  1. How do you know he doesn't have tools, time and expertise? The fact that he didn't know how to remove trim in this particular car model, doesn't mean he doesn't have expertise, so... That is one way to do it. You don't know what you are doing and have some spare money? Go ahead. But some people prefer DIY for many different reasons.
  2. If the car is after warranty, it's better to replace it on your own, using used parts. This way you will not need a seat and mobile phone Found one in Poland for example for ~300 GBP. As for replacement, the trim below is installed using latches only, so it should be relatively easy to remove. Once remove there are couple of screws under the trim. Pics from this should help to figure it out: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134745706302?fits=Plat_Gen%3AMK+IV|Model%3AOctavia&hash=item1f5f784f3e:g:UHgAAOSwZ5llFAMh&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4AYw6ttDcqXkJNP83hmb3LsO%2FIvfNCVkFDwbykPRzyvB3eQ2MEri1D1xonyPbKP03zuGQZq2MG7sY7Rs1%2FvypbXdo%2F%2B%2Fv2tfJOvlgmnv4kWtm%2Bn1OnAUjHLRYJteVVhBYIpbiEWzvoZzOgeBkn%2Fq%2FZth7w1TP4Nl8uPaPleX0qkvn9f5OuVrpuvcbk3JoqeoDHAsuUzbgve91Jv9eKDDfIsJxb6j4xtSwP%2BtCoCknNHSpH2YIkCuZzJQAFPO7W6gOD%2BY%2BXoDrRVfCpKUz%2FlCLDrnRsH3mOA50sLwmH%2B%2B9jNK|tkp%3ABFBMvvPTsf9i
  3. Maybe a strange question, but have you done it recently? If so, what is the weather like? Front assist relies partially on the camera. If windscreen is dirty, frozen or anything like that, one might get that limited availibility warning. Easy was to check is to just clean the windscreen. I'm asking, cause software upgrade might be just coincidence, but not really the cause. I'm getting those errors from time to time, but it's always related to camera visibility in my case. Usually it's enough to use wipers. It got more frequent recently cause of the weather.
  4. To be honest i can't remember now if it was fixed at the dealership, or if i did it on my own. Do it. It's really easy fix. Actually there are additional screws for adjustment, but i never tested what they do. I mean i know there's one for adjusting vertical and one for horizontal angle. But as far as i remember there is one more, and this one might be for adjusting only matrix cluster, but i am not 100% sure. But looking at your pictures, i think in your case it needs adjusting of the whole lamp, as this "static" segment of low beam also seems to be a bit higher on the left side.
  5. Actually this switch is not changing speed as such, rather sensitivity of the rain sensor (or in fact how wipers react to certain amount of rain).
  6. Well, i've been there I mean my car had same problem, and was fixed by adjusting levels, now all is good.
  7. It seems that your left light is adjusted a bit higher, than right light and that is causing issues. If they are set correctly, on the same level, you should get ideally straight line with engine off, and one step only with engine one. In your case i can see 2 steps with engine on, and with engine off it's also going doenwards on the right side. Take it for headlight adjustment and you will be fine.
  8. No, MOT will not calibrate matrix headlights. They can do a simple adjustment of low beam. Dealership should have special tools from VW to calibrate matrix. It doesn't sound good if they are taking car to the MOT to check. Thing is, that MOT can adjust headlights physical position of the beam, however calibration is needed to allign camera with LED segments, so they match. Basically system has to disable segment, that is lighting exact spot where camera sees other car's lights. And this is done both horizontally and vertically, as each horizontal segment consists of two (i think) vertical segments. So might be, that other car is in the middle, but lower segment is not disabled, as according to computer it doesn't have to be, where in fact it has to... Hope you understand my twisted and strange explanation
  9. When looking how they work, do you see that incoming car is exactly in the middle of dimmed area? Asking, cause matrix headlights require proper calibration. Usually factory calibration is good, but it might be that someone has meddled with lights adjustment or you were unlucky to get car with wrongly calibrated from factory. I'm using matrix headlights quite often and was maybe once or twice flashed during last ~1,5 years.
  10. It's amplified elswhere. I have PnP amplifier connected to head unit using dedicated harness. When amp was connected but switched off, i could still hear sound from center speaker, and that wouldn't be possible if it was simply spliced from left/right channels. In such case it would have be to also silent with amp off. So when using external source you're good - center speaker will not work, however it will still work for any messages. BUT even if you would be using head unit as source, don't bother with this speaker. It's really hard to notice it's there, and it doesn't decrease overall sound quality, sound stage etc.
  11. https://www.pedalbox.com/us/ This is only way i know to really improve the lag. Driving is much more pleasant with this thing. I think DTUK is selling those in UK. Probably they have 30 days test/money back guarantee if you don't like it, same as DTS Systems in Germany and distributors in other countries.
  12. Yes, it should have. No, it can't be disconnected. Was surprised same as you, when i was connecting external amp and heard sound from center speaker, when there should be no sound. Thing is, that same speaker is used for other systems, like SOS. If you disconnect it, you'll get errors and some messages won't work. Good thing is, that it's normally so quiet, that after connecting the amp i don't even notice center speaker is there.
  13. Only A is matrix. If properly calibrated they do not dazzle, although you can still get flashed, as some drivers like to flash even if they are not dazzled, but they see from far away that your lights are lighter than usual... Most cars have proper calibration from factory, however some don't. Dealrships should have equipment and knowledge to get them fixed. Hope that answers all your questions
  14. Might be the case. There's one more thing about those engines. Why they are so much dependant on driving style (more than other turbo engines)? Because it doesn't always use Budack cycle. Budack cycle is only used at lower loads, and at higher load it goes to Otto cycle. This change is done in a similar way as cylinder deactivation (moving camshaft to change valve timing, as this is how cycle can be changed), so they couldn't use ACT in those engines. They could only do it, if they would keep it in Budack cycle all the time.
  15. I have no idea on what is available in Australia, but i think now all 190hp versions in Europe are Budack cycle. Previous incarnation, 180hp was using Otto cycle. I might be wrong though, as for some reason they are not bragging about it that much, as they do for some other solutions.
  16. Well, not all Fins are driving according to speed limits. I was visiting Finland last summer for holiday. Drove all the way from Poland. Was driving according to speed limits (TA was helping here ) and usually was one of the slowest ones on the road
  17. Well, in promotional info they only focused on some things, which was very misleading, especially that they showed features of both engines (130 and 150hp) without indicating which has what. Initially it was very hard to find any info. Now we know, that: 1. Variable geometry turbo and Miller cycle are only available in 130hp version, which is focused on fuel economy. 2. Special cylinder coating is only available in 150hp version, which will be base of future plug-in hybrids, so has to be immune to frequent start and stop cycles. To be honest it's hard to say why they made such decision about turbo. Especially that new version (EA211 Evo Evo? :D) will have variable geometry in 150hm version. That's why i said it greatly depends on driving style His result is kind of special, yet as you can see possible to achieve. I was test driving Seat Ateca with 190hp 2.0 (Budack cycle) for few days and it was nowhere near that result. My average was around 1 l/100km higher, than same Ateca with 1.5 150hp (around 8.5 vs 7.5). That's correct. Because of that they hold some world records in fines I think currently highest one is 121000€ for 32km/h above speed limit. However up to 20km/h over the limit fine is up to 200€. Above this limit it is caclulated in relation to income.
  18. No, it's not. You were bad luck to get a car with something broken, and dealership couldn't fix it. That's it. Yes, there were quite many issues with O4, but mostly software related and fixed now. There are cases, where software upgrades do not fix the problems, but those are rare and are not related to platform as such.
  19. That is only available in 130HP version. 150HP is using standard turbo. I believe 150HP version will get variable turbo in EVO2 version, which starts being marketed now, but not available in O4. Will probably be after facelift. I THINK, that all 190HP versions are Budack cycle now. Yes, it's more efficient than "normal" 2.0, but greatly depends on driving style. Friend of mine has A4 with this engine. Driving around Finland (huge fines for overspeeding) he's getting avarage consumption of 5,5 l/100km. Impressive result, but mostly due to driving style. No. As noted already by someone, it's more about gear ratios than engine as such. 1.5 is much more efficient than 1.8, and suitable for most users i would say. I very rarely use all it's power. When you think about gearbox however, you are right. Seems that they have overdone it with ratios. Sacrifising driving experience over (on paper) efficiency.
  20. Just ordered some "weather striping"/additional door seals from China. According to some, they help to greatly reduce wind noise. Found some clips on YT, mostly about Tesla's, as seemingly they are very active with posting clips Can't wait to get them delivered and check if it really works. So far i've done front door (full dampening), rear door (patrially done butyl mats inside of the door + foam on the trim), and recently did rear wheel arches (from inside). It's already much more quiet than stock. After doing rear wheel arches i'm wondering if it makes sense to do front arches. Tire noise is now not an issue, but theres still quite some wind noise at highway speeds. Seems to be coming from the doors, so i'm hoping those seals will fix it.
  21. If it's the same issue, it should be considered as it was never really fixed. Thing is, that you might need to sue them...
  22. Good news is, that in EU if you have reported some issue, warranty is over when issue is fixed, not when actual warranty contract is over Well, unfortunately for you (and all of us) it's not only VAG. All manufacturers do the same. Even "premium" brands.
  23. Ok, than dealership lied to me I asked them specifically how they do it, and they said "ODIS". Also seen my car from waiting area with ODIS connected. But might be, that they did it with USB after all, although have no idea why they also connected ODIS than.
  24. Swing has different software versions, but i don't know the numbers, so i don't know if it's old or not. Might be, that factory messed up coding, which happens. Best way would be to report it to dealership and they should check.
  25. Actually is that infotaiment Bolero/Columbus or Swing? Looks like Swing to me...
