  1. I need some P21W bulbs.......... I assume P21W bulbs are all the same fitment re pin location etc????????? I ask as I have purchased PY21W (Orange indicator) before from a particular seller on ebay (for ease) and I need some more of these for the rears but also as I was checking the type I noticed a slightly discoloured brake bulb and this needs replacing. It is broken now. Anyway, this seller says that their P21W (so brake, fog, tail, reverse) doesn't fit my vehicle https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Osram-P21W-382-21W-Ultra-Life-Auxiliary-Bulbs-3x-More-Lifetime-7506ULT-02B/311915970318?hash=item489fa3ff0e:g:DikAAOSwlZFaxini Will they fit or am I missing the reason???????? Cheers.
  2. Well luckily I already use a 9 speed chain as mentioned so this will not be an issue......... That could be the reason though if they are different thicknesses. I've ordered the inner 39T one now anyway, going to source a new cassette hopefully so to 11 / 28 and will see how that set up goes and will consider then if I still feel the need for a bigger outer. Most seem to think that it will all work fine, including in the linked article........ Cheers.
  3. Thanks for the replies guys.... It's the outer front ring (in the links I posted) that is described as 9 / 10 speed but not 8 speed.........I cannot see chain width affecting this. But the identical make middle ring IS described as 8 / 9 / 10 speed....... I could possibly understand chain width affecting this one. My thinking is if the identical make inner / middle ring is 8 speed compatible then the outer ring should also work fine..... I use a 9 speed chain on my 8 speed road bike also. At present it has the Compact set up 50 / 34 which is a little low geared for me so hoping to go to 52 or 53 / 39 somewhere Mid Compact to Standard set up. The 11 / 28 cassettes are a bit like rocking horse poop at the moment too, Lol. Cheers.
  4. Why would, or might a chainring that is described as 9 and 10 speed compatible, not be compatible with 8 speed??? https://www.wiggle.co.uk/ta-110-pcd-zephyr-outer-road-chainring-50-56t It has the same BCD / PCD circle diameter as mine. Cheers for any input. This is the identical but inner ring and is described as 8 speed compatible. https://www.wiggle.co.uk/ta-110-pcd-zephyr-inner-road-chainring
  5. Thanks @stratosg..... It doesn't lose connection after only a few moments though. It stays connected for possibly 10 minutes or thereabouts so I think it is the laptop turning it off still. I'm glad I still have this one to use.......
  6. Thanks for the info bud......... If they are at different frequencies would they even connect at all though ?????????? It does connect and it has done some updates successfully in the past months (probably had it about a year or so now)... but has dropped out on a number of occasions but the laptop power saving has obviously caused that at least some of the time. I will try next time I have both laptops switched on for info from the Win7 one. I will let you know more when I get the connection sorted. Hopefully, sorting the connection will also allow the updates to download properly. Fingers crossed. Cheers.
  7. Well, I'm gonna have to look into this a bit more................... not today though. I thought I had sorted it as had found and unchecked the (unnecessary IMO) check box and I'm sure I restarted the laptop too, and kept my fingers crossed, or maybe I should have kept them crossed. However, the updates still wouldn't complete the update and final nail in the coffin was the internet connection dropped out again . Thanks @stratosg. I will look into what you mention later. my dongle is 802.11 but not sure the GHz or where to find this out.
  8. Found it....... Windows 7 laptop and googly bailing out my windows 10. What a way to spend my bank holiday ffs. Hopefully it will update properly now and without wasting a lot of my data. I may need to upgrade my data allowance. it seems that Win10 likes a lot.
  9. Thanks @PetrolDave I am trying to check the power management as googly mentions it as a possible problem. Says 'Right click Network Adaptor / Properties / Power Management and then un-check "turn off WiFi Adaptor to save power". I cannot find anywhere on my laptop where this option comes up though. I have tried troubleshooting 'network and internet settings and also 'windows updates' without success. Unfortunately I have no idea what stratosg is mentioning above......... my ignorance. Cheers.
  10. Ever since purchasing my Win10 laptop it has been a bit of a pita............... (I'm guessing it's more to do with the set up???) Generally this (Win10) only gets used once a month (mainly banking) and so therefore updated only when I use it. Nearly every time trying to do the updates, for some reason it will not stay connected to my WiFi.It will connect but it keeps losing the connection. NB I have NO such issues with my WIN7 laptop or my phone connecting to MiFi, so thinking it is the WIN10 laptop settings............??? Any help (using simple instructions if possible) would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers.
  11. On this topic of rear discs If I do need to replace the discs, I believe I would need the wind back tool so is this LH or RH????? cannot remember how they work. Also would any adjustments need to be made to the handbrake or does the winding of the piston sort that automatically, (so to speak) ?????? Cheers.
  12. Thanks for all the replies guys.......... The carriers do look like the TRW as pictured above, however the discs could be removed without removing the carriers, thankfully............ as a few of you have said. I have bit the bullet and purchased new front discs........ Brembo........ I'm not a brake snob just that the cheaper ones were not available. Priced £82 (iirc) pair at ecp and I got them for £66.34 at cp4less inc del......... Pleased. (Not here yet tho.) GSF were trying to make out their std discs were £115 EACH, retail, discounted to £40 something each............ Lol. I may yet have to replace the rears but at least I have cleaned them up a bit. The car is still in pretty good nick but I think in reality is still not far from the scrapyard to be honest, so do not want to spend unnecessarily. Thanks again.
  13. @jars I've just put the wheel back on this morning bud............ for now....... At least I remembered to measure them tho only one size for rears I think. Cleaned my fronts up yesterday and was gonna do the rears but weather is not looking good. I may need new discs all round due to rusting but will see how the fronts go now I have cleaned them. I think you are correct and I may have even tried before, but many moons ago, so cannot remember for sure. Cheers.
  14. Anyone know (as certain as possible) if the rear discs can be removed without taking off the caliper carrier??????? 2006 (55) 1.9 Estate 253mm discs. And am I correct in assuming they will be M14 spline bolts on this age of vehicle??? Cheers.
  15. Thanks @Wino I best get on it then absolutely asap. Cheers.
  16. Does the mot check the thickness of the brake pads ????? It passed about 4 weeks ago and from a quick look the pads look quite reasonable. I was notified verbally of rust on the discs but also told that it was common at the moment due to so many cars being stood around. I know I need to look at mine anyway as they have started making quite a grinding noise, although they brake fine. I think it is the nsf making the noise. I will look at the earliest opportunity to strip and clean and also consider replacing but just wondered about the pads in the immediate meantime. Thanks.
  17. That is nice at circa £2k mike. Looks good. That is probably the most I would ideally want to pay.... I have just been asked if I want to up my hours from 20 to 30 during the summertime so I may be able to take the plunge sooner now, rather than waiting, as this also reasonably confirms that they intend to keep me on. That is if I can find one that I want, available. I think in a year or two there will be a flood of hardly used Pedelecs on ebay etc........ Would prefer to purchase new in case of any battery issues...... Thanks.
  18. But there are plenty of stupid people around.......... some stupid people film themselves speeding and then put t on the internet. I just couldn't understand why you would say saying something is stupid, when no=one has said what you think would be stupid to say. Why is my wish for e bikes to be allowed to be assisted to more than 15.5 mph such a bug bear for you???
  19. No one's said that, have they??? I just think electrical assistance would be better for commuting to 20 mph............ It would for me anyway. I am considering using the bike for my commute to work, so 12 miles daily. It's not that far I know, but on a daily basis may be a bit much everyday.......... I'm not getting any younger. So still considering what to do. Still on a trial at work too.
  20. I still haven't bought one yet and was undecided if I really needed / wanted full suss too. My current Scott Spark 40 is full suss and I was glad I bought it, however, I do not do the same kind of hair raising / heart stopping riding that I used to, such as Dalby Forest............. in the snow, Lol. I have also started riding my road bike more and really enjoying the extra speed and ease of.......... Skinny tyres etc... You don't have to answer but if you don't mind, how much did you pay??? I do like the look of yours and the ones with the battery more integrated into the down-tube... Also, what is the max speed of yours??? Is it the usual legal of 25kph / 15.5mph??? I do not like that as a maximum speed. I clocked 24.6 mph on my road bike yesterday, on flat / level road........ I would like to see an assisted max of at least 20mph. Cheers.
  21. Please do not take offence to me saying this but this issue has been covered numerous times bud (in this MK2 section too). I would link it if I knew where it was but if you search this section you should find it along with the solution I had that has worked for me and another member that used it with good results too. Hope you can find it. I will keep my eye open for it.
  22. Well, it's gone (or going) now but I was going to say I think there is always someone after a cheap but decent spec Estate and I think the DSG is a bonus............. I would say that though as I have the same make, model, spec, year, gearbox and engine type etc as you had Sam, Lol. Lower mileage though at 140K and no faults at all (touch wood)..... Just passed it's MOT too..... I would have thought you should get a grand but so long as you are happy with the sale that is all that matters. Hoping to upgrade my car myself soon also..........
  23. just a glitch then hopefully............. Aliens in the machine as they say. Mine has done it on a couple of occasions but only once in a blue moon.
  24. @Benskoda170cr Any news??????????? when was the fuel filter changed / has it been???????? And has the car been used much recently or been stood for ages??????
  25. A solar charger will not 'top it up', rather it may (if it's output is high enough) replace what the car is drawing whilst it is stood. For this purpose I use a 4 watt one, but I also use a normal charger occasionally if I know it is going to be freezing outside.. If you have done a 70 mile trip, and the car struggled to start the following morning then either a battery or charging or drain issue. The battery can be tested with a digital machine, however it has to be in a good state of charge for a garage to be able to test this way. A diesel does take a good amount of power to start up. What battery do you have, what CCA is it?
