  1. If you mean cabin filter have a look for your model and year on the Mann catalogue, also shows fitting instructions which come paper printed in the box with the filter. Choice of three qualities of filter too. - https://www.mann-filter.com/en/catalog.html HTH.
  2. Fully charging the battery is a good idea and clearing the error codes as computers are extremely dumb and easily confused by their own messages (an error codes). It would probably pay to keep on the on the battery state of charge as the battery really has to be hammered to get to a state where it can't start the engine on modern cars. As you have seen well before that there should be warnings and lots of (unseen error codes). The battery has been weakened by this experience and if it's an original factory fitted battery it might have had its useful life shortened. You really need to know what caused the battery to be so low, was there a drain, a mistake made with leaving something on when the engine wasn't running, or is there a VWŠkoda fault with the car. See my first post here to possibly help avoid the same situation reoccurring too soon. Also consider preventative charging using a charger, best to get the battery to full even if it takes more than one session and going lower and slower will get more of the Henikein effect. Good luck, let us know if this returns.
  3. The Adobe program was already updated today so it's possibly that but just for the sheer 'fun' of it I 'modified' it and then a 'repair' but no joy. Chrome is up to date. I expect the problem might have started with an update of Adobe or Chrome and will probably sort itself at the next update of one or both of them. Thank gawd we don't have these things on cars. 😄 I can download oxop(?) file from a post here. I don't understand why you put the bill up, I was joking of course I can believe you had an alternator failure, and enjoy the irony of that, but I see so far it's been downloaded 8 times (unless you done 8 test download, covering possibilities). Yes I remember your previous job well, hence the remarks before, and you echoing the troll and breezy sniper but you always seemed better than that to me, and possibly an 'amesome fella for your ancient years, sorry how the years and perhaps other stuff have affected your body, I know exactly how that is. If I put something wrong you'd be right to correct me and/or give your different opinion or belief. I can't think I deliberately said anything technically incorrect or caused expensive problems unless someone done the things wrong, and things that might not need doing can still be done and give overall improvement on a wider band of vision rather than narrow one-off direct issue, I'd have thought you might have trained people in your past and understand this. As you didn't have this Superb from new you can get out of the alternator killing, tho' perhaps not giving it an easier life. I doubt they lost the comms more likely their scanner program and/or VW's programs on your car, you put far too much faith and worry about these car communication and other computer systems, don't let your marque brand loyalty blind you too much to all their flaws. 70 odd quid sounds very reasonable. I should have a few wisecracks in mind for Ghost Auto coming out and doing the work, but nothing, been far too hot for far too long (self-discharging) bound to be some puns at least, perhaps others will give them. Sweet dreams.
  4. Hi, welcome. Have a look at the following post to find the map and see those near you that may be able to help you, see when they last posted, make a judgement, as you can't direct/private message them put a post back here by giving them a shout out by putting an ' @ ' symbol just before their member name. e.g. - @nta16 = @nta16 List of VCDS Owners (Previously known as VAG-COM) & VCP Owners -https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/#comment-3091029 HTH.
  5. @pab567 probably knows all about this and may be able to help you.
  6. I can't download pdfs off posts some unknown reason at the moment and I know I'm not alone but it's not the Briskoda site at fault as others can download them. I totally believe you could have an alternator fail on you, it's the irony of it with your previous work and dismissal of some of my advice to others about battery and potential effects on its partner the alternator. If you have a video of the alternator failing I'd be please to witness that, it would humour me greatly. 😁
  7. You've seen my posts, I make many mistakes, I used to worry as bit about it and because of my stalking troll putting my posts were too authoritative I used to put what's in my signature "Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything." at the start of every post (when I remembered) and other members asked me not to as it's not necessary as posters aren't expected to be experts (unless they claim to be or others say they are, correctly or not). I try to show editing of my posts if relevant and leave up my errors, if relevant you don't want to know about all my typos, missspellings (yes, that was on purpose) but to show I was wrong and have corrected the mistake on that occasion. But, but, Graham you're humouring and spoiling me with the alternator packing up ! 😆 Of course this can happen when it's been overworked because the 12v battery has ben overworked and/or allowed to get to lower state of charge too much and/or too often, lack of charging, or recharging with a battery charger and occasional battery charging. 😆 😆 😆 There full c i r c l e - let's leave it there, well for today anyway, tomorrow's another day another opportunity, for something, who knows what til we get there and if we don't it won't really matter. 🙃
  8. Well it's obviously not a Briskoda site error. The oxps file (wotever that is) did download and open for me on my machine. The pdf file I notice has 11 downloads (so far) so it's probably program errors elsewhere. For me on my machine, with mine and your pdf the pdf boxes in the posts didn't show a download on the post even after going away from and returning to page and site, and wasn't downloaded to the Download or any other folder (you don't have to download to the Download folder) and wasn't stuck in any virus filter. not that I'm clever enough to know anything about such stuff I just click the mouse and use my eyes. ETA: @Koponop did you check your Download (or other file) for the download? I know from personal experience that computer folk and computer professionals often blame users for "user's error" when in fact in my experience and that of others, the masses sometimes, the error is often with the programming or equipment, scapegoating often for poor quality work and testing. Also proves that those who are normally right can be wrong sometimes. 😁 Lessons for all of us, all the time, everyday. The diagram looks like the horrible grey and black things presented by VW, in the VAG-COM, VCDS legacy type, appeals more to computer types than non-computer types like me. At least you have it up for those that know to comment on, mine is only on its aesthetics. 😄
  9. That is the problem - having to ask for things to be done, not everyone will realise this or want to ask - and even if you do ask I've seen posts here where the garage doesn't do it even if asked unless it's on schedule. It's an all-in price of what's (considered sometimes) required just because it's included in a sample list doesn't mean it get's done unless its on schedule time/mileage. As Ootohere has put before if the parts, materials, time and labour can be kept in stock that's the garage's gain. My wife has had to ask the Dealership to carry out chargeable scheduled when booking "service" work at least twice! And once at collection after the "service" and originally missed schedule work had been done they mentioned the (con) cambelt work was due, at collection not at point of booking, unfortunately we fell for the con, £429! At the time my wife dealt with everything as it's her car. I wasn't drafted in until the Dealership started acting like a typical bad Dealership, finding unnecessary work and messing her about. Which reminds me I must show her the two lie sheets ('Visual Health Check' ticksheet) one with £1200 of work for "Clutch pedal heavy to press" and "Rear bump stops perishing", by the one bloke they seem to have working there and the next only 20 days later by the same bloke where these worrying items to my wife have disappeared and items marked greenbox G (good) despite absolutely no work, attention or mention given to these items then or since, nearly 2 years ago.
  10. Just for information I can't download the pdf on my machine but then the other day I couldn't download a pdf I'd put up. Koponop have you tested the pdf downloads for you? If there's a problem with downloading the pdf you, i or anyone else can report this, either by using the 'Report' button (on dropdown from pressing the three-dots menu at top right of post) or (I think) posting on the 'Bugtracker' section. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/briskoda-bugtracker/ Even if I could download the pdf and open it I'd have no idea if the information was correct or even read it or understand it properly but do bear in mind what I've put before, double-check and cross reference any information you get from any source for accuracy, even from VW. I think professionals may use more than one source of wiring diagrams for various reasons, same as they may use various scan tools as each has its good and bad points, I'd imagine even at laboratory levels of equipment there'd be different makes and models to choose from. Another rule of mine is always to test the test equipment before doing a test as just one false reading can give a lot of hassle and waste a lot of time, I've had that with borrowed simple leak testing equipment, the leak actually being on the tester hose. I once retested my (not expensive) digital multimeter as I didn't believe it's reading as it was outside on the coldest day of the year, but it was correct and this bloke had got his car's 12v battery so low, lowest I'd ever seen in my very limited but decades of experience with car batteries. Watched a video the other day of some clever(?) bloke because he thought it had a design and build fault testing a cheap battery charger with a piece of laboratory electronic equipment then "modifying" the cheap charger - if he'd had read the cheap battery charger instructions he'd have known the charger was actually faulty and had it replaced for free if it was still under its 3(?) years warranty. Some blokes believe it's against some law to read instructions, particularly professionals in my experience. Hope you get this sorted. Otherwise do as we used to when the fuel gauge wasn't working or inaccurate, fill the fuel tank, reset the tripometer, and you gauge how much fuel is left in the tank by how many miles (km) you've done and type of driving since last refill. 😄
  11. Perhaps I misread or misunderstood then but have a look in the forum I suggested as I thought VW was mentioned but perhaps it was with other systems or programs working in the VWŠkoda models. It's not something I need worry about at the moment, other than perhaps when it plays up in the vehicle(s) in front of me or coming the other way when I'm on a road. I'm sure if there are any faults there'd be from system parts or components and never the written programs, or of course user-errors, or "user error". 😄
  12. Graham reread what I put about the Covid bit and what I put about your business knowledge, you're getting yourself upset about nothing and putting spittle in my direction when you shouldn't. I thought I must have mistyped something (again) but it's your misreading and misunderstanding this time, we all do it sometimes, I do it often, so it's no biggy, your energy could charge a battery. 😄
  13. It might depend on how different or not the new battery is to the old battery, hopefully you've seen all the posts on the important (for the sake of a word) bits of the 'coding' (data input, tapping figures on a computer program) then more important sometimes to do the data input correctly, not unknown for a professional to balls this up (why VW's computer program would allow this is another matter). If the new battery is same type and near enough same Ah rating many feel things will sort themselves out without 'coding'. Lots of beliefs, and opinions, have no evidence yet they are still held, sometimes by masses. I'd not loose sleep either way but if there's easy and cheap 'coding' available I'd go for it, in fact I did - but I'd never pay anywhere near £40. Why pay £40? Particularly if you can get it coded by a Briskoda member with the facility for a beer token. If you want have a look here. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/#comment-3091029 Or perhaps A G Falco in North Dorset may be available, willing and able to help you but obviously I don't speak for him so you'd have to ask. HTH.
  14. Good. I didn't say it was all garages. Very big, big, medium or small there's good bad and a lot in between. Being local family owned and run with the family working there everyday doesn't necessarily mean they hold their customers in very high regard or very low regard I wasn't referring to any place that you know as I've no idea of what and who you know and don't know as I put I'm going on my personal experience of dealing with business in the motor trade and yes I do know people that were in the motor trade at various levels and even those that were generally decent people would pull tricks on their customers or for their customer that were dishonest at best. What makes no sense to you and your experience will make sense to others. It's good that you have people at garages you want to defend., long may it continue. Stop with the nonsense you don't know all business well, or even perhaps how business and businesses operate, bless your cotton socks.
  15. Eric, guesses yes, educated not so much. I can assure you it is very rare I get something right but as we say here if you throw enough mud at the wall some of it might stick, a stopped clock is right twice (or once) a day, and I don't think I have ever started. I too sometimes listen to BBC World Service on the few very occasions I'm in my wife's 2015 Fabia by myself (and often when at home) this is on DAB radios with I think DAB Traffic announcements as all are local UK so (UK) English. Lots is going on with the BBC, most in the UK have very little understanding or care about the uniqueness of the BBC and younger ones no history of its possible relevance to the UK and rest of the world so funding is always an issuer here. As such cut backs have been made including the World Service, how this affects supply out your way I have no idea. Don't get me wrong, the BBC isn't perfect, and it has been putting itself in trouble again, only today national reporting of running errors, some of the commercial competitors see this as their gain. I'm glad you have got it sorted, with cars I particularly like quick, simple, no-cost, clean-hands "repairs", always my first go to with any car issue after decades of getting dirty on even the simplest of jobs on cars with their generally ancient technologies (including much of their computer stuff). Lots of the World Service programs are from Radio 4 so if you don't already you might enjoy that if it is still available on the internet somehow or the programs (and/or podcasts)from Radio 4. Cheers.
  16. Lots of businesses decline lots of work, most businesses aren't about doing as much work as possible but about making as much profit as possible. Many, many businesses make more profit by doing less work and the English motor trade generally is for their benefit with only lip-service to customers' benefit. Unfortunately I can, again, assure you from personal experience even smaller privately owned garage(s) regard customers as something unpleasant they trod in on soles of their fashion shoes or safety boots. The bigger garages and business have ignored training and staff retention for years/decades, eventually the pot runs dry given natural wastage (like old blokes and not so old blokes leaving the trade to retire or deliver groceries or perhaps set up their own businesses. When you own a large number of, different named, business you don't worry too much if a number of them fall by the wayside as you own a number of "the competitors" anyway and shift to larger quicker profits, you only need worry about short and medium term, some would say that is good business sense, I'm alright Jack look at the sizes of my houses, boats (racetrack). It's all a supply and demand situation Driving tests are taking longer because of lack of personnel and modern methods of fiddling things, same idea as bulk-buying, sucking up, as many tickets for entertainment events to sell them at profit back to those you deprived them of, same sort of thing, and other stuff, happens with driving test dates. The internet has opened up so many more opportunities for dishonest (and outright criminality) Consider yourself lucky you've led such a shuttled life and can keep so relaxed, and retain your baby-faced innocence. 😁 All the best to you with your new purchase (only seems two minutes since your last, I must be getting old).
  17. There also seems to be some sort of VWŠkoda(? and/or others) arse and elbow situation about various map / GPS to Traffic Sign(s)? Recognition system details and workings but I might be wrong as I avoid such useful modern stuff as much as I can (after driving my neighbour's 2023 (Nissan) with its underdeveloped unreliable computer systems).
  18. That has less to do with Covid and more to do with the general attitude of the English motor trade and those that own various parts of it, and of course the attitudes of those of the general public that don't have the knowledge and experience of proper commercial services and/or expect something for nothing and done yesterday. Living in the county of motorsports and engineering after various recommendations from others I've finally found a local-ish small garage that operates in a decent fashion to their staff, customers and their vehicles. I was very reassured by two things, they don't open at the weekends and "No, we know all about the front dampers that the VW (Škoda) Dealerships use, we don't fit better".
  19. Great to know such places still exist. Dealing with Dealerships and larger privately owned garages and their salesmen can be a very protracted and annoying experience even for what should be the simplest of sales for them, and if a woman goes in by herself the very worse effluent of them tends to surface.
  20. MoTs are very overrated especially those done by the selling garage. Even a 100% honestly and to best of knowledge, training (hopefully) and experience applied MoT is only one (hopefully trained) person's opinion, at that only one point in time, the vehicle meets the minimum statutory standards, not that the vehicle is as good as it could or should be. I'm having my wife's 2015 Fabia MoT'd a couple of months early as I was fed up with having to sort thing in August and September and thought the daylight is longer in June/July and possibly better weather, how wrong I was this year with this hideous (over) heat, Sod's Law finds a way of applying itself.
  21. Have a look/search at the threads and posts in the 'Audio, Electronics and Security' forums for information on this (mainly with regard to UK?) I have no idea about the acronyms and numbers or systems or how and if they apply partly or fully to your car. 'Audio, Electronics and Security' forums. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/7-audio-electronics-and-security/ HTH.
  22. Yes. It's the comparing and cross referencing that might enable finding the correct details. Some people don't have the experience and knowledge to not fully trust the information given to them - some even seem to believe that if it's on a computer it must be correct. I wasn't so concerned for you, you're big enough, old enough and experienced enough to generally look after yourself. May all your problem be little ones.
  23. German marques were always making things more difficult than necessary by having things over complicated (to show how clever? they are (not)?) and bad enough with a 2015 Fabia but get to newer cars it's gets worse and worse, for all other makes/brands and vehicles too. A mate had a 60s Viva (HA?) in the late 70s, it wasn't in good condition by then but you certainly learnt about real world driving with such an old banger. 😄 I'm with you, I passed my test in 1977 (in a driving school FIAT IIRC) and until 3 years ago had for the previous 16 years as my one and only everyday car a 1973 MG Midget, a fairly stripped down (and old designs) car even in 1973, so to having to fart about with a 2015 VW came with some very annoying (and nasty) surprises. Driving my neighbour's 2023 (Nissan) each week was very annoying, having to turn off all the driver "aids" and "assists", most were not developed enough to be really reliable. For your 12v battery do very occasional preventative recharging of the battery (to full) with an appropriate charger maintainer following the instructions in the car's owners manual and for the charger. 3 or 4-amp is ideal, takes longer of course but you can recharge in more than one go if required. Probably the same as you used to do in the 1960s, isn't progress great! 🙃 If your front dampers aren't "misting" and don't have a clonk (or clonks) from the underside somewhere then you've done well. Good luck.
  24. For info, in my personal experience the digital 'Individual record' and 'Complete record' are more accurate than the VWŠkoda UK HQ 'Service History Certificate' - how that could be VWŠkoda HQ were unable to explain. That of course is not say that the 'Individual record' and 'Complete record' may not have errors and omissions, which may or may not transfer to the VWŠkoda UK HQ 'Service History Certificate'. As always you need to double-check and cross reference all information from all sources, which is why it's good to also have the paper printed bills/invoices and (Dealership) 'Your Visual Health Check' tick (lie) sheet and 'Maintenance list' tick (lie) sheet.
  25. And did you obtain that information from using an electronic program load machine or just looking at information given with the Ctek. 🙂 As these "smart" device computer really dumb you can fool it into working on a battery below 2.0V if you want to, how good and reliable that battery would be for actual use and on or with what depends on many factors but it could be done. Some chargers have a very high minimum voltage they don't want to work below so much more scope for batteries with those.
