  1. but surely our caring sharing government would make it a legal requirement if it was safer wouldn't they ? Or are summer tyres just as good in a UK winter than winter or all season tyres? Isn't the MOT a "safety" check ;o)
  2. Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Why shouldn't EV owners pay the same sort of taxes as ICE owners rather than being given "concessions" ? You drive 10k miles PA then you pay more tax than someone doing 5k miles. Take the motive power out of it. Seems fair enough to me
  3. unless the government (or more accurately the civil servants running the show in reality) move the goalposts again ;o)
  4. curious as to which markets and trim levels got the 3x Isofix
  5. #thinkingoutloud should a car fail an MOT if fitted with "summer" tyres and then presented for test on a dark cold snowy day on the basis that they are not suitable? answers on a postcard to the usual location
  6. @Nexus21 no offence but I'm now confused(doesn't take much lol). Does your car have indirect TPMS (which apparently uses the ABS speed sensors) or does it have TPMS monitors in the tyres (which are totally separate from the ABS)? You mentioned the head unit was upgraded, maybe the cars confused if it is actually an Indirect TPMS Car but with a HU that's expecting Direct TPMS? There definitely no button like this hiding inside the glovebox or on centre console??
  7. @Nexus21 Have you pressed the TPMS reset button? Apparently this is a thing , who knew ;o) Turn the ignition to the ON position (making sure the engine is off) Press the TPMS reset button found in the glove box or centre console, until you hear an audible "chime". Then, all you need to do is drive the vehicle and it will complete the relearn https://www.hometyre.co.uk/mobile-tyre-fitting/mobile-tyre-fitting-gatwick/blog/tpms-light-reset-on-a-skoda-octavia-tyre-pressure-light-skoda/
  8. would a TPMS warning even be an MOT fail ???. And it's not as though you can just pull the fuse without disabling other stuff (although I suppose you could maybe pull it, start|shortdrive|stop| reinsert it and see if that gives it a kick) NB no expert , just thinking out loud
  9. well yes and no. Tanks can (with adjustment) can run on petrol, diesel or jet fuel You don't see many EV tanks ;o)
  10. I have corrected it now, ta
  11. My 1.4TSI ACT SUperb pops up a message saying something like "2 cylinder mode active"
  12. comment noted on the A Pillar trim removal for when I fit mine. FYI intend following this chaps guide (for reversing cam currently on it's way from China) for routing the rear dash cam module https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPoqq5Pqf-Y
  13. a remake of Mad Max with EVs just wouldn't be the same ;o)
  14. even better you can(if you really need too) use the starting handle with the engine in first gear (and ignition off) to wind yourself out of trouble .
  15. The best (non 4WD) vehicle I've ever owned for use in snow was the Citroen 2CV. Nice skinny tyres that cut through it nicely And of course Air cooled so no danger of the radiator fteezing ;o)
  16. I find it interesting how many people here(UK based) seem to be running Winter/Summer tyres/wheels. Not something I've ever thought of doing in my 40 odd years of motoring even though the whole of the UK is further North than a lot of people think (Vancouver sits at 48° 32' 17.33" N , Moscow at 55° 45' 3.59" N whilst Lands End is at 50° 04' 4.20" N and John o'Groats is 58° 38′ 14″ N,). Ok I get that on the whole we have a fairly temperate climate due the Gulf Stream and with a few exceptions (BTW well done to Scotland in the Calcutta Cup yesterday) there are few places in the UK that have bad enough weather for long enough (IMHO) to warrant regular usage of "specialist" tyres.
  17. apologies, that was a tongue in cheek comment. I did understand what you originally wrote. I was merely pondering outwardly
  18. cheers so no option to add them as an infotainment option without a button? shame as the settings are obviously there ;o)
  19. @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits Is the above observation/query something you may know about please?
  20. Most of the Kia/Hyundai range (certainly my MY17 Ceed that I've just sold) have a switch in the (easily accessible by your right knee ) cabin fusebox that turns off the power to the: radio clock power seats windows smart key to help prevent current drain over longer periods. Only downside is you have to use your manual key to get back in (there is a delay after exiting where the smart key still works) https://www.youcanic.com/switch-inside-fuse-box-a-kia-hyundai/
  21. actually there is one observation I meant to make after taking a ferret around in the settings. I notice that under the ACC options you can configure it for Comfort|Normal|Eco|Sports however the car doesn't have a mode selector to switch between these in "non acc" driving. Is it possible to add the switch or would it likely also need wiring loom and coding??
  22. picked up a 2018 SE with a 1.4TSI Auto today, what a nice car on the motorway Ok so doesn't have all the toys but who cares ;o) new mats & bootliner on order along with a SINOSMART reverse cam which will get fitted once I get back from Scotland first week in march (presuming its come in from China by then) along with my dashcam (although I may do the front one this weekend and leave the rear until i get the reverse cam). Also ordered some black badges to replace the chrome ones, no particular reason lol Will also need to sort out a dog guard & luggage divider sometime, quite like this travall setup. Anyways odd how the perspective makes it look small compared to the GFs Ioniq!!
  23. Miller Cycle. That's a new one on me ;o) Anyways interesting comment on the Wiki page about it: Typically, this loss of charge air would result in a loss of power. However, in the Miller cycle, this is compensated for by the use of a supercharger. The supercharger typically will need to be of the positive-displacement (Roots or screw) type due to its ability to produce boost at relatively low engine speeds. Otherwise, low-speed power will suffer. Alternatively, a turbocharger can be used for greater efficiency, if low-speed operation is not required, or supplemented with electric motors.
  24. I think you may be missing a button (and wiring probably)
  25. can I just point out the irony of discussing "green" EVs whilst being parked up watching hundreds of KG of avtur or avgas being burnt off ;o)
