  1. You don't need to reset the unit....fgs. Push "click" the right hand scroll wheel brings up a menu with driving data, radio, nav etc. Use the scroll wheel to move up or down to move off the NAV option, Push "click" the scroll wheel to select the more appropriate option you want. The compass appears if you are on the Sat Nav option in the list when no destination is being navigated to. In "driving data" menu, use the scroll wheel up or down to scroll to other displays, i.e average mpg, distance. Kr.
  2. Refilling of coolant system is best done under vacuum, where the system is pulled down under vacuum and the new coolant is sucked in from the container. Additionally my indie who I only trust my car with, told me after they changed the heater matrix, using their diagnostic software the coolant pump is set to cycle automatically in order to purge out air for 150miles. They use ODIS which is main dealer VW group software for diagnostics. I am sure that garages with suitable diagnostics, Launch, Topdon etc have the ability to enduce this too. KR.
  3. On any TDi check check coolant expansion colour (should be bright pink). Look for any signs of any debris in the tank. VW used a bag of silica beads in the expansion tank to "prolong" coolant life. The bags split and blocks the heater matrix. It's well documented on here. You get cold air on the drivers side and warm on passenger side. Expansion tank has the word MIT SILIKAT on the outside. It can be replaced with one without the silica bag. My blocked heater matrix for this issue cost me £600 to replace and flush the whole coolant system out twice. Mostly labour. DSG is very good to drive. servicing every 40k miles is circa £2-300. Oil and filter change.
  4. @aidy55 it was when I had my timing belt /water pump changed that my heater matrix blocked. It probably disturbed loose silica. Garage tried to flush cooling system to little avail. I lived with a freezing right hand for three winters....😆 I finally swallowed the cost last October for replacement matrix. Winter was much more comfortable!!
  5. Agree this fault merely displays on the dash matrix screen not dash warning symbols that are orange or red. Those get illuminated when you start the car and then extinguish if no fault is present.
  6. Dsg service in 150 or 184 every 40k miles. Quite pricey now used to be around £180 -200 thinks it about £250+ these days. Quite a good gearbox if oil is changed regularly. Cambelt at 75k miles. That year will have MIB1 or Columbus infotainment system, you won't get apple carplay or android auto on that. Probably won't see any nav map updates now for that either. Screens can get faulty on those too. My 2016 2.0 TDI has 106kmiles on it. Serviced every 10k oil and filter and then every two years brake fluid and fuel filter and air every 30k. Other than flipping heater matrix block (common issue ) no other faults to date. Does a dpf regen every tank without fail I do 1000 miles a month. Interior holding up well, no rattles or other concerns .. Find a well serviced one. Should be ok. Boot space is brilliant swallows up loads. I have sought after second boot floor, well worth it.
  7. good to see a positive outcome for you and parts at decent cost. My indy charged £68 labour (and £45 for parts for three glowplugs.
  8. I believe you need to look at the pipework at the matrix to determine which one you have. You can see they have different inlet and outlet positions. I also believe that you must replace the clamps for the pipe fittings they are not reusable.
  9. Just had my matrix replaced on my 2016 2.0 TDI as was blocked. £600 at my indy. Matrix was £200 alone, coolant flushed and they used vacuum to refill the coolant. It needs diagnostics to ensure bleeding of all three coolant circuits is done fully to remove all air. The auxiliary pump runs on for 150miles after diagnostics sets bleeding function even if car is turned off it's still remember what miles it's done. Happy to say car is warm now. Lived with it for three years having no heat from drivers side...
  10. Just a thought, I just had a glow plug (cylinder 3) go on my 2.0 TDI, my independent VW specialist recommended replacement of the other two. (You might already know that one cylinder has a special pressure sensor/glow plug which is much more expensive). Wouldn't it be more economical to ship three if they are beginning to fail?
  11. slightly more torque it what it feels like.
  12. Noticeable "more guts" when my 2.0 TDI does a regen. Very normal behaviour, becomes more sedated once finished, (unless I stomp on the go pedal😄).
  13. @J.R.To add, don't forget that as your VCDS is genuine it's fully supported and is continuously developed behind the scenes by Ross-Tech.
  14. The VW group main dealer diagnostics is called ODIS. Independent garages can purchase it on a subscription.
  15. If want only VW then VCDS 3 vin would be £222 from UK distributor (3 Vin means you can use it fully on only three vehicles but will still allow you to do simple fault codes reads unlimited , you may think that's expensive, but I would point out main dealer will charge ~£120 to fault code read, then for every half hour on from that, about the same. Independent garages will vary in price, but probably a minimum of ~£40-60 as a "labour" charge. They have brand wide diagnostics and will likely to need subscription based systems depending on how deep they will do investigations which can ultimately get quite complicated to fault find. I have had VCDS for over 15 years, since 2019 upgraded to newest Hex V2 to deal with my current car, software updates are free once purchased so no subscription, its a powerful tool with ability to code modules measure live data from every sensor in the car. Its worth the investment
  16. Fwiw, I have a blocked heater matrix. I've lived with it for a while now (3 years😆) but my garage is replacing it next week for ~£600 including two coolant flushes. They will vacuum fill and use their diagnostics to operate the coolant circuits. (They have Odis VW main dealer system). I have a slight level loss in the expansion tank over many months. Removal of the expansion tank cap when it's cold it makes a slight hiss. It's under a little vacuum as mentioned which is normal.

  18. https://www.carshades.co.uk/information/why-choose-car-shades/ I have these in my estate (full set, but I don't always have the rear shades window in). They are very good quality IMO. I like the ease of fitting and can whip them in and out as required. No suckers that just fall off the glass like cheap alternatives. Tinting is notifiable to your insurance company if not factory installed
  19. My 2016 2.0 TDI oil level drops to just above the middle of the dipstick after around 10k miles. Quantum oil is the VW brand oil, but as long as it meets the spec it will be ok. VW 507 00 is the spec you need, this long life oil can be used under long life service regime or fixed interval (10k).
  20. +2 for Michelin cross climates, I am on my second set of them. Very good grip throughout all the seasons. I live on the south coast as does the OP and don't regret getting "snow capable" tyres despite the climate down here. They were superb in the last two very wet winters and I drive a lot of very rural roads. I have 16inch rims and they work out around £110 per corner. Some deals pop up for slightly. They lasted very well and got around 30k miles out of the fronts before replacement required and ~43k on the rears.
  21. as @Cakemonster mentions, fuel consumption reduces significantly with a box on the roof. I tend to drop my speed somewhat on the motorway journeys and drive for economy. Also, once at my holiday location, I remove the box (provided I can an store it safely) as once unloaded its not needed travelling around between place. The Roof Box company are excellent to deal with, and have very good products to suit all budgets.
  22. I have: Thule Wing Bars. I can vouch that they are very quiet as aerodynamic. Roof box: Kamei Delphin 340 box with - T Track fitting. This allows the box to slide on and off the roof bars really easily as they have a slot down the middle. It's a good sized box with the estate for my family of four. https://www.roofbox.co.uk/roof-boxes/kamei-roof-boxes.php?srsltid=AfmBOoqnDAIC4X0vmgM1TcjMa7-U_kqrTtQxBczWS3X3ZaV2_5qMEg9z
  23. The tyre info is a sticker on the fuel flap not part of the scraper. Just slide the scraper up from the flap and you'll see it's just behind. I would add that it's actually a very good scraper, it really cuts across the glass cleanly, unlike cheap horrible ones you buy for £1 with the spongy bit on the back. BR
  24. If you pull the green plastic bit up from fuel filler cap, it's an ICE scraper. 😀 It's very handy not having to rummage in the house for one when the frosts set in!!
