  1. The Octopus scheme is designed to increase market share by attracting new customers. The Company made no profit until it's eighth year because until then it did not have enough subscribers. It can only increase turnover and maintain profit by adding more. Once it reaches saturation point i think it will have no option but to increase prices and reduce offers to keep the shareholders happy?
  2. If the electricity generation and delivery system was Nationalised. The Government could scrap the varying Tariffs and use the increasing use of electricity overnight for vehicles to fund the purchase of the Batteries to "Balance" the supply and bring the total price of electricity use down for everyone. This would stop the price of electricity being set by the price of Gas
  3. And then their share price dropped 14% ForbesFerrari Shares Tumble Toward Historic Losses As Guidance...The luxury automaker also scaled back expectations for its new electric vehicle business.
  4. MPG between drivers in the same vehicles is down to Drivers manner of driving. Better anticipation, smoother accelerating and less wastage in braking for example
  5. I would think that turning the temperature up in an ice car allows coolant flow from the engine into the heater element if you turn it to cold it physically shuts it off, coolant just runs round the engine. So if you set it on then turn the fan off heat will radiate anyway. When set to cold it's shut off so airflow would be ambient and less noticeable.
  6. 39mpg on a commute to work 51mpg on a journey at the weekend with more free flowing roads. I am struggling to work out what the problem is. Did it used to read more on the commute?
  7. Going back a long time now but when i started work in the late 70s, I was employed at a 2 screen Cinema open 11am to 10:30pm ish depending upon film length. We had 25p admission for OAPs before 6pm. A few came at 11am and stayed all day, the Manager even allowed them to switch screens. Never thought that they were just choosing to do this, who would choose to watch the same films at least ten times in a week.
  8. Do you not believe there are people with no central heating that still use 2kw convector heaters throughout the day?
  9. In other news my gas has gone down 0.054p per unit but the standing charge rose 4p per day. Another fiddle. Keeping the standing charge high means lower users can save proportionately less and less by reducing usage – that disempowers them – and is a disincentive to energy reduction generally, which is not great for the environment.
  10. This requires the customer to have the means to invest in the equipment to store the energy, why don't the energy companies buy the equipment to store the excess then they could charge the average price throughout the day. Because it's too expensive? Will affect their profits? We will end up being mandated to plug cars in every time we are home whether needing a charge or not, the energy company will then drain and re- charge "our" batteries for the departure time we set. Optimizing the energy but transferring wear and tear to the customer. Another idea would be help everyone to have battery storage in the property so the time shifting could happen automatically and again it could be same price per unit throughout the 24hrs. The current system is an economic divide. Energy should be a National asset.
  11. My comments were regarding a 2kwh battery for £600 Not your home power station which if i had the savings for and the time left to make it economic I would be doing.
  12. for Cars registered on or after 1 April 2017
  13. If your new Zero Emission car was registered by 31st March 2025, the first year VED was £0. subsequent years will be £195 with no ecs From April 1st 2025 first year £10 2nd year onwards £195 subject to ecs.
  14. Regulation (EU) 2015/758 lays down a general obligation for new types of vehicles of categories M1 and N1 to be equipped with 112-based eCall in-vehicle systems as of 31 March 2018. I suppose it would be possible for vehicles that were not "New types" to have been still registered without it. I would expect given the time it took to implement the regulations manufacturers would have done it on Model Year so MY2018 which usually start being built earlier the year before in 2017 would have it. But a MY2017 that had been sat around in a field or showroom unregisterd then sold in 2018 may not. As of January 1, 2026, new cars launched in Europe must be equipped with the updated Next Generation eCall (NG eCall) system, which uses 4G and 5G networks. Cars being built now will have that one.
  15. Maybe because it was taxed and registered before the 1st April 2025 and the tax will be next due 1st March 2026?
  16. Best way to save is do what pensioners have to do in the UK switch everything off and go and sit in the library
  17. Labour charges at main dealers can be around £120 an hour some even higher
  18. So charge a 2kwh battery up over night and the next day save 34p £600 for the battery 3,000 days later (over 8 years) you save £400........... 13p a day if the battery did last that long
  19. Not got access to an Octavia but The main one will be the negative lead of the battery to the body. others you need to find by looking for wires that are bolted to the body elsewhere. Usually a strap from the body to gearbox/engine, wires near lighting that terminate at the body. Near the fusebox. Also components that are bolted to the body could be loose if the body is rusty and they may rely on that connection for earth.
  20. Is that estimation based on buying outright or buying on finance. I understand the logic in using savings to buy them because it is probably a better return than interest on the cash. If you had to borrow £15,000 over ten years A £15,000 loan over 10 years will have monthly payments of around £129.78 with a specific interest rate, though the exact amount will vary depending on the lender's Annual Percentage Rate (APR). For a £15,000 loan over 10 years, the monthly payment is roughly £129.78, leading to a total repayment of £15,573.06 Even if it led to no cost for electricity used , I pay £95 a month but would still have to pay £15 standing charge it would need £49.78 a month FIT as well to still only break even
  21. To match the fuel duty would probably need around 20p per Kwh?
  22. Electrical gremlins can be traced to earthing problems. In a 13 year old car check the negative to body connections and clean them up.
  23. If you only bought the battery 12 months ago it should still be in warranty
