  1. Very honest summary, then yes, perhaps you might be coming towards the end of its useful journey with you. I know we can get passionate, but there is nothing worse than to cling to something "just because" and fail to reason there are other ways to do things out there. After all, is just a car .... I've spent many an year troubling myself chasing ways to prolong the inevitable, car-wise. Wasted money, wasted time...
  2. I've been thinking about creating a topic to narrate epic tales of large/awkward loads carried by our "superb" vehicles. This must be in it!
  3. I agree with all the points above....but there will be cars available for some years ahead still! As MASH13 above, I also hope this one will be able to 'ferry' myself & family until the time I can still drive but no longer need neither large space/long trip capability, and then downsize to a nice little open top, finally ... ☺️
  4. Thanks for the heads' up! I will keep in mind when the time comes πŸ˜‰
  5. I would downsize to 18s or 17s, actually I am on winter 17s now and while much more comfortable, there is a more "boaty" feel compared with the 19s. I will settle on 18s for next season summer ones.
  6. I was annoyed by the 'auto wake up' feature, which caused constant rattling and scraping, especially after putting the mudflaps. I disabled it but do not remember if by VCDS or in the menus. I recommend it!
  7. Nice suggestions ... I'd say also window and rear blinds if your not with tinted windows, I like the "metal type" pedals, sunglasses' holder, a bumper protector ...
  8. Uh, I got lost ... are you now on 5W30 or 5W40 then πŸ€ͺ Service just changed with the Castrol Edge LF in 5W30 but I plan to switch to "fixed intervals" and run a more performance oriented lubricant. Planning a remap as well.
  9. Well, you made your decision and enjoy the car as it is. There are many out there happy anyway. However, being already at an important "cant" in your life - I am starting that decade soon - you might have wanted to have some fun as well ... never neglect yourself, if you can get away with it πŸ˜‰ I went for the 280 and I really do not regret it. About towing, there are many advantages of AWD vs FWD, more than just wheelspin on loose surfaces ... having more weight in the rear because of the drivetrain balances the towing car better, releases partially effort on the steering reducing possibility of excessive manouvers, more traction implies - not always, depends of "the touch" - less revving in general which means more balanced manouvering, reversing, start up, and so on. Now on small light loads it might not be felt, but I have noticed anything above a ton, ton something, towing is more adequate with an AWD than not with only two wheels....
  10. The sunglassess' holder is shown in the drawing above, position "D", flip it down to see it, BUT if your car has the sunroof, there you have the controls for the roof, which means you have NO sunglassess' holder!! However, there is an aftermarket solution which I adopted, thanks to a topic opened by fergard in the guides' section, here it is: Problem solved!! πŸ˜‰
  11. Very nice stuff in this topic, kudos to all, this is golden stuff! I agree with all the above specially the letargic DSG mapping ... I was led to believe it was the throttle, but after the 'linear response' coding, it got much much better. The DSG response time is the problem. TVS has a dealer in my country so I think sometime in the spring a remap might be in order .... engine might as well 😁
  12. Is this also a TSI known issue, or only affected TDI engines?
  13. It would be interesting to see if we retrofit a sensor if it works. I think we must look for a very early model? i got another one: I drove recently a GL, and the parking areaview cameras when, manouvering, in reverse it shows the rear camera in the display, when you go forward it switches automatically to the front camera: how cool is that!? I have to do that manually .... also the front view is "straight", while in the Superb is a .... complex affair, seems you are looking through the eyes of an insect πŸ™„ Any chance this automatic switch could be coded? Apertureeeeeeee 😁 Then, any chance the extremely annoying BONG at every message - say for example low outside temp - could be reduced drastically in volume? I have often very nosy passengers and this only stresses them, which in turn, they stress me ... πŸ˜„
  14. As the two fellas mentioned above, my changed setting has removed the "auto speed" when PCC is on. On a longer trip, the results are: Tear Drop Wipe For Front Wipers - not observed ... maybe it did not work Smoth Dimming / Brightening Internal Light - I forgot to check πŸ€ͺ add Simple Cruise Control - I forgot to check πŸ€ͺ ICE Warning threshold - works perfectly Throttle response - works, much better responde, now that I took out the pedal box, will say why elsewhere. The SRA activated on long pull of the washer stalk, as indicated above - works perfectly.
  15. What a nice topic this has turned out to be, great input and stories ... very informative πŸ˜‰
  16. The manouver braking has saved my rear bumper couple times, and only for this, is worth having. Yes, is also a nuisance because I am currently using a very very tight garage for which I need several manouvers with very limited space around, and the system does intervene more often than I would like. Then again, I have been parking almost daily there since years with only a scuff to a bumper and a mirror (not in the Superb), but the system designer does not know that .... 😝
  17. I do this often, especially when driving more sporty in fast moving traffic - before you go haywire, remember we not all live in civilized places like you in the Island - keep the cruise on, but give it a bit more gas, keeping it on the edge. "It" brakes to keep or regain the distance, "I" give gas to shorten the gap or be ready to sprint forward. Is an interesting tug of war, and I've noticed there is a sweet spot where the braking effect is nil, especially when I telegraph the throttle - probabily system reacts to he cut off and delays brake intervention - and driving is hassle free, but retaining the benefit of the assist systems. Obviously, sometimes I misjudge the timing and I get a ping and a "BRAKE" for my trouble 😜 In that moment I feel I missed that sweet spot and need to be more precise, because the automated system is really ... precise.
  18. Wait, I think the topic is mixing more factors, and it would be good to split them apart. One thing is the fact that out could happen that the system, in our view, "overreacts" because of liability compromises of the manufacturer. It cannot be overriden, and it cannot be disabled or eliminated. We just need to "adapt" to it .... If someone does not want it, then must buy a different car that either A does NOT have such assist systems or B a different manufacturer with a criterion more adequate to a particular diving style. I have in my stable vehicles far less efficient in overall braking scheme than the Superb, and everything has its pluses and minuses. This said, what JR suggests above is gold - it was one of the first things I've done, remove the undertaking prevention, because even without it there is sufficient margin to drive within normal limits. Another thing was to disable "prediction speed limitation" which in my FL has removed the bothering "bend ahead" braking. True this works only with ACC/PCC on, but nevertheless... I did the same adjusting all parameters to "minimal/aggressive" and the car is not invasive in its assistance. BUT it does obviously react in some situations with pings and bong and "BRAKE" announcements ... is part of the game. Again, my older cars do not have it, matter of choice. However, regardless of who activates the braking, being the driver OR the automated braking system, for the ABS to intervene it means not only that there was excessive braking force, but also grip on the tires has reached its limit triggering the intervention. This is worth investigating separately of the above. I've had a few "excessive braking" events from the car assist systems, but never enough to trigger ABS intervention. On my own, sometimes stupid, driving and braking "unassisted", I rarely ended up triggering ABS ... most cases recently are on one of the runabout, an old Micra, with old tires. I would check how to split the problem in parts, starting by limiting its intervention as described above by JR, and then "test" to see if there is a problem elsewhere and an "oversensitive" ABS needs to be inspected.
  19. Not saying it could be a reason, but when I put the soundprofing on my Range Rover I would not be able to fold the seats upright afterwards, the "extra" would mess with the latch and it would not let me do it. I solved the issue by pressing with my hand as I pull the lever. Do you remember if you problem was existing before the soundproofing?
  20. On Audis with the same system, the nozzle is "extended" by pressure, which means there are no mechnical locks in place. The way we would work, say prep the car for paint, is to gently pull the nozzle out, you can do it manually, until is sufficiently out to grab it and, usually the cover is clipped in place. Once the cover 'clicks' in place, slowly lower the nozzle to its rest position. The key is to do all movements gradually, if you rush you can break the clip on the cover or worse, as one of the fellas in the workshop did, broke the bracket holding the nozzle .... bumper down and finding a replacement was a pain. I recently took off my wife's Lexus bumper for paint and the procedure was the same, with the different it had a metal slider clip - clever. EDIT: I forgot, I;ve neever tried on the Superb, I have to go to the garage now and will attempt and re-post tonight, but on the other cars it was enough just to patiently use fingers/nails to "catch" the edge of the cover, and then start the pull ... lighty so. If you have weak fingers or bite your nails, or the cover is very flush, a trim removal tool - plastic one, of course - can do the trick!
  21. Wow compliments that is a dream job ... I just piled them up aside and hope to find time to do this before the are needed again 😜
  22. I've had this happening on other cars, petrol, mostly when driven by others in city/traffic at low rpms or driven like ... my parents, wife, and such. It should be some soot in the system, exhaust, and so ono, which you expel by giving it a go. Try to bury the throttle more often and see if it does it, and at least once in a while you should do a longer higher-load drive, does not hurt the mechanicals ... only the pocket 😜
  23. Came across this topic by chance, besides the argument lots of technical info, very interesting. I was hoping to find if someone else gets the feeling that Canton in the SIII is missing a bit of a 'punch'. I mean I am not saying I need a boooooming bass to give me stomachache, but both my previous cars - A6 C4 Avant with Bose and the RR P38 with Haman & KArdon - were a bit more "rich" in terms of the bass presence in the car. The Superb is surprisingly 'clear', but I feel leaves me somewhat empty. Might be just an impression, but is there anyway to make it enter more the scene other than the simple +/- levels in the audio setup display?
  24. This would explain the leftovers that look like is leaking ... great, thanks for the update! One problem less πŸ€ͺ
  25. Agree ... don't give in 😁
