Remaps
Lower rpm for same speed? No. Less throttle input? Yes. Is probably the same as what you asked but wanted to clarify just in case. If you change your driving style to match the acceleration and speed you did before then you should see better mpg. If you drive with the same input as before then you will likely see better performance and maybe slightly better mpg. As under said above, most people tend to enjoy the car more after a remap causing you to use more fuel. I know I do.

Unsure about 2019 superb estate
I assume the water pump went the same way as it does on the Octavia. It's well documented on there. Mine went @38k miles so had the belt done at the same time to save me doing it later on. You describe your driving as occasional towing. How occasional? If a couple of times a year and the rest of your journeys are local/slow/town I would avoid a diesel. Gonna clog up the dpf in no time.

Vrs Tsi dsg owners
Sounds like you drive with quite a light foot? The day does adapt a little to the way you drive. Not 100% sure on how exactly but maybe it's just that it's got used to you and it's doing what it thinks you want. You can reset it yourself or get a garage to do it and see if it makes a difference. A pedal box has helped my TDI keep in a better gear rather than labouring a high one.

I'm pickin' up bad vibrations - dogbone mount
Thats a shame. I really do like the benefits it offers and dont get anywhere near the issues you describe. The raised NVH goes as soon as the gas pedal is hit. The only time I have noticed it is when coasting in eco mode on the dsg. You have tried it and chosen what is right for you. Better than not trying it at all IMO.

Octavia upgrades
I have a bilstien b12 kit and a remap on my 2.0 TDI elegance. It's as fast if not faster than my mates standard vrs TDI but not as comfy as it doesn't have independent rear suspension.

Help.. Engine light on
If you are happy to plug in a tuning box then why not get a code reader. OBDeleven is a good choice but there are many out there that dont cost a load and you'll get the outlay back in no if you traditionally pay a garage to clear codes.

Linear acceleration mod AKA free tuning ;) - VCDS/OBDeleven
They look to me to be the same thing.

Distance buying and limited mileage under finance
Now in a position to replace my Octavia (likely with a superb) but most of the cars I am interested in are many miles away. I understand that most dealers are willing to deliver and that there are companies out there who inspect a used car before purchase. Q1. Has anyone used one of these companies and bought a car without actually seeing in the flesh? Q2. If the finance has a limited mileage attached, how does this work if you pay off the finance? Are you closing the finance deal therefore the limited mileage is not in effect? I guess the first Q is the most important. Yes, if I do this I will give the car a once over on delivery as there will be consumer rights on what you expect to receive etc. etc.

Wireless Android Auto Dongle working with video
Ordered mine for Feb delivery. Looks like a great solution.

Second Hand buying red flags - 272 Petrol
@Redboy I should have said it's 'only' 5mm higher. Also as a comparison with another model with the same drivetrain and DCC the difference is in spec and appearance rather than driving ability. I didn't really explain myself very well. Unless the sportline had stiffer springs? Even with the same height...

Handbrake failure
Passed test in 2000 and was originally taught by my dad to leave in neutral. Then the BSM instructor said the same. I don't think there is a mechanical reason either way (aside from failing handbrakes). I also press the button when lifting even though taught to put the brake on by counting the clicks. I find it best to put it on by feel. Harder if needed and in gear/into curb if unsure.

Radio unit upgrade
You don't have the Amundsen. No nav button top right. Pretty sure that's correct @SashaGrace? Also looks like you are on MIB1 system maybe. The unit is in the glovebox. The screen bit is just that, a screen that is run off the glovebox unit. If you post a pic of the main unit then you will get a good answer of what your options are.

Skoda Enyaq
Any idea when they will be available for test drives? Currently looking at octy vrs all the way up through the range to superb sportline 4x4 as a stop gap until EV infrastructure is better (all estate variants). This looks great but I still don't like the idea of being stuck without a way to charge. Day to day will be handled by home charging which I expect is the same for most. As I don't need to get rid of the oil burner I guess I could have both vehicles and use the EV daily while keeping the octy for long runs while I need it.

Second Hand buying red flags - 272 Petrol
I saw someone with a piece of cord around the headrest to hold the tablet. You need a suitable case and a piece of cord that doesn't look carp if wanting to keep it 'fitted'.

It's exaggerated with TDI as it take more to turn it over. Just a split second longer makes the difference.

Help - TPMS - no way to turn off
Get obd eleven so you can reset it yourself. Far cheaper than replacing the head unit and gives you loads of other stuff to play with.

Second Hand buying red flags - 272 Petrol
Needs double checking but pretty sure the DCC in any model sits 10mm lower than standard. So a DCC sportline is 5mm higher than a non DCC sportline.

Questions from a new owner
Right hand roller on the steering wheel along with the page button next to it changes what is displayed. When looking at stuff like avg. mpg if you press the roller in, it cycles through 'since start', 'since refuel' or long term.

It's very possible as I did the lazy thing and used the built in app on obd eleven to disable (18 months) then enable. I know it's not the right thing to do as you never know what is being changed but I didn't know that at the time. Anything could have been adjusted....

Can confirm that this trick does not work on a pfl Octavia. Tried it in 3 separate stops and didn't do a thing.

This is very interesting. Having just reactivated SS in readiness to get rid if the car it's taking me a while to get used to it again. Will try this on the way home later.

Work straight out the box
This is true with a slight caveat that when a vehicle is travelling uphill the weight transfer causes the rear to dip. Similar to acceleration. Not sure if the response of the system is enough to adjust in that situation though. I would assume that the only way it actually adjusts is via the static loading of the suspension components. Maybe even only on startup?

After Market Head Units
You need more than VCDS to code an OEM unit. Most of us visit a dealer to remove the component protection and then sent it off to Pab for coding. It's rare that a screen fails so IMO it would be worth the effort to get an MIB2 system working. If you do decide to go into the aftermarket systems the Alpine one is the most integrated. Not heard of a sony unit (link?). There are lots that look like they might fit but the shape of the space behind the screen is not suitable for 99% of units. If you like to tinker with settings there are a number of android units that would fit but make sure you get one that has UK support.

No driving mode selection?
Just notice you have heated seats. Strange spec to have those but no mode button.

MK3 Octavia front doors seem a bit small
In contrast I am 5'6 and 12.5 stone and although I don't struggle to get in/out I have worn away the door seal at seated elbow level almost through to the hollow bit. I have my seat fully lowered and quite far back for my height and leg length (short limbs).
