Noise when accelerating in low gears
Does it sound like a whine? A bit like when some car reverse? If so it could well be low transmission fluid like others have stated.

That's some amazing service!

Octavia Variable Boot Floor retrofit?
Someone in the superb III section made their own. Tis what I plan to do if my next car is missing it. Such a useful space.

EV sub £30k comparison group tests.
Very true. Apologies. Model Y is too much I think for many. Even enyaq/id4 is in the expensive realm for most.

EV sub £30k comparison group tests.
I really need to investigate the charger situation for my usual long journeys. Local trips are home charger stuff as has been the case for all EVs. What would you suggest for someone who still needs occasional (2-3/month) long trips with little ability to charge at final destination (other than 3 pin)? Tempted by the enyaq but struggling to convince myself of the charging situation.

EV sub £30k comparison group tests.
@e-Roottoot this is something that I had not considered. For me it's another argument for a phev. A little bit of burning old dinosaurs to warm up and demist efficiently and switch back to ev for much efficient driving. Edit: I do his show. Adds a bit of normality to presenting instead of scripted guff.

Inspection service
I think there is still a mileage limit. 140k someone mentioned the other day. My thoughts on the UK having a tighter time limit is that in the UK we are more likely to claim against a bust belt and claims would likely be more expensive here also (compared to south America for example). It's easier for them to lower the service period and subsequently reduce the claim costs. Only my views though. This is the thing here. Also at 43k you are in the prime slot for the pump to fail if it's going to. Pretty sure that age of cars was in the prime for dicky pump too. Get both done. Should be £350-500.

Going too see and drive my first ever Octavia VRS 245 - need some help please
I was discussing buying used with a colleague at lunch and it's a minefield when you start digging into the weeds of mileage vs age. One thing we both agreed on was making sure it has been serviced correctly and avoid anything that could have been driven hard for a prolonged period (read rep mobile for 3 years). The other option would be get a deal and take it to a trusted garage for a good once over: air/oil/fuel/pollen filters. Check shocks, spring seats and bushes. Maybe even do dsg/haldex oil if relevant. Also take it to a pro car cleaner for a good in/out clean and a good coating of whatever is the latest paint protection. That's my plan anyway for when I change cars in the next 6 months. Generic stuff aside, I think it's a good consensus that the Octavia is a reliable car in whatever trim you go for. It's likely to be as good as the golf mechanically and maybe better than the seat internally. Just double triple check all the service history and match it up with what should have been done. If that's all good and you like the car/can afford it...…..

Android Auto
To be fair the initial handshake is less than intuitive. Sometimes it works flawlessly, sometimes this thread happens.

Rear mounted bike rack
@BigEjit I would suggest a badly fitted rack in his case. I'm sure the instructions on a cheap rack I had years ago said not to place the pads on the windows and also keep the straps square to the mounting points. This are both issues hat contribute to what happened to your mate.

Android Auto
Have you run through the setup process in AA on the phone. Do that then exit the app. Along with a reset it should work. Also make sure the Bluetooth is connected to the car as this can help with the handshake.
-
Android Auto
Don't open AA on the phone. Just plug in from locked. That's how I've always done it.

DTUK Boxes and comparability
I used a tuning box on my 150tdi that had previously been used on a superb 150tdi. If you look at the specs of the cars the peak torque is slightly more on the superb but it worked fine on my octy. I would take a guess that they are compatible between the gtd and vrs but maybe get one with a return option?

What external CD Drives can be used to play my CDs?
If you already have some music on your phone why not add to it? Google music (and probably others) can have your music uploaded to them. Then its just a small charge for the data to stream it or free if you pre-download. You can then access your own music wherever you are with internet if the memory on your phone is too small.

Fan still running after engine off
@Fpm what does your driving pattern look like? Is it mainly town driving or motorway? Do you drive with economy in mind or push a bit harder? This will give us an idea of the condition of the DPF. A 4 year old 1.6tdi driven around town for its life will almost certainly be in need of a long run at higher than normal revs.

Fan still running after engine off
More likely to be a the dpf doing a regen. I can't remember whether it's still doing the regen when it happens or if it's been interrupted and needs to go again next startup. If needs to go again it wont do it till you are up to speed/heat.

Timing belt or chain? change interval
Unlikely to be 50k but 5years is the standard. 120k I think is the mileage.... maybe. As for chain or belt I don't know. Is it petrol or diesel?
-
Can i use 5w 40 (no dpf)
I wouldn't say using 1lt/750miles is "nothing wrong with it". May as well measure oil usage by mpg at that rate. As @Wino says, sounds like not many have done it and as you are using so much why not give it a try. I doubt it would make it worse.
-
Can i use 5w 40 (no dpf)
Ok I'll be bad cop: You know that removing the dpf is an MOT fail right? And one that is being clamped down on.

280 4x4
@IanJD Can you confirm the ride height of the L&K vs sportline plus (both dcc)? Been trying to find out but not been able to find concrete evidence. I saw some reviews writing that the dcc equipped car ride 10mm lower than standard regardless of spec. L&K without dcc is standard height and SLP without is 15mm lower. Please can you confirm this? (or not...)

All Weather tyres and Summer tyres
Yes in that case you are right. But here we are talking about using winters in the winter months. I kept a set of winters on my mk2 octy for 24 months as I forgot to swap them out. Heading into the second summer they were down to 3/4mm and actually performed better than the Michelin energy savers that were supposed to be the summers. Economy dropped a bit though. Also, winters are designed to perform better in snow (compared to summer/all season) but they are still not snow tyres. They are tarmac tyres with a lean towards cold/wet/icy conditions. They can be used in snow to better effect, but, they are still designed for use on normal roads. childish warning!!: If we take this any further will it be a mass debate?
-
All Weather tyres and Summer tyres
As has been mentioned a few times: winter tyres are not snow tyres! In the colder half of the year I would sooner use a winter set over a summer set. The winters generally have better water shedding capability and, as is the design, work better in lower average temps. What makes you think winter tyres underperform in the wet? I'm just trying to understand your viewpoint. If you have genuine experience of this then It could be a location thing?

Display Blank on Media Unit
Ah so you bought the car on the understanding it has Bluetooth, DAB and nav? You should be in line for an upgrade to Amundsen then. Still only MIB1 so no androidauto/carplay but a good upgrade either way. Just had another look at the screen you showed to start with. That's bigger than the Amundsen so you may even get the Columbus system. Fingers crossed for you.

Turbo
This is more important IMO. Like Scout said the natural slow down of any journey should be enough for the turbo to calm down a bit without worry. It is far more likely that too much is asked of the system when starting from cold so tak it easy for a mile or so at least. With my tdi I wait till the oil temp shows a reading on maxidot (>50c) which also coincides with the water temp getting to its usual 90c. At the know there is at least a little heat in the block etc before I ask much of it.
