2015 Polo GTI - identifying a failing coil pack
Well the EPC made a re-appearance, so I changed the coil pack a few days ago. Must've taken a whole four minutes to do, start to finish. Plugs are all good 👍 and Mrs Gaz got 46.9mpg on her 18 mile commute this morning, which is none too shabby. Happy Wife, happy life 😀 Gaz

Visually etc. My car of the day -today
Seen this afternoon in Maresfield, East Sussex: Bit lopsided and with a dodgy 'zorst, otherwise looked in quite nice nick 😎 Gaz

It's neither a goodbye nor a hello!
It was a 2.5 V6, so it was obviously those extra two pots that were the thirsty ones! I’ve always liked to regularly explore my cars potential, even now I’m also retired. Mrs Gaz suggested we come down to one car, so I bought another one instead 🤣 That’ll learn her (not!). Gaz

It's neither a goodbye nor a hello!
So I've been told. It was as an explanation for why my back brake pads wore out long before the fronts, which they did, contrary to my expectations. This is on a 2018 Golf GTI, so might be different again on a 2021 Superb. Gaz

It's neither a goodbye nor a hello!
ACC is one of my favourite options on the Golf 👍 It's helpful in stopping me speeding too. Wears the back brake pads out mind as it uses the electronic parking brake for slowing - small price to pay IMO. Gaz

Pete's Rescue Roomster
Never had one, but I've always had a soft spot for Roomy's, and a mild hankering. Dunno why 🤷♂️ Wishing you many happy hours of tinkering 👍 Gaz

It's neither a goodbye nor a hello!
Aww, Stratford-upon-Avon is one of my fave places - we like coming up to the RSC 😎 My mind still boggles a bit at a petrol Superb doing 54mpg. My diesel Mk1 Superb's long term average was 31mpg. Gaz

Route to the Soth of France
We went down the East side on our way to Italy, so obviously went a different direction to you after Saint Quentin, but we got a Toll-Tag for the journeys there and back and it made such a difference - well worth the money 👍 I love driving in France, such a pleasure compared to the mostly shoite roads we've got 🙄 Gaz

Knocking Sound Under Bonnet – Need Advice!
If it's not rotational as Gerrycan has asked, could it be your bonnet knocking on its stops or at the latch? Drop links creaking? Bonnet release cable rattling? Radiator nice and firm? Can you make it do it while stationary - someone in the driver's seat, the other bouncing the car? Can you replicate it without rolling, but taking up drive and then letting off, so rocking the engine with its own energy? Gaz

Got out on my bike this afternoon for a nice ride. Out in the middle of Pevensey marshes, it felt like I had the place all to myself: Nothing to hear but birdsong and water running over a small lock gate 😎 Gaz

Mrs Gaz has decided she wants a new (to her) car
Good thought, thanks Lee 👍 I started looking - rims are currently 17". There was an indication 16" are possible without changing brakes, found some rims, but when I try to match them with tyres I get a no: I did find a comment on a Polo owners site that 16" affects the drivability in a negative way. Mrs G said she liked the idea of an ix35/Tucson, but those in her price range are all 2.0 TDI's, which she doesn't want. She also surprised me by saying she doesn't want a Mini - 20 years ago she really wanted one, now it's a no-no. Her current Polo replaced a Mazda 3, which btw is still going strong. Mrs G asked what our Daughter's Fiancé's car is, as she likes it, just not the colour (white). It's a Mazda 3 🤷♂️ Gaz

Mrs Gaz has decided she wants a new (to her) car
Mrs Gaz loves her Polo GTI, but the state of the roads means her lower back and coccyx want something a little less, well GTI, and a bit more compliant and comfortable. She doesn't want GTI performance any more, but doesn't want a wheeze bucket either. Five door, slightly bigger boot than her Polo 6 would be a bonus. Petrol, automatic/DSG, not a manual, 16" wheels max. (wants some sidewall). No bigger than my Golf (7.5). Heated seats would be great, and aircon/climate is a must. She wants to buy something with what she gets for her Polo, and I've told her not to expect anything better than what she already has. £7k budget, give or take I reckon. So far, I've suggested; Auris, I20, I30, Focus, Fabia, Golf, Fiesta, ix35/Tucson, CX30, Civic, Juke, Mini, but I'm interested in what I'm missing, so thoughts and suggestions please. She won't have a Yaris, Micra, Note or Jazz. Probably nothing from Vauxhall or the PSA group. Think a Swift will be too small. Says she doesn't like 'boxy' cars. Gaz

Replacement engine help!
Agreed - have the garages said what is wrong, to explain why they've concluded it's new engine time? A lot can be done to repair an existing engine. Sometimes it's better the devil you know. On the bright side, CXXB is quite common and fitted to a range of VAG vehicles. I'd think going for one from a Golf (or maybe a Seat) is a good shout in order to avoid taxi's or van engines, but that's never any guarantee as to a replacement engine's overall condition. Getting one with a known background, service history, and warranty is probably the best you can aim for. Gaz

Gearbox Service Help
I don't know if it's any help, but my GTI (DQ250) is coming up for its 40k service. Although it now goes to a trusted indy for servicing, I'll be taking it to VW for the DSG. It just seems to make sense (to me at least). Gaz
