  1. Updated fag packet maths (NB would also make Petrol at the pump VAT free in my scenario)
  2. Charge Car owners say 9.68p per mile Either have a big brother phone home tracking system mandated or legislate cars go in annually to a certified location (such as an MOT station) have mileage checked/verified. Increase the fines for clocking and also increase the diligence of checking for clocking at the annual check (which would be a general benefit) Why 9.68p per mile? That's from some creative back of the fag packet maths based on a car doing 40mpg NB this would be to replace Fuel Duty not to supplement it and then apply to all vehicles including EVs
  3. email your Vehicle reg & vin to [email protected] and ask them for a printout. Takes them 2-3 days
  4. All they need to do is introduce a mileage tax regardless of power train
  5. any replacement for fossil fuel powered cars should not be reliant on the ability of users to "refuel" at home especially given the majority of people (in many countries not just the UK) do not have dedicated off road parking for their vehicles at home.
  6. remind me again, why do people do this to themselves. Im mean sure, EV technology is there and could be an alternative for some in some scenarios but if the Government wasn't pushing it via legislation would it really survive on its own merits?
  7. I get this (and the associated orange triangle of impending doom) on a semi frequent basis (NB the light by the SOS call remains green which to my mind says that even though it may have had a transient issue at initialisation that the system is still working, I believe the light goes red if a hard fault) and it just clears itself when it feels like it.
  8. acknowledged that the OPs is a 2.0TDi but I fairly recently bought a 1.4TSi Superb3 with 126k on the clock and no cambelt done. As confirmed by Skoda the interval on that is 15 years/180k miles which given I only do between 5-10k per year means I will most likely have sold it before the next change due. Would I change it before selling ? All depends. If I did then the asking price would probably go up. Would it really affect the asking price if not done or would it simply make it more sellable ?
  9. TBH even if someone has replied using a quote unless they have specifically @ me then I work on the presumption that any question is "open to the audience" But maybe that's just an @ me thing ;o)
  10. I wouldn't call my SUperb loud although there is some wind noise noticeable (slightly more so on the front passenger side) but its not that bad
  11. It's only £40 direct from Apple lol https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/HPBJ2ZM/A/belkin-car-vent-mount-pro-with-magsafe
  12. Guess they should be really/maybe ???. WOnder how many actually do though? https://www.gov.uk/trade-licence-plates Trade licence plates are number plates you can use on vehicles your business has for things like selling, repairing or testing. If you display trade licence plates on any vehicle, your employees and customers can drive the vehicle for certain purposes without having to pay to register and tax it. For example, if you sell cars, you can use trade licence plates to allow your customers to test drive vehicles on a road. Interestingly when I bought my Superb it's the first time ever I've taken a test drive (in a dealers car) which had trade plates supplied Also https://www.blueschoolofmotoring.com/blog/2021/03/19/trade-number-plate-laws-in-the-uk/ Trade number plates are still required by those in the motor trade driving a vehicle on public roads even when a vehicle is already registered, taxed and insured by its owner. The trade plates can indicate that the vehicle is being driven by someone other than the registered keeper, and they mean the driver is complying with the trade number plate licence holder’s trade insurance.
  13. Here's a thought. If a dealer/garage etc is performing road tests should they actually be displaying trade plates?
  14. “traders have a responsibility of care under the Consumer Rights Act 2015”. The garage might have a sign on their premises saying that they’re not responsible for any damage - this can be considered an ‘unfair term’, which means they’re still liable https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/buying-or-repairing-a-car/problems-with-a-car-repair/ Under the section "If the garage damaged your car" To my mind that's reasonably clear cut, any damage caused is the dealers responsibility and its up to them to argue with any insurance company they may use to cover their "duty of care" obligations
  15. Has anyone tried seeing iif ACC works when you're in reverse after all its doesn't explicitly say " do not use in reverse" ;o) /me grabs my coat and goes to dry a poodle in a microwave
  16. a lot of car places buy the cheapest available connection for all their needs (I work for an ISP doing stuff with network inventory,/asset data and the circuits customers buy and the bandwidth etc etc) and it wouldn't surprise me they have in adequate connections. Then again if they had decent IT departments they would set up local caching so they didnt have to download the same file from the depths of the internet time after time. ALso why are they doing OTA updates if the cars in with them, stick the updates on a USB file you muppets!!!
  17. can I just point out that the concept of a central dash/infotainment system is nothing new not is the idea of having nothing in front of the driver (ala Tesla not the above pic)
  18. after that then, unless anyone else has any bright ideas, you may be looking at needing to use a code reader & take it from there. That's the basics of a hard on warning covered ie front sensor cleaned, brake lights checked, not accidentally disabled in settings.
  19. and all the brake lights are working? (apparently it's disabled automatically if one is out)
  20. silly thought, you havent been fiddling n the settings and accidentally disabled it have you? (including the button on the RH side top of the steering wheel)
  21. is it a permanent warning or just occasionally?
  22. according to the hand book (for the Superb although I would have thought the Octavia is the same) the answer is yes & no
