Pointless automotive trends part 232
Hard to tell from that photo but if they are telling you it's a big repair then my advice is to shop around for different quotes. We had worse on two of the 19" crator wheels, the smart repair cost £55 a wheel and was done at the roadside by a mobile van. The third wheel needed a full repair and had to be taken back to the workshop. £105 for that one. First time ever having alloys repaired. I'm very fussy, and I was so impressed by the results. The full repaired wheel was like brand new and it's only when you're really up close washing the smart repair wheels you can see the different in shading on the rim.

System updates
The point was they weren't automatic. MIB3 is automatic only for us plebs. Other than visit the dealership we can no longer manually update the system. Seem to remember some Russian on here said they could but I'm not sure any other markets can. Also seem to recall someone saying after a software update the Upload via USB worked but would need some reminding of that because as far as I'm aware, nobody else appears to be able to manually update the system / maps. Those of us with MIB3 need to forget all about the older systems otherwise this subject will never go away. How many threads have there been over the various Skoda models on updating the software on newer cars? The same topic seems to crop up at least once a week.

System updates
What was the process for updating them -was it not downloading them from a map portal onto a SD Card first? For better or for worse, today's models ( MIB3) will automatically update over-the-air. You need to forget all about the older systems, MIB3 works differently.

Emergency Assist
Hi. I'm quite sure nobody but the engineers who designed the system will be able to answer your question with any accuracy. Apologies for answering a question with a question but... If emergency assist didn't activate as soon as it detected an accident ( defined as the airbags being deployed ), then what would be the point of having emergency assist? It's an unusal question - why do you ask? Right at this moment I have a picture in my mind of someone about to tamper with the electrics in your car and you're scared that if the airbags are set off, you'll have an ambulance and fire engine on your doorstep before you can say " Oh 5hit ! "

Extended Warranty
My tuppence worth is that when I thought I was keeping my Octavia beyond 3yr, like you I was given the option of extending it. Having checked out other prices and more importantly policy wordings, I concluded the Skoda offer was a bargain and took out the extended warranty. My current Kodiaq always was going to be a keeper ( unless reliability becomes an issue of course). I had the option of buying an extended warranty when new but dismissed that in favour of the offer Skoda make after 3yr. Personally I just think it's a better deal. As for those periodic 20% all-in-one offers - our Karoq will be 3yr old in November. Again I'd normally be changing the car at 3yr old but that too is going to be a keeper. I noticed last year that Skoda advertised the 20% offer around Black Friday, so hopefully they'll do the same this year. The policy was exactly the same as the extended warranty offered after 3yr. I'll defo be signing up if they make the same offer this Nov.

Infotainment updates
Funny you say that. I seem to remember getting in to a loop where as you say, the registration process kept failing. Given the point of failure, if I were to take a guess, it was as if the software within the infortainment or Skoda Connect had put a block on the email address I'd been using. So I just used an alternative email address and hey presto it worked. If anyone is having similar problems, it's worth a try.

Kodiaq MY23 changes
Yes I did. As expected your question is rhetorical - you don't give a toss how many people respond because your goal is always to justify your position. The survey result doesn't square with your opinion of the brand so you're doing what you always do when any member on here has a different opinion to yourself - you attempt to rubbish them, as you've done with me in the past. Aren't you going to organise a forum poll? Here's a better question. How many cars have Skoda sold and how many of those owners have posted on Briskoda? And even if you were to account for that minuscule amount, Briskoda is primarily used by those who have a problem and are looking a solution. ( When's the last time anyone came on here and said I've just had my car serviced and it was great ?). So to justify your conclusion, you're asking turkeys to vote for christmas? It's all very Donald Trumpian. Secondly, if every single person on Briskoda were to reply it still wouldn't make any impact on the results because that'd be an insignificant number too. You'd have everyone believe the cars are faulty, dealers are rubbish, servicing is rubbish, blah blah blah, It's just not true for the vast majority of owners as the surveys indicate. Owners are happy with their cars. Briskoda is no different from any other owners forum - go to any forum and the vast majority of posting are problems. One last thing about being a Skoda owner which is even more confusing to me at least. If you have a Skoda then why are you listing a Corsa, a Suzuki, a Shogun etc... Who on a Skoda forum gives a toss about those? If you're on a Skoda forum, wouldn't it be an idea to list your Skoda? And presumably you own just the one obsolete model, so why are you replying to every post on every model on every forum within Briskoda? Now even a simple indi survey seems to upset you. Why? What exactly is your goal here?

Infotainment updates
Setting up personalisation was so intuative in my previous car, but with MIB3 on MY21 onwards it's a right pain-in-the-arse to get working. I think Venus has to be aligned in a straight line with Mercury and Mars before the personalisation option works. You say it's activated ( there is no menu option I came across ). If it's activated then it will detect you ( and greet you ) when you enter the car using your registered key. On MIB3 equipped cars you'll need to set up a Skoda Connect account for each person - i.e. they need to have a seperate email address. Once they're registered then you ned to go thru that palaver again for each key holder. It takes feck'n ages! Of course you must remember to keep your own key well out of range when setting up another user. All works perfectly well when it's setup but have to admit, it took me hours of trial and error to get the thing working correctly. With the old MIB2 system, it take less than a minute to allocate 3 keys to different people.

Kodiaq MY23 changes
Well you didn't for a start because unlike just about everyone else on here, you don't own a Skoda - or any VW group car for that matter. But what interests me is, why would you want to know that? What's the significance of people on BriskSkoda replying? Whatever your reason, the same question could be asked of any owners forum of any make - how many of them replied? It's all six and half a dozen.

I think the seat backs, sides and probably bolsters are animal free, but the facing where your ar5e and back goes - that was running around a field at one time. There used to be folk who'd complain about the qulity of leather on Skoda and other VW cars - must say I conditioned it twice a year and I never had an issue with it.

Infotainment updates
Cheers, never knew that. I used to just leave the message on screen then whenever the car came to a halt ( say at traffic lights or wherever), just put the gearbox in to P and action the message. Once the update has been initiated you can continue driving and it works away in the background.

Things you wish you’d ordered with your Kodiaq!
I agree. It used to be something you'd use as a one off 'circus trick' but was cumbersome in use. I wouldn't be bothered with all the steps I had to go thru on older VW or Fords. Even with a manual gearbox, it takes a wee bit of effort to control the speed. But in an large automatic where it's not easy to judge the corners of the car, the current system is so simple it's untrue. push a button on the console, stick the car in reverse and you can parallel park perfectly in to the tightest of spaces with your eyes closed. ( not that I recommend that of course ). It was the first option box I ticked.

Things you wish you’d ordered with your Kodiaq!
Previously had a near fully loaded Octavia so knew what I liked and disliked and ordered the Kodiaq with exactly what I wanted, one of which was Park Assist. And it's something I've never ever regretted. For parallel street parking it's just brilliant - so easy, it causes me no stress whatsoever manouvering in to the tightest of spaces - works 1st time everytime. But if you're talking about parking at 90 degrees in to a bay then that's a different kettle of fish. I find it much quicker to drive or reverse the car in myself. Trick is you really need to leave enough space for the system to work but our supermarket car park lanes just aren't wide enough. So it's often a case of the system finding a space, reverse, fwd, reverse, fwd, and then reverse in to it. TBH. If car parks are your only concern, then you're not missing anything. It may work in an Arona but remeber, the Kodiaq is a much larger car.

That sounds like a Captain Mainwaring quote " I was wondering when someone would notice that " The reason I never suggested it is you can get away with covers on cloth seats but you have to be ultra, ultra careful with leather, especially if the car isn't yours. Knew someone with an Evoque who'd just used those plastic protectors which he never took off. Then when he went to sell the car, well... it looked like his leather had skin cancer. Beyond repair, only had two options - have the seat recovered or replace the seat. Cheaperst option was from breakers yard - still cost a small fortune tho. Leather needs to breath, it needs to be kept supple.

Kodiaq MY23 changes
It's all about the badge. Even at over £40k which I agree is eyewatering for a Golf, it has three letters beside it GTi, which is always going to attract. We love Skodas for all different reasons but if desirablilty was one of them then I'd seek psychological help. As for prices couldn't agree more, all depends how you finance the product but don't make the mistake of comparing cash -v- monthly payment as easily as that It's like saying if I were to sell my car now, I'd see approx £2000 loss in depreciation ( used prices are plumiting already now deliveries have returned ) but if I'd taken it on PCP, it'd have cost me £600 x 18mth = £10800 to walk away. There's more to it than that. If someone is paying the same money for a new car today as they did 18mth ago, what that tells me is they were paying well over the odds for their old car. They may have been happy with the monthly figure and that's all that counts, but trade prices don't increase at the same rate as list prices do - the 'horses for courses' idea sounds like something a good salesman would preach. As sure as the Pope will always be a Catholic, cars will always become more expensive. Is my car worth an additional £325 a year in tax alone before it moves off my drive? I buy Skodas primarily because they're cheaper, but when you cross in to that 'luxury' price bracket... well I might as well buy luxury is my school of thought. Had the 8" screen in the Octavia - it's certainly much easier to operate and provides exactly the same information.

Kodiaq MY23 changes
We already have digital dash - it's never been the case that the exact same version / size makes it's way down the chain. One of the few things that annoys me and something both VW and Audi have addressed, is the infotainment screen - the touchscreen buttons on MY23 are still set up for left hand drive. Not only is it quite a stretch from the drivers seat to select say the menu button, it also renders 'gesture control' next to useless ( if it's not already useless ) as everytime you go to press the menu button, the system thinks your waving your hand. It's an obvious design flaw - I'm surprised Skoda didn't address it. It's just one of the reasons that given the option, I'd have chosen the 8" screen over the 9.2" if it was available on Sportline. It's difficult to get an exact like-4-like price, but that's another thing that's going like Audi. I note that on broker sites such as Drive-the-deal, Skoda is no longer listed - only usually see that when there's a price change. So I've no means of accurately estimating current discounts but... I've just configured my car and estimated £600 for Canton which of course is not available at the present time. Back in Dec 2020, my car with options listed at £38500 and with all the various discounts, I paid £31k. Configuring it right now, it's listing at £41700 for which the discount I'm guessing might be a couple of thousand. That's insane !! It's even worse when you think it now attracts an extra £325 RFL per year., If I were on the search for a car right now I just wouldn't buy another Kodiaq. Whenever we get back to near normal, I reckon depreciation on current cars will be eyewatering.

Kodiaq MY23 changes
What does an Audi have today that a Skoda doesn't? When changing our cars, I seem to remember on several occasions, visiting Audi and noting they were still using the older VW group engines.

Small accident (rear bumper spoiler?)
Nothing wrong with the design. You can have a plastic bumper and you can have a violent removal, but you can't have both and hope everything will be OK.
-
No launch control on new vRS?
Sorry but 'launch control' on something like a Kodiaq - it just makes me laugh. You'll Google it but won't go beyond that? But you did go beyond that - you asked the question on Briskoda. Have to agree with Yogi. What's more simple - reading the physical manual ( or downloading it off the website and reading it in front of you) or creatng a post and then waiting for someone else to read the manual, have them take a photo from that online manual, and then post that photo on to Briskoda, for you to look at? Bloody laziness, that what it is. RTFM.
-
Front spoiler?
If you want to turn a stock Kodiaq in to looking like a Sportline or a vRS then you're looking at a new bumper. If sourcing a new one as per the reply ve is too expensive, then you could start looking at scrap yards.
-
Small accident (rear bumper spoiler?)
Very hard to tell without physically seeing it, but if the bumper had been caught on something, then I'd have expected the bottom to be dislodged - your pics show it to be the top. The plastic clips on the top also look scratched? If I were to take a guess I'd say something has sheared off - you may be looking at a whole new bumper.

2022 kodiaq sel exec seats
The dealer will only be reading off the information that's displayed in front of them. The dealer told you correctly. An SE-L exec already comes with an electric heated memory driver's seat as standard. The option to add an electric memory heated seat only relates to the passenger side. Where did you hear that the seat material is changed? If you want alcantara then your only option is to change your order to Sportline trim. ( and whatever you do, do not opt for the ventilated seats as those are leather ).

Varioflex seat question.
None of those combinations are the issue being discussed. As indicated in the owners manual, it's when you fold down the backrest on one or two rear seats, then flip the base up to the vertical position without removing the seat ( i.e. when using the retractable cords to secure ), that's the problem. The owners manual says you must not carry rear seat passenger(s) when any of the seats are folded up.
-
Varioflex seat question.
Must admit I'd never noticed that myself. Presumably Skoda aren't confident in the seat being secure when it's in the raised position - I wouldn't like my hand to be in the way if the retaining cord broke, so I see their logic. If you remove the seat altogether then no problemo. If say the middle and one end seat were in the raised position and there was luggage or whatever you're carrying butted up against the folded seat - i.e. preventing them from accidentally collapsing, I can't see any risk to the remaining backseat passenger. Edit - thinking about this again - if the rear seat passenger were to be in a heavy side-impact crash, I suppose their head could hit against the adjacent raised seat. Many moons ago someone drove in to the side of me at 30mph - my head certainly didn't go down as low as that but again, if you have luggage in the car then that could be a problem.

New panoramic roof, or not??
Just thinking aloud. After reading your comment, my first thought was how many owners would have come to the forum complaining why Skoda were re-using an old part rather than replacing the whole roof. I can hear them now - blaming Skoda for being stingy. It's a funny old world. If you're after re-assurance - Let's assume there is no fault with the current roof and all it needs is rebonding. Well to do that they'd still have to take the roof off, remove all the old bonding, clean it up and re-bond it - so you liner etc would still need to have come off. There may well not be an issue with the roof but I suspect it'll be cheaper for Skoda to replace it altogether than go to all the bother of cleaning up the current roof. Just imagine they took it off, cleaned it up and then found the leak still existed. I'd defo be going with a whole new roof. There used to be a problem with the drainage plugs in VW group sunroofs but your vehicle is far to new for that to be the likely cause. Defo sounds like the roof wasn't bonded properly.
