  1. Lewis was the last stop on our Hebridean holiday before heading back south. I'm sure you'll recognise this place. We had a great time ... ... apart from the ten hours sitting on the quayside at Stornoway waiting for CalMac to fix the ferry :thumbdwn: (although the convoy out of Ullapool at 1am was fun) And I now know what "Leodhasach" means
  2. Planning to join as I already have a team for my work league. Still two weeks to go before the season starts and I've changed my team five times already! EDIT: Have now joined - go Huckerby Quakes!
  3. Your turn to post the next one then Simeon - and give someone else a chance of winning Mike
  4. I bought a Zanussi washer dryer in 1988 and got 20 years service out of it without any repairs - replaced with another Zanussi last year. Good mid price option if you'd prefer to spend the extra for a Bosch, Miele, AEG etc. on your car!
  5. I thought you might be an expat Brit - that's why I wrote "Canadian resident" I've decided that there is a prize after all - the winner gets to post the next one up! Doesn't have to be off satnav and UK or worldwide is fine.
  6. You've got it - its the causeway linking the islands of Barra and Vatersay. Built in 1990 apparently - I didn't think V3 maps was that out of date! The ferry link on the sat nav is from Oban to Castlebay. No prize I'm afraid, just the kudos of a Canadian resident beating the locals. That's quite appropriate as our trip was partly inspired by ferry hopping around Vancouver Island last summer. Very near miss - you're one island out. We took the ferry from the north side of Barra to Eriskay and drove over the causeway to South Uist. Can anyone post another one of these to keep the thread going?
  7. Would that be the original or the Blue Peter version?
  8. gcr31463 and slider are both on the right track with a causeway, but where? There are clues in the photo
  9. My Columbus once told me I was in France when the car was on the drive at home! But on this occasion it was working perfectly
  10. Well yes, but not the answer I was looking for
  11. Time travel: no - unfortunately I didn't spec the flux capacitor option in the brochure On the beach with the tide out: no, but warmish
  12. Can you work out where this picture was taken? A few clues: 1. I was in the UK 2. I don't have an amphibious Octavia  3. I was not on a ferry or a bridge
  13. Thanks for sharing the pics Bryan. Seeing these has reminded me to download mine tonight. I'll post a few if they are any good. Even without the Vulcan we enjoyed the show on Sunday. SWMBO says she wants her own Apache - not sure what she's planning to use it for!
  14. Date and time are good for me. 1. Stug71 2. dm_19vrs 3. *tim* 4. Mercurio
  15. Well I now have my Bluefin remap and accepted the quote from Adrian Flux. If anyone else is thinking about a remap, do it when your insurance is due and avoid getting stung by your existing insurer.
  16. I have my Dad's old Mountfield petrol mower. Must be at least 20 years old. Makes a lot of noise but still cuts beautifully.
  17. I bought a petrol vRS after test driving a MkV Golf GTI Edition 30. The GTI interior might have looked a bit nicer but you can't really say the build quality is any better. For everyday use I preferred the vRS ride and handling. Was changing from an Accord hatch, so the luggage space in the Golf looked tiny. As I've said before on here, decided that the vRS was more car for less money. EDIT: Budget not an issue - would have paid the extra for the GTI if I thought it was worth the money.
  18. They certainly do As the owner of a silver car I wish I hadn't seen this thread
  19. I've just pre-ordered the new Daughtry album - Leave This Town. If its anything like as good as the debut album it will be getting a lot of play in the car. This is great driving rock from a band who are still not very well known in the UK.
  20. When leaving home to travel to Winchester last weekend I entered our destination into the Columbus and was surprised to hear a voice telling me that our journey would involve a ferry crossing! When the map display came up it showed our location as somewhere in France, a mere 746 miles from Winchester. After pressing a few buttons I found that the unit could only see two satellites, and as soon as I pulled out of the driveway we found ourselves back in Norfolk. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
  21. I'm not 100% convinced, but thinking minor hit rather than near miss. Getting a real shine on those wheels and another pic taken in the right lighting conditions might just do it.
  22. There's a thread here on remapping a 1.9TDI that should help you. http://briskoda.net/maintenance-performance/can-105bhp-1-9td-chipped/145722/ But as a vRS (Octavia) owner I can't believe you let the wife talk you out of one because she didn't like the colour!
