  1. Well if the “XC60 is like a smart phone only bigger” that’ll mean the XC60 will be knackered in 3 years with no battery life, like most smart phones. These Volvos won’t be like the Volvos of old lasting forever. Personally I think Volvo have lost the plot.
  2. Good to read all these positive Fabia posts! I had a Fabia SE estate with the 105 1.6CR TDi which I traded in for a crappy Polo. According to the MOT checker, my old Fabia is still going strong at 130k. Wish I’d kept it. Now going to keep my Octavia with similar engine.
  3. Personal loans from banks/building societies certainly have lower interest rates than many finance deals from dealers. All depends what you want from your car really. Mines all paid off via personal loan, cars giving me no issues, (touch wood), and plan to keep for another two years at least. I cant see the demand for petrol/diesel cars diminishing at a rapid rate, most cars where we live are 5+ years old and 95% of properties have no off road parking for home charging. I’d go to electric in the future, but have nowhere to charge it. At the moment.
  4. Rule of thumb seems to be when car is 5 years old with VAG in the UK. Plenty of threads about cambelt changes on here and costs etc, My Octavia is 5 years old in September and will be having the belt and water pump done when it is MOT`d.
  5. You`ve been watching too much "Line of Duty". Next you`ll be flashing your headlights like Steve Arnott does to Kate Fleming....
  6. Always handy to have a rear wiper, the water off the roof always runs down the rear screen at speed and the rear wiper clears it away. Of course a rear wiper is useful for clearing away bird poo and dust, much like the front wipers. I guess due to the aerodynamics of the new mkIV, Skoda decided that a rear wiper wasn`t entirely necessary. But Id have one....
  7. Welcome to Briskoda. Enjoy the Octavia, they are fine cars, whatever the model! And Suffolk is one of my favourite counties!
  8. Never considered servicing being undertaken at Kwik Fit as part of a fleet contract, Sasha. Make sense.
  9. The amount of visits to Kwik Fit is alarming! Need to see the car in the flesh really. Got any links to online advert so we can have a nosey?
  10. All these technical woes with Mk4s certainly seem to be concerning. Since the announcement of the New Octavia, I have always considered the Mk4 my next car. However reading all the threads regarding glitches with, overly complicated tech, I feel that keeping hold of my reliable 4 and half year old Octavia 3 might be a better course of action, for the time being.
  11. Hopefully that mock up shows conventional heating controls rather than a touch screen aka Octavia IV etc...
  12. Is there a maximum weight in your handbook? But 6 or 7 should be okay
  13. Other websites to waste plenty of time on are Cazoo and cinch. Plenty of good quality photos of the stock including any damage to the vehicles and tyres etc. Of course again, you can’t drive them, but show the service history. But it is surprising how many cars have odd tyres, 3 Michelin’s and a Goodyear or whatever. There is is so much choice you should be able to find exactly what you want.
  14. I am not keen on buying a car unseen either but can understand your predicament of needing to purchase a car. The cam belt change interval is an old chestnut on this forum, but it’s nornally at 5 years on Octavia. Octavia’s are solid built cars and I have had no significant issues with mine in 50000 miles. When looking at cars online, and I spend too much doing that, I always scrutinise the interior! If the interior looks good, the chances are it’s been good after well. That’s my theory anyway.
  15. Thought it looked rather good that Roomster too. I enjoy reading the sarcastic tongue in cheek articles but the comments can be a bit negative. Looked a good motor but definately needs a cambelt.
  16. I guess the LED interior light pack is could bean unnecessary indulgence? I have always spec’d up cars with useful stuff like fog lights, and boot liners!
  17. What’s the LED interior light pack like? I do night shifts so spend a fair amount driving in the dark...Matrix lights are too pricey.
  18. On a new car, id only for go options like a spare wheel, decent mats, boot mat and mudflaps. Oh and climate control. I love the climate on my Octavia but wouldnt want all the virtual cockpit tech of an SEL.
  19. Nice to see the love being felt for the quirky Roomster after so long. Skoda certainly knew how to build cars back in the early 2000s. I had a 2010 Fabia Estate TDi for 50000 miles and it’s still going strong according to the MOT checker at around 120K. Now got a Octavia III that is proving extremely reliable. Reading the Octavia IV forum, there isn’t much incentive to get a IV, although I probably will eventually! But in in the meantime, I feel that older cars like the Roomster have the upper hand in terms of reliability due to the lack of tech. Incidentally Skoda only has 5 Roomsters for sale nationally in their dealer network!
  20. What was wrong with the T-Roc out of interest? Apart from the obvious. Space.
  21. Certainly doesn’t sound right, how about a baffle going in the exhaust system? Can the sound be heard from the engine bay?
  22. Whilst nowhere near a VRS, my Octavia is of similar vintage and has given me no cause for concerns in 4 years with exception of fuel pressure sensors. Octavia of that age seem to be built like tanks and feel like it will last forever. Look after it, and it will give you no issues. Mine hasn’t. I can understand your trepidation at purchasing a car unseen in the “flesh”so to speak.
  23. M999AYF was registered on an Octavia VRS 4x4 TDI at end of January 2021, so must be a private plate. Probably someone in the emergency services. You need to find the original reg for the Octavia your interested in and look up on MOT checker on DVLA site
  24. Having read all the issues with the Mk4 Octavia with regards the software, it does make you wonder doesn’t it?I have had my mk3 for nearly 4 years now with no faults with exception of a fuel pressure sensor about a year ago. Currently i I have no real desire to change cars when you read all these issues with tech on new cars. Car manufacturers should build cars and leave tech to the likes of Apple. I mean why you need an app to tell you the doors are locked?
  25. A servicing dealer will be able print out a service history, I got a print out without requesting it last week when my Octavia was serviced.
