  1. I'm not an expert on how things get dirty, but yes it is pretty usual that things get dirty over time............ Look at the insides of some old double glazing, for instance.
  2. With a cloth wrapped around an old toothbrush (iirc) with the head of the toothbrush bent to 90 degree. (use a lighter flame to soften the neck) But really anything you can get through the bulb hole with a nice clean bit of rag on the end of it.
  3. this was how dirty my lenses were before I cleaned them....... That was taken with a torch shone through to show the muck on the inside of the lens
  4. Nah, I went out yesterday................ Twas bit cold though, fingers freezing but soon warmed up. Only thing that was a little cold on my return were my tootsies.... I'd like an ebike to encourage me to return to off roading a bit more, just so that my aches and pains aren't too bad..... No pain, no gain. as they say. Whatever tit came up with that, Lol. My current full suss Scott Spark 40 is around 10kg I think. Easy to lift over gates............ I suspect a quality front suss ebike may double that weight......... Cheers Colin.
  5. Well, having a rethink now as due to new job I may start looking into Ebikes again with the intention of getting one....... (fingers crossed and touch wood that this job doesn't get made redundant). Probably need to visit 'Evans' and see if they have any left, Lol. I believe sales went ballistic this year and prices have increased. Time to start looking again anyway........... see if I can afford to treat myself.
  6. Is he resting on the stabilisers on one side as he rides??? That could be the reason, if he is, mac??? I twisted the forks on my Raleigh Winner slightly to one side (many moons ago) but it still seemed to ride straight...even though the wheels followed very slightly different tracks.
  7. Had my new boiler and wireless thermostat fitted recently. Plumber used two x 5 core 0.75mm. (2 or 3 cores spare he told me / future use if wanted) He has left the wiring diagram and done a pretty good job. I would say manufacturers / manual instructions (or H&S regs) being OTT as is frequently the case. Probably not the H&S regs in this case tho. You could ask the sparkies on the Screwfix forum for more professional advice but alike the 'Winner Takes All' programme of old, I bet you would still get a difference of opinion, Lol.
  8. I'm just referring to cleaning it this way (as below) Sam. and taking the headlight out of the car to do it, To clean the back of the 'eye' lens. I have mended the adjuster screw on mine before but I cannot remember how I did it now.........
  9. Not sure if the FL headlight block comes out as easily as the pre FL............. If it does, remove, and do the cleaning inside in the warm (hopefully) Well, as easily as the pre FL apart from disconnecting the lead, Lol.
  10. Only 2mm difference on the radius though so if the 260mm clear the caliper then cannot see why they would be a problem even if 256mm were intended size. It may cause a ridge after time though and wonder if this would cause an mot issue????
  11. ^^^ I'm in this camp, especially on an older car that probably isn't bothered, Lol.
  12. Get a cloth in through the bulb hole This was showing the muck on the back of the lens prior to cleaning. I used a toothbrush with the neck bent 90 degree (softened to bend using a lighter flame) with a cloth wrapped around it's head. Torch shone through from the inside to show the dirt.
  13. @Gissin Sherwood Pines.............
  14. I put in an S5008......... No problems and been in good number of years now.... I do keep a 4 watt solar charger plugged in whilst the car is standing.
  15. Aah, but he needs a regular income to keep his SpaceX project afloat, Lol. And if they can afford a Tesla they can afford it anyway, eh.
  16. For the purposes of the mot, then as mac says re the adjuster screw and track inside the headlight. I vaguely remember mending one of mine but cannot remember for sure it was on my Octy, but remember that it was not that difficult to mend but fortunately nothing was broken, rather it had popped out of it's holder.
  17. Thank goodness for older cars................ when a bulb works simply by plugging it in, without it having to be 'activated or programmed in, Lol.
  18. @Megsxx Can you not turn the social media mention to your advantage...... Name and shame the fact that they convinced you that it would pass the mot.......... something like that. For the purpose of getting their attention and some assistance from them to resolve the issue, as they said they would.
  19. Well yes, A happy Birthday from me too........ I guess this forum has also helped a good number of folk get through this pretty naff year with the (other) dreaded 'C' word...... Cheers everyone........ And three cheers to Colin, Hip Hip............... come on, everyone, Lol.
  20. Never fancied going tubeless myself but my road riding buddy from years ago used tubeless........ The tyres that my bike came with are Continental Mountain King 2.2 and these have been excellent summer tyres. After marrying these with some 2.2-2.6 downhill tubes then on the very rare occasion I get a thorn in it the tyre remains inflated for hours as the tube is un-stretched inside the tyre as it is the same size as the tyre. Bit of a bugger to refit after a mend though, but this can then be done at home without spoiling the ride. For the muddy trails I chose to try Panaracer TrailRaker PR (puncture resistant) 2.1, and just using standard tubes these have been excellent. Have visited Sherwood Pines and Cannock Chase a number of times. Burntstump Woods was a regular saturday afternoon ride but the best ride of all for me was in Dalby Forest in the North York Moors on a snowy New Years Day a few moons ago. Brilliant. @Gissin Glad you getting a few Christmas presents in early then, Lol.
  21. Well, another decent but short-ish ride today...... Only 10 mile round trip on MTB and not really off road either. Average just over 12mph full suss mtb. Might have to get my road bike out if weather stays dry enough. Victoria Embankment was packed...... So much for lock-down. Folk talking of Heart Rate's and monitors on Colin's topic has got me interested so thinking about getting something. Never interested before and always thought.......just ride and enjoy, but I'm getting older now too. Any ideas for a cheap but reliable HRM (if one exists) would be appreciated as I've never looked at them before. (cheapest whilst still being reliable) Currently use a Sigma BC1609 STS for mph etc...... Cheers
  22. What do you mean by 'it doesn't wipe straight??? And do you have new or new-ish rubber on there...
  23. All of the old ones with the exception of the Ford (cannot remember Fiesta or Focus) ST... Oh, and a middling Honda Civic Type R. Top slot awarded to the Golf GTi....... With the ST a close second.
  24. Beta Blockers lowers your heart rate apparently....
  25. @Colin170CR @Gaz_ You have my sympathies guys what with hip, back and knee pain and buggered joints in general myself..... Years of hard manual labour and kitchen fitting, not to mention the punishment I have given it riding bikes and rowing and exercising.... I do count myself lucky that riding doesn't affect me too much, even with knackered ankle ligaments on one side. Hence the DSG. I still like to push myself on my bike........ Sometimes I suffer, sometimes I don't. Still haven't took the plunge on a Pedelec yet, due to redundancy unfortunately.
