  1. A simple physical cutoff switch for an 800V DC running a hundred amps (DC being particularly nasty) - almost impossible. Not something you'd have in a cabin. Would have to be electronic, remotely controlled, maybe by software.....ermm....wait a minute.... It would possibly need to use a explosive device based like an airbag to ensure rapid contact seperation. Alternatively could be a clutch to disconnect the electric motor.
  2. The thing is, an automatic gearbox has its own control system, not the engine ecu. So yes an auto gearbox might feasibly fail in gear with the clutch/torque converter permanently engaged, but the engine being independent you can that turn off, release the throttle etc. 2 independent systems so a higher level of failsafe than an EV.
  3. The 1st thing I'd check would be arb drop links and then arb bushes. Drop links are difficult to test in situ by hand, they may feel solid bit still have wear/play, even a small amount can sound awful when driving. They are not expensive and are easy to change so maybe I'd try that. Or disconnect one end and check, if they are floppy/loose then time to change.
  4. At least ICE cars have a gearbox and some form of clutch plus usually independent control system from the engine. Possible to disconnect the engine from the drive train. The simplicity of an EV drive train has to rely on high reliability of its control system as the electric motor generally can't be disconnected from the wheels
  5. FFS .... my life stories and political injustice ranting. JUST GET BACK ON TOPIC!
  6. Police Officer: "Do you know you were doing 100mph, Sir?" Driver: "I don't know what got into the car, it wouldn't listen to me when I asked it to slow down, honest, officer"
  7. If there was an issue that left the car cruising at speed and unresponsive to throttle or other inputs then I doubt physical friction brakes would be able to overcome the max torque of the electric motor for long. You could have tens of kw available to the motor and the brakes wouldnt last too long before fading.
  8. This article describes the Jaguar I pace and MG incidents, apologies if not relevant to current discussion https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13165115/police-ram-faulty-electric-car-m62-emergency-incident.html
  9. Just rubbing it in @J.R. 😈🤣
  10. One day you'll have used up all your 9 lives. 🐈‍⬛
  11. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/electriccars/article-13159533/Mini-Countryman-Electric-review.html?ico=mol_mobile_money Considering that in the above article Ray Massey is a rather large overweight "motoring journalist" who often looks uncomfortably squeezed into even the largest cars and is rarely photographed in any anything smaller, I looked at the photo of him standing next to this latest "Mini" and thought how bloody large and bloated it's become. Mini by name but not by nature.
  12. Annoying thing for me is VAG is slowly ditching manual transmissions. You can't buy a new manual Superb now. DSG only.
  13. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/autonomy https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomy Initially, I thought Autonomy was a pet name for Bap33's car. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/cui-bono/202006/what-is-autonomy-and-why-is-it-so-difficult-achieve
  14. AI translation chatbots are useless
  15. Autonomy?
  16. but if we walk
  17. If I were younger I'd be whipping the wheels off, armed with silicone spray can and some penetrating oil and having a good look at the suspension. As it is now, I just ignore the creaks and squeaks at low speed on my Superb, maybe its a "Simply clever" feature to warn wildlife to get out of the way.
  18. Manual cars have "Drive Mode" (my superb has) I would have thought it was standard on a Monte Carlo According to the user manual its in your infotainment
  19. How about a few more superchargers on the Silk Road and the odd windmill, maybe that would be a greener way to get them here. They'd have to reset the odometers though that can be done at the factory
  20. Things will need recoding, immobiliser, radio, and probably much more.
  21. If he hasn't tried a replacement then I'm inclined to think he's just guessing.
  22. Did you put the battery in the right way round? + facing up Check the battery with a multimeter should be about 3.3 volts less than 3.0 volts is a dead battery
  23. Its only a recommendation, most people including me recognise gear change recommendations is hopelessly out on a lot of occasions and a lower or higher gear is more appropriate. It cannot see the road ahead or anticipate your next move. Use your head and gut feelings, ignore the recommendation if you think its wrong and drive in the gear you feel is best suited to your current situation. If you have a drive mode setting somewhere, change that and that should alter the recommendation thresholds. Don't waste £100 for a diagnostic that won't pick anything up. Maybe ask them to have a look when you have it serviced because a full diagnostic is done as part and parcel of the servicing.
  24. I've seen taillgate rust around the number plate lights a few times, usualy coming from the inside.
  25. Get it up on a ramp and check the condition of all suspension components, bushes, arb links, shock absorbers etc. Some hefty pushing and shoving might identify the squeaky bits. Might just need cleaning up and some silicone spray or penetrating oil applied here and there. Or some bushes or components need changing. A crowbar can be used to check play in bushes.
