  1. @BallastWhen i say 'Cold Start' i do not mean Winter, around freezing. It is any starting of an engine that has sat and the coolant / oil so the engine is at the ambient temp, then short drives. In the teens degree Celsius the petrol engines might still start at a higher RPM. There is the Cartalytic converter as well as the GPF now that need getting to an efficient operating temp ASAP. There are even excuses made for rough running with some engines because that supposedly do not meet what ever the Engine Management requires. (These Euro 6 1.2 TSI were discontinue and replaced by 1.0 TSI's and with GPF's, but te same old is sometimes being given as the reason for a rough running new TSI.) http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/504258-a-tsb-from-skoda-on-cold-start-behaviour-with-12-tsis-something-that-dealership-employees-should-be-able-to-eplain-to-customers
  2. Getting colder in the North again later this week as it is time for winter and lambing snows. It is good when down south there are those that get the advantage of the All Season / All Weather tyres that are asked about from about September.
  3. RPM cold or hot start as to be expected with a TSI with a GPF, even pre GPF TSI's. Higher for 40 seconds or so then a drop. The issue as the GPF cars get a bit older, do more short cold start trips is the GPF keeps the RPM high for longer. Not handy on a cold / icy start off from someplace where you might normally just go off ticking over and now you need to be touching the brakes. (That is for the future, but is already happening with some 2018 on 1.0 TSI Fabia mk3.)
  4. Undiluted is OK, but then is it to -5*oC or -10,-15, 20 / 23 sort of strength undiluted. OK staying fluid in the washer bottle and pipes and nozzles but then if it is only -2*oC air temp and it freezes hitting the windscreen when it is -20*oC screen wash that is not that good.
  5. Plenty owners of 1.5 TSI's are going to be asking about having the timing belt changed on the earliest of the vehicles in the UK so the Service DEsk staff will need to get up to speed on the Technician being over 6 hours on the job and what the actual cost is going to be to the customer for the job on their vehicle. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/510188-question-re-cambelt-vw-t-roc There might be independents that accept the job and have no clue, but there will be those that will have the equipment and the skills and be charging less than £85 an hour plus VAT. There will pretty much need to be or lots of over 5 year old 1.5TSI's will be around in the trade that have not been maintained to the Manufacturers Guidelines, recommendations or even schedule. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/507544-cam-belt-for-15-tsi-in-east-kent
  6. @Previouslyrobygerrard That can be the issue with the Service Desk staff and the likes of those with the first 1.5TSI ACT inquiring about have the Timing Belt replaced.
  7. She is looking at at least £750 then, and much more if at a Main Dealership. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/510175-karoq-cam-belt-change-start-saving-now
  8. Nothing is necessary with servicing and maintenance, many do what suits them, personally at that i might not have it changed. She has decide as VW give the advice or recommendation or even have the schedule as being at 5 years. It is a gamble that might cost dear. The belt could be inspected for a small expense. ? What engine has the car?
  9. So really a very different DSG then and 6 speed and not an engine with Cylinder Deactivation like a 1.5 TSI ACT. Small capacity turbo engine that can run on 2 cylinders and has engine and DSG management to give low emissions that should mean good economy. But then the same engine in a smaller Fabia, Scala, Kamiq is moving a Kodiaq.
  10. Best find a good reputable independent with the licensed equipment and that does the service and maintenance required and knows what actually is needing done. Often that will be owned or staffed by ex Main Dealer Technicians that give good customer service.
  11. @DBSurrey Is your car a Front Wheel Drive, so not AWD & no Haldex and a DQ200 DSG? No DSG oil change by years. & a DQ381 is @ 80,000 miles. A DQ200 DSG requires no Oil changes. This was the Fixed Price in 2021 @ participating dealers for 4 spark plugs, not exceeding 2 litre engines and not a Citigo. But still a 3 cylinder 1.0.
  12. The ACT makes all the difference. The time required means expensive. But the Dealers prices are crazy.
  13. Sounds over expensive. Is that what Skoda Main Dealers are quoting in 2023, or the place you go are? The 1.5 TSI ACT does not require a new water pump.
  14. A different kettle of fish there, much less labour involved. Is that not Cam belt and water pump?
  15. @J.R. might give some advice. There are threads on getting a used rear diff. Yeti & Octavia Mk2 sections.
  16. That was my bad link, try again.
  17. Did you do a key word search? http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/447608-fitting-a-honeycomb-grill-with-pics-led-front-indicators-too http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/462589-front-grill-replacement
  18. Funnily sales people keep saying that for 2 years and yet people have been getting their lease vehicles sooner than some private buyers wanting to buy and own a car. @P100HP Which of the Scottish Dealership groups sales staff have you been asking?
  19. Because they are all 1.5 TSI ACT with the Skoda models, that is unless it is a 1.5 TSI PHEV. So the ones that will be getting quoted higher prices because it does take a lot of labour time to do.
  20. There are all sorts of prices being quoted for 1.5 TSI ACT's. So you need to know they can and will do the job, be that the Main Dealers or Independents. Important is, it is a 1.5 ACT. it has Active Cylinder Technology. (So if someone quotes cheap and they think just like a 1.4 / 1.4 ACT / or just 1.5 TSI then they need to go speak to a Technician.) http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/505586-cost-of-cambelt-change http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/507544-cam-belt-15-tsi-in-east-kent
  21. So is it showing D and not D7 on the dash, so shifter in D & actually coasting / 'coasting' enabled. Then engaging a lower gear rather than letting the car run away on a decline without the gear engaged? Doing the job as it was designed / engineered to do. ? Did the Golf have a 7 speed Wet clutch Dq381, or a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG. What year of Golf was it and what engine,?
  22. Never used a scrapper in my life ever even in the coldest of Scottish Winter, and never will.. I use de-icer or used to use Pre-deicer. -20*oC deicer used currently for side windows to get them open when getting into the car and heater on at full and rear screen and heated mirrors on. Mirrors not folding is the most important thing. Those stupid camera things on the new EV's need to be able to be locked in position and those on the Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be hopeless.
  23. I use -23*oC Screen wash and it has not frozen in the bottle. Last week at only -2*oC and very dry air and no frost at 4.30 pm i was 100 yards from home around the corner and my car got salty mess on the screen from a van coming the other way and sprayed the windscreen and could see nothing. The screen was covered in ice. Luckily nothing behind and i indicated stopped at the kerb and got out and sprayed the -20*oC de-icer on the screen.
  24. Much cheapness then if it is for a 1.5 TSI ACT.
  25. It is the ASG sort of if it is the Inhibitor switch. Have they actually tested that?
