Seems sensible (VED petition)
I'm thinking my only actual expenditure 'might' be two wheel bolts and a couple of dodgy ol' car mats 😁 (The rest of it would come from my 2018 GTI donor car 👍). Heck, I could have the whole restoration done in five minutes!

Seems sensible (VED petition)
Can't help but wonder, if I buy a 1984 car, and gradually replace the engine, drivetrain, shell, interior, electrics, so basically everything until just a few bolts (and maybe a car mat) remain, would that exceptionally well restored car, that'll have very distinct similarities to my 2018 GTI (or V70, depending on which one's being hammered the most for VED) be exempt under the 40 year exemption? '... the UK's legally binding climate targets' - so we might, or we might not, it's just a target. Does that not say we're legally bound to achieve whatever we end up achieving, or not achieving? 🙄 Gaz

2016 Mk3 L&K Right Front Wing
Pretty sure it is just bolts Dave. I'm sure I've watched Dean (Saving Salvage on YT) taking one off the Mk3 he was recently working on. There's at least one in the door jamb adjacent to the front door hinges. Sorry to hear about the damage 😳 Is it worth having it repaired? My local coach builder charges about £400 a panel to remove any size of dent. A lot of people say that's expensive, but I'm very particular, so expect to pay a premium to get the results I want. Gaz Edit: Not the video I was thinking of, but this looks helpful:

After 4 years of ownership, my PHEV goes back to Peugeot. My thoughts.
Gorra be surely - or a variant thereof? Unless it’s a … it’s a V12 Vitara 😁 But if I’m a guessin’, I’m still sticking to my guns - Hyundai i30 🤷♂️ Gaz

Potential purchase: MK3 Octavia vRS estate
I had a 2015 vRS TSI (Yes, the EA888 is chain driven, and the diesel a belt) DSG (DQ250 as Evolution13 has already pointed out) and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. The DQ250 is a better DSG than the DQ381 in my opinion and has aged better in terms of overall reliability. Weak points are few. Some of the TDI's get coolant pump issues, which there's a thread on in the Octavia 3 section. It'll also be worth reading up on the 'Mit Silikat' issues - some cars have an oblong bag of (usually) pink silicate granules in their coolant header tank. These bags can rupture and cause sometimes costly headaches, in clearing the blockages caused (usually the heater matrix) and restoring cabin heat. There are several threads on this particular issue, but it's relatively straightforward to remove the bag, and if you're inclined, change the coolant to G12 Evo. Very versatile cars 👍 I had mine mapped to just north of 300bhp, which gave it a fair bit more pep. Gaz TDI water pump thread: Silicate bag thread (one of many):

Oh for flips flippin' sake 🙄: I'd clocked it when I went for diesel, so made a mental note. Then obviously had a momentary lapse of reason. V70 starting to catch up with the GTI. It's like the tortoise and the hare 😁 Gaz

Major sunroof leak!
If the roof is sitting where it should be, you can use electrical tape to bridge the gaps between the sunroof and car roof to prevent further water ingress. I did it once on a Prelude that had a terrible continence issue. It was one of the most professional looking fixes I’ve done - lasted all winter 👍

Undiagnosed rubbing/vibrating sound when cornering left
That’s a head scratcher. I was going to go with the obvious wheel bearing or tyre rubbing. Has anyone had the front of the car off the ground to see if it does it at the same speed with the car actually stationary (i.e. without lateral cornering load on the car)? Not something as simple as a loose wheel arch liner? Nor the power steering groaning? Gaz

Hyundai i30? 😁 Edit: But on a slightly more serious note, one of the Toyota Yaris sized crossovers - Starlet Cross or Urban Cruiser (just looked up its name).

Roomster - sometimes slow to pull away, is this normal?
The OP’s car is in the UK, and so far as I’m aware will have the DQ200 fitted.

Car ticking noise
Any work done to the brakes or drive shafts/CV gaitors & joints recently? Wheel bolts all tight? I’m beginning to think it might be best left to a mechanic/garage to investigate. Gaz

Car ticking noise
Does the noise change if you brake? Does it do it while coasting, rather than under load? Is it more pronounced on cornering? Is it more noticeable on full lock at parking speed, either forward or reverse? Have you checked your tyres for stones/nails/screws or other foreign bodies? Gaz

Drivers side heater cold
That's a good point that hadn't crossed my mind. I suppose it'll depend on whether it's proper old school manual, or if the flaps are still motorised (and thus potentially resettable). A scan might help identify if there's a motor sticking, or another fault at play. Apologies if my suggestion was a duff steer. Gaz
