  1. This has always been a Grey Area. You can do whatever you like and if a Bike Carrier bracket AKA as tow bar is only to fit a rack to and carry stuff. Bikes or tote boxes. Between you and the warranty underwriter Re bar and electrics. A tow bar installer fitting a Tow Bar and ball is a different matter from a DIY,r and they know the legislation covering them doing it.
  2. Make contact with them. Their name certainly does not reflect that they also do rear cycle carriers and tow ball mounted as well as hatch mounted. Quality items readily available, but then not all modern rear hatches are suitable to hang a rack and bikes onto.
  3. @fr1nklynAre you doing lots of offroad driving? The interval for the DSG's with VW, Seat & Skoda oil changes certainly do not appear to cause any issues for millions of boxes. Audi give the recommendation of 38,000. It is everybodys choice to decide what they want to spend on preventative maintenance & servicing as only they know how they use a vehicle. The experiences of members here and owners certainly point to the sense in servicing the Haldex more often, but as the DSG wet clutch boxes that is more questionable.
  4. @fr1nklynSmall point but the DSG oil change interval is at 40,000 miles / 64,300 km. The Haldex schedule is at 3 years, so people need to think what miles / km they are doing or just how poor VW Group Recommendations are and do it sooner. It was 4 year intervals with VW before being brought down to 3 years, and that happened with VW before Skoda got around to it.
  5. A used Up!MiiCitigo ASG really needs to be checked out before buying a used one and get a 12 months warranty with one that will cover the Box. I have driven the original e-Up and the new ones, and a Citigo iV and Mii electric and would happily own one for using as a daily drive. It is a real shame they are not going to continue the production of the Citigo iV's. For a while the e-Up's were pretty reasonably priced and fine if someone just wanted a runabout for not going far between charges, but people seem more interested in buying the early ones now. Motability are offering the Mii electric for no advance payment this quarter, but they are doing others as well for £0 or low advance payments.
  6. I only drive Autos or Servo Cutch cars. I used to do Warranty Paint repairs and sometimes had to do Courtesy car accident repairs on Citigo,s so drove those with ASG,s. No mechanical sympathy given to them.
  7. It is good that there are choices. I have been 19 stone without a leg and am now back eventually to 16 stone and have has everything from Original Mini's before there was Motability it was Invalidity and went from Blue Trikes to Minis and then they started doing Metros. I started dealing in Mini Auto's back then bought at auction at 3 years old. The Autos available were pretty limited back in the 1970's that you could have from Motability with big advance payments. I nearly always have a small or smaller car and always a bigger one for towing car trailers as a minimum. Auto Volvo 343's, Daf's, Strada's, Clio's, Citigo, Iq, Picanto and Jimny autos suiting me well as i use my left foot to drive and do not change pedals from standard as that makes going from car to car very easy. PS The ASG in the Citigo is the worst Automated Manual i have ever used next to ones in a Smart.
  8. It happens in the UK all the time. Vauxhall, Ford & VW Group first registering cars to stay in the top 5 or 10 for a quarter or a year. Also so that cars that are pathetic sellers will have the manufacturer / importer first register at least 50 in a month so that buyers of new cars are not put off ordring. This also helps manipulate the Parkers / Autotrader type guides on Used car prices as they are actually new cars then sold as Used. They were only new to the Manufacturer. Skoda will be making sure there are Media Cars, cars sold or leased to the Emergency Services / Fleet, Hire Car Companies at special prices not available to private buyers. Keep turning these around regularly and bump the numbers of cars First Registered and then Used cars into the market. Have the 'Sales tables' looking good when it is 'First Registered' and not actually 'Cars sold' other than to The Manufacturers themselves. Last year early in lockdown Vauxhall have 2 demonstrator e-Corsa out to each Dealership and 1 or 2 first registered and more being in transit but these never got First Registered and the cars ordered by Motability were not delivered. (Lots of Ex Demonstrator / Pre Reg e-Corsa sitting needing sold.) That did not stop the SMMT in the UK saying how high the Electric Car Sales were and how the percentage first registered was higher with EV's. That was TESLA and others doing Click & Collect, Delivery to your door and Vauxhall lending cars to the NHS or Front Line Staff. So much kidology goes on with First Registering, or as Skoda did a few years back 'Car Manufactured' to get them over a Million Cars sold in a year. They manufactured over 1 million maybe, but sold some of them to themselves / VW Group not to Paying Individuals..
  9. It is impressive if the cars are on the road with buyers that paid Dealerships for cars to drive or lease companies have bought to lease out and they are on the road. Not so impressive if it was a case of Skoda / VW Group getting cars first registered to get the low average C02 emissions that Skoda require. So cars at Dealership, with Skoda / VW Group employees etc & owned by VW Finance to be sold as used cars soon.
  10. Typing Skoda Superb Mk2 Owners Manual ebay into google or whatever, (or put a wanted ad in Briskoda.) Usually shows owners manuals for sale. If it is a service book that is wanted then change the key words on the search engine of choice.
  11. As far as the heated seats go there was a Service Campaign for them and the switch which some owners were never made aware of by dealership staff. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions If outstanding it may show here. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/417427-heated-seats-a-burning-issue
  12. Just see what the offer is with a Dealer, then with WBAC or others that buy and then Briskoda can be a good place to sell a Skoda because people know what they are after. The dealership employee might just be offering a bit less than they know they (the dealership) can get at WBAC or whoever they go and check what it is worth to them punting it off to auction or someplace else in their motor group. I would price up the car you are interested in without ever mentioning that you have a Trade In. Get all the figures, cash or finance and the best deal they are offering. Get the salesperson licking their lips. Then when they want to know if you can sign for it that day then say 'What about my car, are you interested'. Pees them and that 'virtual manager' they have been twice back to the office to get you the best offer right off.
  13. Never heard the term and i have been going to Limb Fitting Centres since i was 17. I met Douglas Bader at one as my limb fitter had done legs for him. I think someone with a disability knows that they will know best what suits them. Funnily it sometimes take Salespeople at Dealerships that are supposedly the 'Specialist' a while to realise that and not assume stuff.
  14. ^^^ Matt doing his usual in telling the official 0-60 mph time is 5.4 seconds where Porsche say the 0-62 mph sprint is 5.4 seconds. It is just what he does regularly and he seems to ignore the comments on it on youtube.
  15. That is what others do when looking to buy or when they have bought.
  16. The Motability Website search for a car section is very good for showing door opening angles, sill height, floor height, seat height, head space etc etc. Douglas Badder types actually exist and may have different needs for pedal spacing, sill to floor height and many other things. Then a person with arthritis might have very different needs, and there are many reasons drivers or passengers have differing needs for vehicles and access. A wheel chair bound person might drive a 3 door and slide there seat forward to get their chair into the rear. Some should maybe walk in others shoes before being glib. Being abled body really might give no understanding of others needs. Even an understanding of taller, shorter, bigger or smaller people's requirements. A Zoe or Leaf are very good for access for lots of people, hence popular for those Leasing through Motability. Available used at quite good prices. PS I had a Smart for a while but the access and seat to floor height was not suitable really for me. Best for me were Jimny,s so I had those over 18 years as well as other cars. That was my daily driver for local use , Easy in and out. PPS CVT,s have certainly not died out and there are some very good ones about. The new small Honda Hybrids are worth checking out, and any new Smart 3 or 5 door are EV only unless a unregistered petrol is sitting someplace.
  17. Have they measured it and know it is stretched / elongated? More likely the issue is the chain tensioner from the sitting so long and then starting. But then they will be replacing both. With the CTHE engines there is a TPI covering the chain and tensioner. There was none for the CAVE cars.
  18. Fitting seats in a Van is not as simple a matter as fitting seats and belts and has costs greater than the seats and seat belts, the van is registered as a van, well light commercial / 2 seater. Fitting seats requires the Insurance Provider being aware of the modification and agreeing to providing insurance. Easiest is to buy a 'Caddy Life' or a 'Caddy Maxi Life 'and remove the seats if you want to use as a Van. Plenty available. Even ones that were converted as a Wheel Chair Carrying vehicle with a ramp are not that expensive now. Many will be over 5 years old and have been vehicles leased through Motability' so for 5 years rather than for 3. As to a Yeti as a van, that is not uncommon. The Van version was available in Ireland, and a DIY is simple. If the seats are not in at a UK MOT then the belts are not part of the MOT. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/447834-yeti-used-as-a-van http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/239532-yeti-van-brother http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/422585-yeti-van http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/486314-yeti-commercial http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/385688-possible-new-works-van If looking at a 1.6TDI CR best check out the Emissions Fix. The Caddy's were among the first done by VW in the UK because many were Lease or Fleet vehicles, there were plenty drivers or owners buying used ones reporting adverse affects on the vehicle with the emission fix at the time. Pictures are from the Yeti Commercial thread in the links above.
  19. It sounds like they were ragging it less than yourself if the range only dropped 50 miles but 97 miles driven. Or, they put 5 or 6 litres of petrol in.
  20. @sepulchrave You have got it totally wrong about me and Fabia Mk2 vRS. they never cost me a penny, i made money on them. I do body work / paint and mechanics mechanic and anything covered by warranty would go to a Dealership. I do not pay for techs or mechanics sorting cars bought to sell, i barter my time for theirs. I will listen to someone saying the same as Skoda / VW group and technicians said if they can see the bigger picture. There are none as blind as those that will not see. The thing is i bought and sold twinchargers, ones that were rejects because oil users or because they were not getting fixed. Sold them to people i know and know how they ran when fixed, and the fixes were easy as the faults were easily identified and nothing major. I know where the cars are i bought and only one is no longer on the road as written off. Sorry if i can not be bothered listening to someone that can not see the actual engineering faults that VW designed and engine issues and why the first editions were discontinued and then the 2nd version. There are original cars around with the original engines and issue free, it is simple to know what can save a CAVE or CTHE engine from having faults, issues or failures. If VW Group had bothered actually getting the fundamental faults right it would have been 'Simply Clever'. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/294051-cave-cthe-14tsi-just-reply-please-if-you-have-had-an-engine-replaced
  21. @sepulchrave Nail on the head, some did not. But take them in hot and the mot is done with the engine running so hot when it goes on the rollers and then gets the probe up the tail pipe then an easy pass. Or if a fail, take it out get it to operating temp and in and retest and a pass. What makes a difference is actually running cars and getting them tested or just sitting and saying to some one that is nuts. You have seen everything under the sun, have you ever opened the bonnet of a 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-136 kW twincharger or even driven one? http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/480357-over-fuelling-emissions-high-cave http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/317251-skoda-fabia-rs-2012-rough-idle A 1.2 TSI. so OT. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/462665-mot-failure-fast-iddle-emissions Lucifers Ultimate Guide Part 1 & 2 are in the pinned thread at the top of the Mk2 Fabia Section if anyone fancies reading it.
  22. They run rich when cold and just bumbling around, especially a CAVE vRS on the factory engine management / map. Hence healthy ones often have a sooty tail pipe and after giving them a bit of hard acceleration there can be a blast of soot out of the exhaust system if it has not been getting much of accelerations going on for a while. The issue is often below 3,500 rpm under hard acceleration so with supercharger and turbo both in use. 95 ron being used might never be an issue to the driver and plenty run just that and could not care less. Plenty had issues running 95 ron, or 97, or 98 when you got it, or with 99. But when you had the plugs oiling, then 3 cleaning with some driving and heat the one plug that gets carboned up it the one that is prone to failure. Not anecdotal just how it has been for over a decade now. There have been cases of standard twinchargers failing a MOT, even a first MOT if not done at a Skoda Dealership MOT Station, even failing at a MOT station and passing if retested at a Skoda or VW Dealership. People learn after it happens once. Then Modified / remapped ones can have a failure, or sometimes a examiner says the car has been modified even when not. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/480567-14-twin-charged-emissions-failure I see an old car i had failed a MOT yet again on the examiner not knowing it had side / position light that are also the DRL's, and again they failed it on emissions. When i had it and the examiner tried to fail it because it had a decat which it did not i just changed the switchable APR map and said go try it again. That was a pass. As were the sidelights,
