have just purchased, and your speedo will over-read a lot. Why did you purchase such a large tyre? if you are after more grip then really the only way to get that is to buy a better, high performance tyre like PS4's or Goodyear F1's
  11. so many posts on this topic on this forum, even to the point of people sharing the sound of their new exhausts. Also, as the engine is shared with other marques, you can search the VW Golf and Audi forums - the engine is EA888 gen 3. Forums are a great source of knowledge and experience and all have a handy search function 😜
  12. im sure similar arguments were had back in the day when the first motorcar came along. They were expensive, where would you find fuel, easy to get stranded, you even had to build roads (sound familiar?). Battery storage technology will continue to develop and who knows where it will all end up, but with many countries banning the ICE it looks like EV's are here to stay.
  13. They colour the coolant as they have different specs and cant be mixed. It is supposed to make it easier for people that no nothing about cars to pick the right coolant.
  14. I thought that the thermostat and waterpump were integrated into the same housing ?! Could be wrong of course good video below showing on the the crappy units.
  15. There is a paper sticker under the boot liner and should also be in the owners handbook that lists all the equipment codes for that car. One of those codes is for the electrics/harness needed for a tow bar if fitted. Im sure someone will come along with exact code shortly.
  16. Very likely the water pump or housing - it is all one big plastic unit and a pain to remove (read lots of labour!). I had mine done a year ago on my VRS after the same symptoms as you. It wont be cheap unfortunately so using an independent, preferably a German car specialist as they would have done many before, would be ideal. Unfortunately, I still have a very small leak somewhere as I am having to top up every few months. No visible signs of a leak, no steam, no mayonnaise in the oil etc so not sure where it is going.
  17. who buys a diesel and only drives 5000 miles a year ? @Ords is correct - you need to buy a car with an engine that suits your driving needs, you cant really complain if you are not driving a car like it is intended to be driven and is starts to have issues. A car is usually the second most expensive thing you will ever buy but so many people dont do any research beforehand. This wonderful forum and many others mean that even non-car type people can find out about a car before purchasing. BAck to the OP, you negotiated them down because you suspected an issue, use that money to fix it - simple.
  18. if you have a 2.0 vRS petrol then you have a chain not a belt.
  19. And not to mention the reason they are illegal is that they do not have the proper cut off and blind everyone coming towards you. If you have reflector housing then dont be that d!ck that want brighter headlights! Same goes for hids in a reflector headlight.
  20. not familiar with the 1.4 but as a DI engine could carbon build up be an issue or does it have dual injector setup like the VRS?
  21. doesnt look like a sump to me, plus it has what looks like a BMW logo???
  22. This! and traction control off - now I will just get manageable wheel spin without the horrible wheel hop. Be warned, you will increase the vibration in the car, especially in reverse. Some cars are worse than others, plenty of info on the web especially on the golf gti, Audi S3 forums as it is the same setup. Everyone telling him to 'drive more responsibly' should maybe just not reply, at no point did he say this was on public roads did he? Anyway, I hated my wheel hop with stage 1 APR so fitted a dogbone insert from Powerflex, I went for the red one which is meant for diesel and supposed to be softer. I hate the extra vibrations but they are only in reverse so can live with it. You will need to get under the car and take a pic as there a two types of dogbone used and there is no way of knowing which one you have without looking.
  23. so many posts on this one and has been covered many times - have a look through some of the old posts. Not even engine or car specific - aftermarket air filters and their pros / cons - must have been discussed on every car forum ive been on.
  24. This has been covered many times. I did the muffler delete and left the resonator in place. Not too loud under normal driving but give a little right foot and it sounds great, plus a decent DSG pop. Also by far the cheapest and easiest solution that is easily reversed if you dont like it.
  25. 600 is about right. We have to be careful with some of our advice on here, we dont want to be making matters harder than they are. You cant compare the diesel and petrol VRS as they are completely different! The EA888 gen3 waterpump housing is a well know problem across all the various brands, the part is expensive and there is a sh!t ton of stuff to move out of the way to get access = $$$. Unlike some others, I know this for a fact as I have paid for this recently myself, even watched a youtube video to see if I would take it on myself - NO THANKS.
