Sold my mk3 after almost 11 years
threadbear replied to DJD66's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Had my Octavia since February 2017 and 11 miles, now approaching 78000 and keep thinking about chopping it in but its been so reliable and again I don`t like all the modern stuff and big screens on cars nowadays. Driven Kamiq, new Octavia and Enjaq and Karoq as courtesy cars and none of them have wowed me enough to part ex. -
VAG CAMBELT REPLACEMENT INTERVAL CHANGE
threadbear replied to ACOUSTIC's topic in General Automotive Chat
I booked my Octavia for its MOT and annual service online and noticed on the menu that a cambelt and water pump replacement is now in the region of £823! Now when I had mine done a couple of years ago it was about £600. Now over two years that’s quite an increase even with cost of living inor is it because of longer replacement intervals with a potential loss of revenue due to less frequency of change? -
Strange noise from the suspension
threadbear replied to Rubaj's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Mine does that too, usually until everything warms up. Then stops. Seems weather dependant too. -
Looks the business. Cars do last well these days if they are regularly maintained and cleaned.

EV used car prices plummeting ,what's your experience?
threadbear replied to vrskeith's topic in Electric Vehicles
I think the EV market is nowhere as huge as it’s perceived to be, simply because such a large proportion of UK property have nowhere to charge EVs at home due to no off road parking. There are 17 houses in our road and no drives and surrounding roads are all similar and it’s the same in every town. -
What's your quick interior clean methods?!
threadbear replied to SkodaNewb's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I try to keep my car spotless! I use Autofinesse products, Total interior cleaner, Spritz and Dressle dressings and crystal glass cleaner along with microfibre clothes. I use a stiff brush to do the mats and carpets and occasionally a hoover. I park the car at work where I don’t take short cuts over grass! I also have to say, I rarely eat or drink in the car, kids have grown up or a dog anymore, and rarely go to the tip as we have a garden waste bin now. -
Service Plan offer - 25% off.
threadbear replied to kodiaqsportline's topic in General Automotive Chat
I`m currently nearing the end of a service plan and I cant purchase a new one until my current expires which is after the offer expires. -
I find car cleaning quite therapeutic, my Octavia hasn’t been washed for quite a while now but going to give it a good session tomorrow.

Maintenance list to keep car long time
threadbear replied to keepfor15's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
No mention of discs and pads being replaced in that 121000km? I am certainly considering keeping my Octavia long term having owned since February 2017 when it had 11 miles on it and now has approaching 65000. Regular servicing with new discs and pads, brake fluid change and cambelt and water pump change. Car still feels like new and feels like it’ll last forever. -
Wish i hadn't bought my MK4 Octavia and kept my karoq
threadbear replied to ry123's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk IV (2020 > )
All these woes with the Mk4 Octavia is one of the reasons I am keeping hold of my Mk3, which has been very reliable over 64000 miles. Recently had a Karoq Sportline as a courtesy car which was very nice but no way worth £33k. -
Suspension noise 2018 Octavia

Suspension noise 2018 Octavia
threadbear replied to Grc's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Mine creaks at the front over lowish speed undulations but not potholes when the car is cold, not so much when warm. Its been doing it for a long time. The rear suspension was worse and was greased up at a service and has been fine now for a good couple of years. Seems to a common characteristic of mk3 Octavias. -
Octavia Mk3 timing belt costs
threadbear replied to c_heesypease's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Had the cambelt and water pump changed in September 2021 on my 2016 1.6tdi and was charged £600 at Skoda in Canterbury where the car has always been serviced. Have to say the old belt looked brand new. -
I’ve not had any trouble with my 2016 Euro 6 Octavia with exception of fuel pressure sensor. If I was in your boots, I’d go with better the devil you know especially with the current cost of living crisis. Obviously if you Scout does throw a big bill, then you’ve got to look at it objectively. Mk3 Scouts do go for decent money.

Shocking prices. I work on the railway and my wife is retired nurse. Guess our net income is around £3100 a month so we’ll be using over 10% of our monthly income on energy. Glad we have nothing on finance and my Octavia is in for its service and MOT next month. Glad I’ve not got any car on finance right now and looking unlikely for the future.

I never took out an extended warranty on my Octavia after 3 years either. Car is now nearly 6 years old and has had no issues except a fuel pressure sensor at 36000 miles. Car has now 62000 miles. I save money in a “car account” for any eventualities outside of my servicing plan, rather than paying for an extended warranty for something that might happen.

Good luck with your Octavia. Interesting read. I have similar car on 62000 miles. Always good to read about owner experiences with same cars.

Good call about the DPF! Must be a Greenline if 1.6tdi 6 speed? -

if going for a diesel a 2 litre 150ps is a superior option and has a 6speed manual box, but more expensive. The 1.4Tsi is meant to be very good as well. Well mine is "just a car" but I look after it to the best of my ability because i want it to last. -

id go for one that has full service history and that is in good condition. Look for decent brands of tyre`s and an interior that has been well looked after. I have a 1.6TDI 110ps 5 speed manual. It have now done 62k on a 66 reg and do a similar mileage to you. The car has been extremely reliable only requiring a fuel pressure sensor at 36K. The only real downside of the 1.6TDi 5speed manual is that it is a bit noisy at time and could do with an another cog! But it bumbles along quite nicely at motorway speeds returning 60+ mpg. Should be a few around in your budget but maybe be a bit leggy so condition and fsh is key really. SE and above has climate which is a bonus! Had a quick look on Autotrader and your budget is in mostly mk2 money right now....certainly in my area. -
My Octavia`s suspension was creaking a couple of years ago and just got greased up at a service and was fine. Seems to have a tendency to dry out.
