The MG 4 and 5 EV and Maxus vans - Game changing cars & vans from SAIC
http://electrive.com/2019/06/21/volkswagen-produces-more-phev-parts-in-china Choices. Loads of them. We could buy British Built & Indian owned that import export to China. Or European Owned that build anyplace globally they can cheaply, manyof which will have parts & materials from China , that would be German Manufacturers. Maybe North Korean with parts from china, or even cars from North America. Time to stop buying built or with parts built in Hungary that has a leader that is a supporter of Putin, which is why they have the deal for gas and oil that they have. Then there is the Czech Republic with a similar deal.

@mac11irlThe way of the world seems to be that for all kinds of stuff to be cheap or affordable for many that have lower incomes it requires very low paid workers doing the work. There still has to be profits for the employers to stay in business though. That is how people like the goods , foods etc they buy to be, cheap when you want cheap. Others working conditions, pay and lifestyle is not something that bothers many.

The subject is kind of about EV models and a Chinese owned car & van manufacturer who is disrupting the cartel that is the EV manufacturers with overpriced products because the were being subsidised by UK Tax payers. They were a manufacturer that had kits of cars imported to the UK and assembled here before they went over to EV's, that building the ICE cars stopped in 2016. They might do that in the future with EV's. probably not though.

^^^ Seems not that far! The EV MINI hatchbacks & new Small SUV MINI Electric will be getting built in China. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-63269974 The real issue being is it not likely to be that small and it will not be a SUV it will just be tall.

Tyre pressure.
@TechguyDo you mean the pressures are still the same when cold as when you last set the TPMS?

the truth about electric cars
Real world in Scotland for me is the luck of the draw getting on an available charger free or even pay to charge at busy places lots of the time. Fast chargers often available, but getting into them and getting in and out the car and getting plugged in can be the issue, same as at dual chargers with a rapid and a fast fixed cable. Today at Perth Park and ride one rapid out of order as always, the 3 others occupied with cars charging till full and all fast chargers occupied. Then up the hill the 12 Tesla Superchargers there with 1 Tesla charging. The usual for here. What is unusual is that so many of the CPS chargers are working. Ps. No sign of any work on the Charger hub extension that was to be built from money that already came from the EU years back.

Very true. England's lack of planning & actions need not hold back Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland though in the getting to Net Zero and reducing pollution. England needs to get on with Energy Security considering how much it needs to import. Now there are Communities and charging hubs with Turbines for Hydro & Wind generation of electricity and battery storage with no connection to the grid, and there are more and more of those being built, and lots in Scotland. There are Island Communities that have had no National Grid connection to the mainland for years now and are producing electricity and hydrogen from that and using & exporting the hydrogen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_stations_in_Scotland Just 1 Nuclear power station now and it is due to decommission in 2 years time. http://newcivilengineer.com/latest/3-4bn-undersea-electricity-superhighway-between-scotland-and-north-england-moves-forward-31-03-2022 http://nationalgrid.com/electricity-transmission/network-and-infrastructure/segl2 http://nsenergybusiness.com/projects/eastern-hvdc-link/# The National Grids problem is storage of electricity. but then they know the partial solution. http://electrek.co/2022/01/26/europes-largest-grid-connected-battery-storage-facilities-will-be-set-up-in-scotland http://scottishconstructionnow.com/articles/angus-council-not-opposed-to-ps40m-battery-storage-plant Obviously a National Grid issue is that England needs Gas & Oil & Coal Power Stations and Wood Pellet burning to produce electricity for the grid and there is a concern over gas shortages. That Electricity produced from Gas is also get used in huge amounts producing energy to power cracking plants producing road fuels as well as other petrochemicals.

Eventually there might be members posting in this section who are trying to help other members fix EV's. Eventually there might be more than 2 Skoda EV's that need fixing or hopefully less fixing than the ICE Skodas do. Not much assisting in helping fixing cars is going on in the Roadside Hotel, Off Topic, and the Health Sections.

It is not taking the first post seriously as i read it. But maybe @wyx087was being serious.

Karoq Fuel Consumption
@CJJE Skoda do not claim fuel consumption figures since the WLTP came in, they can only publish the results of the WLTP for comparison purposes. What differences are there with MY21 & MY22 models to affect them during the test regime? http://skoda-auto.com/services/wltp

Seems quite a reasonable response to the post that was about buying a Chinese car and a clean conscience which was posted without a winky thing.

Wish i hadn't bought my MK4 Octavia and kept my karoq
@ry123 Have you made the Dealership aware that the car is coming in for more than a service and requires Warranty work, or them to investigate and get warranty work approved?

@Crasher. I think what it is is people actually learning facts and listening to myths and using common sense and being prepared to have an open mind. I can play devil's advocate as much as anyone. I am charging EV,s in Scotland which is different from in England, then the UK is different again from other world regions. Sadly the burning of coal in England to generate electricity is ridiculous and is happening because of failures of the Westminster government. The local authorities and public blocking solar and on shore wind and battery storage is a scandal. Those areas should be first to have Power Cuts if any are required.

@Luckypants Those are not in Scotland though. Tomorrow i am at Broxden Park & Ride Perth & planning on charging there so i will see if the new chargers that were due to open by now have even started to be installed. Also if the current chargers are working because watching ZapMap & PlugShare they have been very hit or miss if people are getting them started or keeping on working.

What will happen is that VW Group will be selling and first registering a lot less cars in the EU and the UK because without the partners they use in the Emissions Pool to get the average C02 emission figures they can not build and sell cars. MG being one of the manufacturers VW Group use as VW Group have not the models themselves. http://electrive.com/2021/01/15/volkswagen-adds-ev-makers-to-co2-pool-with-saic If there is a way to cheat then Vorsprung Durch Technik. http://insideevs.com/news/475232/europe-volkjswagen-group-missed-2020-co2-target http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAIC_Volkswagen

EV real world range and cost to charge
This morning & 4*oC & damp and i got 1.9 miles per kWh, and after 45 minutes charging it was 9*oC and i got 2.9 miles per kWh. That was 3.9 miles per kWh yesterday all day when it was 16*oC. Short trips of just 2 miles a time stopping and then going again later. The efficiency of those cars on the video's is amazing really. the 16*oC weather is something i am used to. 20*oC setting as a heating temp in a car is not. 16-18 *oC is what i have in cars and more than that is too hot and if the weather is hot outside i might want 14*oC in the car. The heated steering wheel will be on lots in the next 5 months, as will the heated seats.

hydrogen powered cars
They make it look like a faff, just as many do at a LPG pump or even at an EV charger.

@Crasher13 year old EV's are doing just fine. They are out there doing what they were engineered to do. I have a 17 year old diesel that does 26 mpg and a 12 year old petrol that does 46 mpg and have kept cars for 15 years and more for a few decades. If no car was ever build again in the world there are enough to keep the world rolling along. The Westminster Government is the issue as far as renewables and electricity in the UK, but especially in England. Have nuclear anyplace the people want in England. & unlike the Tory MP that yesterday said that there are places with nobody where fracking can be done. Frack where the people are that want the gas. Right in their towns and areas. It is not going for Power Stations for energy for homes anyway, it is for Oil Refineries and Petrochemical plants to produce products. Scotland thankfully is resources rich and the Westminster Government can be ignored for some stuff. Lots of land, coast and sea bed and not a large population. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-63229402 The SNP want to keep Oil & Gas in the North North Sea for when Scotland is Independent, for when it is truely valuable, now finally the licences for exploration is for off England. High time that oil and gas was exploited.

hydrogen powered cars
The only oil and gas shortages now and in the next several generations are because of cartels controlling how it is taken from the ground and transported and traded. The food and water and energy shortages are war related and also in the hands of traders and speculators. European governments have decided that Climate change and global warming can be ignored for a year or 3 till they sign out and it is others problem. Tens or hundreds of Thousands killed in wars, and millions die prematurely from pollution and have bad health pre death. Most important is the sight of starving and dying children. The wealthy bother about cars.

The synthetic fuels require huge amounts of electricity to produce even now as was the case in the 1940,s when Germany was producing it. Bio fuels are taking lots of land up to produce the plants that could be land producing food. Which is why countries like in Europe are pulling back on bio.

EV real world range and cost to charge
Older Tech EV's with smaller / lighter batteries for getting about efficiency. & Skoda CZ or VW decided that no more Citigo iV's (sister car of e-Up!Mii electric) for the UK. Not that simply clever really.

WTF WOW EV
420 bhp AWD. Nice! and Brabus noise...

To scrap or not to scrap....
@simoncorrigan If you let it go for £500 you are giving someone a big profit breaking it, or repairing. The DSG would be under £1,500 to repair. Was the engine OK before the gearbox played up? http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/507706-fabia-vrs-with-knackered-dsg-gearbox

So I went and bought a Jaaaag
They are never going to be in front of you for long unless you are stuck in traffic because they always go for any gap up the road and then will be right up your jacksy and you can not see the front grill. They are an Ultimate Drivers car, an ultimate pillock considering UK speed limits.
