  1. Audi are getting the last hoorah out of the TDI's before they have to go. As the Bi-Turbo has to in the cars / trucks with them. A 335d x-Drive is a thing of wonderment.
  2. @sepulchrave Nail on the head. All cars have the OEM plugs first, and if you have a failure with them are you going to chance the same again? If you do and the same thing happens and luckily the engine has not been wrecked will you again use what came as the OEM plugs? Plug getting cooked due to the fundamental design of the head, manifold and engine management / map. Yet by using different plugs from the OEM ones you can have the same engine that burned the tip then run with different plugs with a different reach that do not expire in the same way. Better still you can run the likes of a APR Stage 1 map and the different plugs and not burn the tip off a plug and not have the excessive oil use issue.
  3. 1,800 CAVE engine Skoda Twinchargers in the UK. Failures from the start with excessive oil use. and failing spark plugs. 2011 the OEM plugs were changed, as was the gap. Some cars had breather mods and software updates. 2012 these engines were discontinued. 2012 the CTHE were introduced using the OEM plugs last used in the CAVE engines. Under 1,100 CTHE Twincharger registered in the UK There were still excessive oil users. There were some cars had the breather mod done??? & a Software Update. There were engines replaced, there were spark plugs burning tips off. Then there was the Oil Spray Jet upgrade done. The 2,900 odd cars left the factory with the VW / NGK plugs. That was an issue, but that was how it was 2010-2014. The SEAT & VW & Audi 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twinchargers had the similar percentage of failures of engines 2009-2012, the 2012 on. The Spark Plug getting the tip burnt off being a common issue. Audi Techs learned early on to start using DENSO plugs in the Audi A1 1.4TFSI 185ps Twincharger, that was because they were told to by the factory. There were a very limited number of the Audi A1 twin Chargers in the UK, around 500 first registered. When there are years of anecdotal evidence and there are statistics known by the Manufacturers it can be simply clever to look at the issues and act and not replace in the region of 25% of the engines expire prematurely. Even replacement engines expire. Maybe that was what Audi did when telling Dealership Techs to use a different Spark Plug from the OEM ones. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/461905-fabia-vrs-mkii-spark-plug-fail-new-engine-help-advice
  4. @sepulchrave Look a the dozens of Mk2 Fabia vRS just on here that have had the tip burn or break off of a Spark Plug. All but 1 pictured or discussed by those that have had this will be NGK plugs of the 4 different specs used with these engines, So it might be called anecdotal, but that is anecdotal from working on the cars, removing plugs, inspecting plugs and talking with the techs working on the cars and what they have learned to reduce the risk of the issue. This is the single example of a DENSO that i have seen over 10 years of the CAVE / CTHE plugs failing. Maybe because those using them are already aware of how short lived the 1 of the 4 NGK / VW plugs can last so when using the DENSO they are checking them more regularly & not making the mistake of going by Dealership or the Manufacturers advice on plugs or service replacement schedules.
  5. People have had the issue and it was spotted long before the car was 10 years old. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/448654-paint-corrosion http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/316118-rust-spots-on-boot-lid-is-this-corrosion http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/437555-tailgate-rust http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/461194-fabia-2-tailgate-rust http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/450331-fabia-rear-door-corrosion
  6. @sepulchrave The issue is people like Techs, Mechanics and Forum Members and those that give advice wrongly can cost people their engines. Duff gen that comes from the lack of experience of the engines being discussed and the fundamental design and issues with consumables, OEM or others. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/268627-which-spark-plugs-is-used-as-standard-in-vrs
  7. People really need to be aware you are highly unlikely to see a Twinchargers plugs with more than 1 plug having an issue. The plug that gets fouled with oil and carbon and has the tip burned off. Crap design of the inlet manifold is an issue. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/421161-vrs-spark-plug-tip-missing http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/461905-fabia-vrs-mkii-spark-plug-fail-new-engine-help-advice Stuff like posted there by @sepulchravehas been an issue since 2009. Technicians / mechanics have said the exact same thing. That is why the CAVE was discontinued, but before that the OEM plug type and gap was changed, then with the CTHE plenty again used plugs other than the OEM. With tuning they changed the gap with the plugs used. Some learn by others mistakes & experience. That can be the Manufacturers, the mechanical engineers / technicians or those that just learn stuff on forums etc. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/371770-spark-plugs-for-mk2-fabia-vrs http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/327074-miss-fire-now-its-eaten-the-spark-plugs

  9. A pat on the back if you can tell us which road she is driving on with the unusual road marking. (I can tell you where it is if you are interested) I wonder if she had switched the Lane keeping assist off.
  10. A very good guide to changing the plugs in a 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twincharger. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/462285-spark-plug-guide
  11. Ask you local Motor Factor to get them. or Maybe use a BRISKODA Sponsor. So a trusted seller. http://www.opieoils.co.uk http://briskoda.net/forums/forum/350-opie-oils
  12. PS Sorry, now 2 people have reported issues with the DENSO. @thomasaspin Was your winter driving issue with the DENSO plugs before or after you had a new engine fitted under warranty, and was that with the engine standard or modified, & what gap had you the plugs at. Also was it the SKJ 20 or the VK20 plugs you had? Everyone needs to ask advice sometimes at the start of their learning journey. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/337700-oem-spark=plugs-vrs
  13. Buy from a trusted seller. If running a tuned 1.4 tsi / tfsi twincharger then best say as the recommendation for spark plugs can be different. Only one member here has reported issues with the DENSO in the past 10 years and no idea if they were actual genuine ones. Avoid the NGK's. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/246959-ngk-brk7eix-2667
  14. @dfsuperbHow much does a VW ID.4 start at in Ireland. They are to start @ £37,800 in the UK. The difference between a diesel and an EV is the price of fuel and running them for some people depending on the cost of charging. What difference does it make with taxation in Ireland for a business user, or even a private user between a Diesel or an EV? EDIT. Grants. http://www.seai.ie/grants/electric-vehicle-grants/grant-amounts
  15. ? So you have done the fuel pump since the car was last starting and now it is not starting, is that right? & the plugs changed since it was started as well? ? Why the fuel pump change, and what spark plugs have you fitted, and are the coils on OK and the pipes back on with no issue with the O rings?
  16. @Jamievrs2011A van certainly should be able to start a car with a 1,390 cc petrol engine, so were they professional jump leads of a good quality? Many jump leads are not good enough to start a car. I have had Twinchargers not start if they did not do a nice strong crank and start right way. EDIT. I was posting as you posted about the jump leads used.
  17. The OP says that the plugs, fuel filter and fuel pump were changed and the car was running, and then air filter checked. Old fuel in tank though. New fuel added, running for 1 hour....... My first thought was lack of battery power and even still with jump leads from a van unless good jump leads and really a good nice turning over. What is interesting was before the plugs and fuel filter and fuel pump was fitted were there attempts at starting and did it start or was the first starting after these replacements were carried out.
  18. VW Group made quick petrol estates back in 2014 and still do now. Now the need is to have low average Co2 emissions so they will be with a DSG or Auto mainly and with hybrid mode these days. There is hardly a petrol family estate anyplace that can not deal with modern UK traffic speeds, overtaking and a 60 mph NSL.

A 'simply clever' move is to fit Alloys / Diamond cut 'look' alloys that are not actually diamond cut and maybe even have plastic inserts that do not corrode / get white spider. Aero wheels because it is an EV but with tyres with a bit of sideways where the rubber is giving some protection so that means the first error parking does not mean scored rims. eg
  20. 1st gear is pretty low and left in 1st manual it can still change up, as putting in S can. (You can go into manual 1st, floor the car and the DSG will do up shifts rather than just stay in 1st, 2nd etc) Putting it is S means it will go to a higher RPM but might happily crawl along and not change up to 2nd.

@SchtumIs the procedure you posted not just to alter the setting from the factory setting on cars with the XDS functioning. As i and others have done on Fabia Mk2. As in reducing or increasing it or putting it off? http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/227295-who-needs-a-lsd
  22. @MiniMan64Getting it on a dyno when you can will be a good idea and then you will know what you actually have since you are making a declaration to your insurers that the car has been re-mapped.

IMO looks come very far down the list of important things that might have someone buying a Skoda over another model from a VW Group brand or any other manufacturer. Most important to many will be the build quality, and reliability / longevity of the hardware and the efficiency of the vehicle. Software that is actually tried and tested and the features in the vehicle actually working straight from the delivery and the employees in a dealership knowing what they are. Bling and plastic chrome and trinkets should not take priority over the function of the hardware and software. 'Simply clever' is heating and demisting that works. Door and hatch seal that seal, charging port flaps that do not freeze closed. Tyre sizes readily available and dealerships that know what the vehicles are and how to service them or diagnose issues and tell Skoda of any and Skoda be quick to address them. Lets hope when it rain that the H20 does not run into the cabin off the roof if the doors are opened and if it is wet or damp and then freezes outside the doors do not freeze closed if the vehicle is not pre-heating the interior. PS Lets hope the drivers controls suit the car being right hand drive and delivered to right hand drive countries. PPS If you need to add aftermarket wind deflectors to a EV to be able to sit in the car in adverse weather and no water or snow come in be that on your own or with passenger human or animal and charging and the interior glass not steam up if the car is on or not on then really the designers and engineers have a 'Fail'.
  24. When the car has sat awhile with the doors closed are you hearing the fuel pump prime when you open the drivers door? That is just opening the door, no key in the ignition.
