  1. nah, much more interesting to jump in in the middle and make it up
  2. so EVs are losing some of their "special" status and being brought in line with petrol & diesel powered vehicles.
  3. ah , try that in the UK and either your car will get stolen or you may get a £20 fixed penalty notice (FPN) for emission offences and stationary idling under The Road Traffic (Vehicle Emissions) (Fixed Penalty) (England) Regulations 2002. There’s potential for the fine to increase to £80. https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/idling/#:~:text=Engine idling law-,Is it illegal to let your engine idle when parked, stationary on a public road.
  4. not on a regular basis whereas it was stated above that you "often" which makes it sound like a regular occurence/practice
  5. why are you leaving the engine running in the first place if you're leaving the vehicle ? Most people would stop the engine, lock the car and then walk away. (Why does this remind me of the story of the stolen recovered car in Oz recently?)
  6. *sigh* Everything must have an app rather then a web page you can just access from your Desktop PC. The daft thing is that there will still be a web server in the background somewhere providing the details to the app double *sigh*
  7. Vehicles like the Taycan are IMHO the sort of cars we would have in the EV market if the EV market was dictated by market forces only. Weekend playthings for the more affluent who don't need to rely (so much) on a public (with a small p) charging infrastructure.
  8. did you miss the bit where I said this was global artificiality ? It's not a Scotland v England points scoring contest ;o)
  9. regardless of which Government it is (and this is global) then without things like tax incentives at point of sale and (in some cases) free charging (not to mention targets to have Zero emissions at the tail pipe) the number & variety of EVs on the road would be far lower than if market forces alone prevaricated.
  10. Why the hell should anyone get free "fuel" for anything ? I didn't see anyone offering free diesel/petrol in market force driven environments during covid (or at any other time) . The only reason that happened is because of the artificiality of the drive to increase EV sales rather than EV sales being driven by normal market forces.
  11. One of the opening statements about taking a horse to water ties in with my own view. Yes EV Technology is fascinating (and yes there is a place for it) however there is an artificial rather than natural drive to get it too market.
  12. well that seems like an eminently sensible idea, replace a slow vehicle with a fast one ;o) Surely he should have been passing the speeding tickets (and associated points) onto his employees though so (other than a small amount of admin work ro advise who the driver was at the time) why would he be fed up? People with points and approaching a ban (especially if their job may be affected) tend to be (IMHO) more observant of speed limits
  13. I had this sort of problem with my MK3 shortly after buying in Feb this year. Gave the dealer a quick call and he suggested it may be some sort of obstruction (possibly treesap due to wher ethe car had been parked) in the rubber seal and to try cleaning it then squirting with WD40. Fixed the problem for me
  14. Already answered that question earlier 😛
  15. The Superb is the only car I've driven recently where the Stop-Start doesn't annoy me, normally I have automatically reached down and turn it off after starting
  16. If you have the money (faux leather is around £1900 inc all fittings) apparently a MultiMac 1260 4 seater (15 months to 12 years) will fit the rear of a Superb (there's a 3 seater as well at around £1800) https://www.multimac.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nioh4UcC6ro&t=1s
  17. there are 3 things that immediately strike me about the Tesla "semi" 1) It looks very American (no surprises) 2) there doesn't appear to be any cab accomodation for sleepovers 3) they've stuck with traditional wing mirrors (I believe many Euro trucks are switching to cameras for higher aerodynamic efficiency) I do like the central driving position though and that's something that would probably be more useful over this side of the pond. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf7irdXn7xA&t=743s
  18. Nope , I fully understand that geographically we remain as part of Northern Europe (although not on the European mainland) but when it comes to Trade & Commerce (which I believe is the context when talking about someone like Porsches commercial activities ) then we are no longer in Kansas Europe
  19. latterly Robin Hood Airport AKA Doncaster Sheffield Airport, now defunct
  20. But it's not though. There was a little thing a few years back called "Brexit" ;o)
  21. statically there is also XM603 at Woodford which is in all white. Don't know how up to date this list is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surviving_Avro_Vulcans
  22. ah the Victors (maybe I'm biased as I worked on them but I think they were the best looking of the V Bombers) were painted all white at some early stage Also I think the last RAF aircraft with a bomb aimers position in the nose
  23. ah Operation Black Buck they switched to a Black Belly,
  24. yup, originally they were all white anti flash (along with the Valiant, I don't think the Victor was ever all white) but for the rest of the time in service they had a white/pale grey belly and camouflage on top. The only reason they painted display aircraft camouflage on the belly was to make it more visible against a grey sky (which is why the belly was the colour it was) when we moved from High level to low level attack vectors
  25. I assisted in salvaging useful equipment from these at RAF St Athan back in the early 80s Wonder how many people who see this fine beast realise that the colour scheme is not operationally accurate as in service it was never camouflaged on the underside
