anyone play music from a USB stick?
I use dbpoweramp to rip my CDs as FLAC...& then batch convert to MP3 from FLAC.. Yes I know I'm using a MIB I Discovery sat nav with Dynaudio, but the basics behind it are the same across the MQB platforms....not had any problems..only the occasional missing album art if I've just reloaded the SD card (all music on an SD card in the glovebox) & not done a head unit reset..

Touch screens in Cars
Its called "Marketing"... Basically all companies want to make "x" percentage more profit than they did last year...... So if the market is saturated & your product sells well, instead of making it last longer & making your company more efficient, they all decide to make the previous model obsolete & flog an all new version...& in some cases just a reskin of the older one sold at an over inflated price... So to make their product stand out from everybody else's, they look for a "USP" (Unique selling point)...once they have that on their product all the other companies then look at this USP & copy it on their new versions...& so on.... ad nauseum. Forget saving the planet when you must "save the economy" by purchasing the latest whiz bang..... I seem to remember an old parable called "the Emperor's new clothes"...🤔... P.S. as somebody who has a bit of interest in engineering/design/etc...I prefer the old adage of "form following function"...unfortunately many products look crap, & don't even function properly...

Battery charging
I leave the car cables connected to the battery & the battery in place in the car. I have a C-tek? charger, & do the following: Connect charger positive cable to battery positive Connect charger negative cable to bayonet fixing on bulkhead behind battery Plug charger into mains socket Switch charger on When the charger says its charged I just reverse the above.

anyone play music from a USB stick?
No real point in FLAC in the car...I just use 320kbps fixed rate MP3 for the car.....FLAC I use for home audio... Sometimes a combination of different file types on the same stick is enough to confuse the systems...

anyone play music from a USB stick?
Are all the songs in the exact same format?. Are there only those songs on the UBS stick?? Are the files they are in as few as possible??

Battery sizes skoda fabia
Thats a 096 case size...you will need a new "felt" internal sleeve/cover...& I don't know which bits of the plastic outer, as you might have the bigger ones...you have to double check the part numbers from that drawing I linked to & measure yourself Other than that if you want the same smaller case size as your existing battery go EFB or AGM type for more AH but more £££
-
Battery sizes skoda fabia
Looking at the parts drawing for the battery box it appears there are the following battery sizes fitted at factory for the MkI Fabia:- 36AH 44AH 60AH 70 & 72AH fuse socket - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2002 year] (7zap.com) You could also go for EFB or AGM versions which hold more Ah for the same case size..but will cost more...

Suspension upgrade to raise suspension
Hmmmm...so just a 0.5mm on the diameter?..as you say approx. 10% stiffer...so not as much as I feared... I'm on 225/45/R17....& most of the time its two people in the front...but I have the multilink on my 1.4lt Mk7 Golf estate. Will keep in mind the "heavy duty/tow bar" rear spring option when I have to replace mine...so long as they did a "sports suspension" -15mm version which is what I have from factory...
-
Suspension upgrade to raise suspension
The tow bar option makes sense....& yes I know about the engine weights & spring differences....ie the heavier the engine the stiffer/stronger the spring has to be "jack" the car back upto the same empty/unladen ride height... I wonder then if the "tow bar" rear springs make the rear ride "crashy" when the rear is empty??...

Rear spring change on a 1.4tsi 2016 Combi.
If its the torsion beam suspension you have to replace the bolt & torque it to 70Nm +180deg turn If its the multilink suspension you have to replace the nut & bolt & torque it to 70Nm +180deg turn Bolt needs to done up with the wheel on the ground in the normal unladen position....basically do bolts up to just touching remove everything from the boot, car on ground, open hatch press down several times on hatch sill to bounce car..then crawl under to torque.. You also might have to undo the plastic level sender for the headlights on the multi-link arm as it could over extend....also be aware of the spring location on the rubber pads as its directional...

Suspension upgrade to raise suspension
Didn't realise that VAG did several different rear spring rates for the same ride height!!...usually they alter it only for the height...or the DCC option.. If its the torsion beam suspension you have to replace the bolt & torque it to 70Nm +180deg turn If its the multilink suspension you have to replace the nut & bolt & torque it to 70Nm +180deg turn Bolt needs to done up with the wheel on the ground in the normal unladen position....basically do bolts up to just touching remove everything from the boot, car on ground, open hatch press down several times on hatch sill to bounce car..then crawl under to torque.. the truth about electric cars
I forgot I wrote that thread....😄 Everything I said then still stands....

Suspension upgrade to raise suspension
That Forge version is for the MQB platform & states VW Alltrack....which is just a VW Mk7 Golf estate with AWD & taller springs & add on plastic exterior trim.....which is basically the same, platform, mechanicals, suspension & electrics as the MkIII Octavia which is also MQB...

the truth about electric cars
I wrote to the local MSP & others a few years ago & reminded them all that many other countries around the world mandate winter tyres to all vehicles (to varying specifications), at certain times of the year. I also stated that I had been running winter tyres for numerous winters & had the benefit of increased grip on black ice & the that the vehicles safety control systems eg the ABS/ESC operated more effectively because of this increased grip..ie the right tools/tyres for the job. The reason for me writing was because two newish fire engines (14 plate) from Inverness had slid of a straight bit of road in Feb 2016 at Sunnyside near Culloden to black ice...both ending up in a field on their side... Winter tyres load rated for those vehicles have been available for many years & are used in other countries. Up there its obviously cheaper to replace two fire engines than swap onto winter tyres every year!....Total incompetence.. Suspension upgrade to raise suspension
The Scout is the 4x4 "rough road" version....& it'll only add 15mm to thee ride height of a normal Octavia...the VRS is about 15mm lower..so a max of 30mm between the highest & lowest factory OEM suspension.. You can get spring spacer mounts which lift the body off the springs.. VW Alltrack/Tiguan Leveling MQB Chassis Lift Kit | FMLFT1 | Forge Overland (forgemotorsport.co.uk)

the truth about electric cars
TBH many "work" cars could & should have been electric many years ago, or at least smaller more efficient ICE.....unfortunately so many like to show off with a big car/van/SUV/pickup..... Many of the care/nurses/doctors etc up here were running big SUVs to get to peoples homes...In fact a Fiat Panda 4x4 on a set of winter tyres would have done the job just as well, as if its that bad the roads are closed or you need a JCB...or skis/sled/huskies! Now many have got smaller cars & a few of the NHS owned cars are those small BMW EVs
-
the truth about electric cars
BTH the cost of electricity will go up as the cost to improve the grid to cope with the extra (at least double) demand as to be got from somewhere. Also as the Gov gets £££ from the yearly road tax, that will continue to see a rise. So in a few years you could end up paying as much per mile for your road tax & electricity for an EV as you do for a petrol driven car today... P.S. the charger is a 50kW on the "Courthouse Lane" carpark ..& I've seen the H.C. cars left there day after day...& looking at the comments it wasn't even a full electric & not plugged in!
-
the truth about electric cars
& they (H.C.) hog the EV charging points in the public car parks with their white Nissan Leafs...quite a few around here get "abandoned" for days on end resulting in the public not being able to use the chargers. So basically DON'T count on being able to use the chargers if you're up this way....!!

Which file format for music
Yeah I know what you mean.. ..I'm on one mainly as I've yet to place a mods list/thread that I did to a set of speakers...many of the build methods & components are not what people usually use, but are of better quality etc...& the way I built the cross-over network..just wanted to get the info out so people can improve their knowledge...

Which file format for music
FLAC is better due to song details tagging i.e. its read by more programmes etc ..well that's the conclusions I've read from highly detailed arguments in certain hi-fi forums....but than I only have one Apple device....the rest is Windows... Anyway I can play 24bit 192kHz studio master downloads (which I have) on my network player....& those files are LARGE... well comparing one song in 24bit 192kHz is 233MB -vs-59MB as 16bit 44.1kHz CD..!!
-
Which file format for music
I have FLAC for home audio & then a MP3 file in fixed bit rate at 320kbps lossy for the car..& I have the dynaudio system in the car... The car is not the best place to try to hear the differences in a top end MP3 -vs- FLAC debate....stick to MP3 at 320kbps fixed rate. P.S. I use dbpoweramp for all my ripping & conversion needs...
