Leaving an old iPhone in boot of Karoq as a cheap tracker
Surely the charge needed for the phone is negligible compared to other parts of the car electrics which are always live? Any car will go flat after a few weeks standing. As long as it is driven occasionally it should be fine. Bigger risk is surely that leaving a phone plugged charging with a dead battery in it may catch fire as the battery degrades and overheats trying to charge?

Use iPhone reliably as hotspot for car
And again today it fails to auto connect to phones hot spot- I might as well give up.

Use iPhone reliably as hotspot for car
Thanks Yes I was trying again last night and found an obscure box in menu which opened a connect option. Three choices no, ask and always. It was on ask and not connected automatically, I changed this to always and it connected. Hopefully will connect straight away next trip. Anyway I suspect I will go back to using Google maps on phone for journeys where there may be traffic issues when free Skoda connect month expires as I don’t seem to use much else so far…

Brake lights staying on in stop/start
I never use the electric handbrake manually, and car is always in drive for full journey. I will sometimes turn off auto hold in very heavy traffic so car starts to creep as soon as footbrake is released as makes for smoother progress, often with manual 1st selected so the car does not immediately go into D2 and go too fast at Rickover. I used to think about the brake lights being on all the time when stopped but stopped worrying about it years ago as this is now how modern autos are intended to work. The dsg clutches are automatically disengaged in Park, and when the footbrake, auto hold or electric handbrake are on in a Karoq, unlike previous Yeti with a manual handbrake where the handbrake could be applied when in drive and the clutch would have to slip to stop the engine stalling.

Use iPhone reliably as hotspot for car
Can anyone explain in simple english exactly how to set up and use my phone as a data hotspot source for the car? I have occasionally got it to work by fiddling with various iPhone and car settings, but invariably next time I start the engine to use the car the web connection symbol is red again. whatever I am doing to occasionally get a hotspot connection is not remembered by either the car or iPhone automatically and used again next time. I only ever got this to work reliably with a SIM card in the car, which is a MY20 vehicle. I had a sim card which theoretically had free new data every month after paying £10 for it but it only ever renewed by phoning and chasing 3 each month and I have given up with it. Paying a monthly fee for another data card doesn’t make sense if my phone can act as a hotspot correctly.

Roof bars/rack for Karoq
Should be able to sell them on easily to a Yeti owner if made by Skoda?

Karoq Time. Advice please.
Just a thought but for your budget you would find a near top of range 2017 Yeti, I loved these so much I had 3 over 10 years. Had to go to Karoq as Yeti discontinued I 2017 but still think the Karoq lacks something compared to the very different Yeti. If you do though look for an SEL 2017 runout model rather than an L&K as it avoids having a sunroof which often developed leaks.

Slight front disc corrosion. Big bill?
It’s a common con to catch out non mechanically minded owners. The discs can look bad so it is easy to convince owner to carry out unnecessary works. As long as the disc is still above the minimum thickness it is ok. Some serious braking quickly removes the rust stain on the area swept by the discs. A rusty edge may remain outside of the swept area. Of more concern is seized pads on rear of car on some models. Yetis were very prone to this as brakes on rear never used that hard.

Roof bars/rack for Karoq
My Yeti roof bars are not Thule and do not fit the Karoq as the roof rail is much thinner. Should really get them sold on!

LED Matrix Headlights query
You need to be able to select and override this option as required. eg it does not put on main beam at low speed but I often need it on on narrow country lanes so override to main beam on

Karoq 2022 software on an older model?
Personally of the 4 options I never use that one. The twin dial or expanded navigation panel and no dials are more use to me. On your example above you can change what is displayed either side via the options and the dial itself is only marginally different. Is it worth the risk of trying to upgrade/ change and it going wrong. The software in the latest cars seems very iffy to me?

Remote unlock/lock issue via my Skoda
I am so glad I bought an MY20 car! No software bugs at all, everything worked bar the SIM card I bought, but that wasn’t Skodas fault and I don’t need the car to be connected now. Only useful feature I don’t get is traffic live updates. More selection of engines, I could not now buy a 190 ps diesel 4x4, which is a really nice car to drive.

Build Times for new Karoq
It took me some time to get the virtual pedal to work consistently. You have to kick under the bumper to the centreline or left of that to have it sense your foot as the sensor appear to be on the right side looking left. If you have it take care as it can close the boot lid unexpectedly if your foot strays into the sensed area, eg like today when I was sitting on the bumper putting walking boots on and it suddenly started beeping and closing. I think it can be disabled in the menu as well if fitted.

Build Times for new Karoq
- Karoq 2022 software on an older model?
That’s more or less what my 20 reg Edition has. It was an extra on my car to replace the standard analogue dials. I can’t imagine it would be easy to change analogue to digital dash retrospectively.- Karoq on long journey with a six footer?
Small car?? Mine still feels big nearly 2 years into ownership after 10 years in Yeti’s. My 6ft 4” son fits fine on front or back and recently came with us on a 500 mile in total holiday week trip to Norfolk and back with no issues- Tyre pressures
60 psi, it’s written on the tyre and on the label on the fuel cap- Engine won’t turn over
There was a period of time when a lot of batteries were faulty from new. They never held a full charge. This affected Skoda, VW Audi Seat etc as all used the same. Some, like mine had to be changed within a week of delivering the car. Others held slightly more charge and didn’t reveal the fault for some time. Cars left standing unsold in 2020 due to Covid for several months was also an issue as if the battery goes completely flat and is left flat for a time it will not recover.- Is the 80 worth the extra over the 60
You can no longer get a government subsidy at £35k max, dropped to £30k so perhaps Skoda see no point in a slightly cheaper 60 model now as they don’t offer a car below that threshold.- Karoq on long journey with a six footer?
Everyone is different shape. I am 6ft but have short legs and long back. Seat squabs are too long and at the wrong angle for me if not electric (still too long though, don’t know how very short people fit!) Seat backs tend to change angle for shoulder and head area too low and fixed head rests as used in sports seats are too low. Karoq is not as bad as some for seat back length and headrest can go high enough as not fixed. looking back I could never sit in a bucket sports seat even though most liked them. Too narrow, and back wrong shape, Holes for seat belts would be well below my shoulders if I used competition 5 point harness.- Karoq on the autobahn
But probably not your true speed? You can use a speed app on your phone, held by a passenger, to record a true accurate speed. Mine is 74 at a true 70mph?- Karoq on long journey with a six footer?
I had electric seat option in last two Yetis, and is standard on my Karoq Edition spec. I find the seat squab angle is wrong on most standard seats and presses leading edge into my thighs. Electric seats allow squab angle to be altered and it transforms the seat comfort.- Leaving the bonnet unlatched for a while, can it be done without issues?
Ensure you read instructions and set it to the correct charge mode for your battery type and all will be fine. These can be set to charge any type of battery, including 6volt on mine. Once set it will stay that setting for next time- Leaving the bonnet unlatched for a while, can it be done without issues?
Modern charger can be left connected and will trickle charge to maintain battery as needed. During lockdown in 2020 I SORN’ed my Yeti for 3 months and left it with a charger connected , and the bonnet closed for most of this time. I have had periods with Karoq not used for a few weeks and left that on charge. There was space to fit the charger and the reel of my extension under the bonnet and close with the wire coming out at the headlight to connect to a socket.- DSG service confusion
So is the wet clutch dsg version now on a 80k interval instead of prior 40k, or is this a decision that a dry clutch gearbox actually needs an oil change at 80k rather than never needing one as was the case with petrol Yeti dsg’s? I believe my 190 tdi has a wet clutch gearbox, as I would not knowingly buy a dry clutch version with the certainty of eventual clutch replacement. - Karoq 2022 software on an older model?
