  1. Based on my research into battery testing (see post #20), I don't understand how they can read a voltage and claim a "pass"?! I see no reason why you can't name the dealer. Obviously it would be unwise, if anything above could be deemed libellous, in so much that they could prove without doubt it to be untrue. EDIT: Another non-start for me last week after a CTEK recondition about a month ago and "normal" usage patterns. I must get to my local dealer and see what approach they take.
  2. It can also be changed to open all doors with one click by someone near you using VCDS or taking it to the dealer. If it's a recent purchase then the dealer should do this as a goodwill gesture. With MFD cars it is also key dependant, so one key can be set to open the driver's door on one click and the other key can be set to open all doors. I don't know if this applies to the S model, but it would be worth taking both keys along to check.
  3. I'm not too familiar with Samsung's but can you unpair the phone from the car (on both the car and phone), disable rSAP in the phone's Bluetooth connections menu and then try connecting it using HFP?
  4. I can't comment on the quality difference (but seems fine to me). The Superb II umbrella self-dries when it's in the door compartment, the water drains along a channel through the door and out near the B pillar, so the cover would hinder that from happening.
  5. Agreed, your air vent was not fit for purpose and didn't last a reasonable time. But any claim under SoG needs to be made to the supplying dealer (retailer) not Skoda. Don't let them cloud the issue by bringing warranties into it. The existance of a warranty does not affect your statutory rights.

  7. I did a lot of research when spec'ing my rear side airbags. No one will give you a definitive answer but after reviewing as much info as I could, I made the decision that they were safer with them than without them. The design of the car seat keeps the child a certain distance from the air bag, so they would be safer than a child or adult sitting right next to the door.   8. I can't speak for other models or specs but the buttons for the power windows in the rear doors on my car are constantly disabled using the safety switch on the drivers door and yet all three 12-volt sockets are live constantly.
  9. After a very boring Xmas day at the mother-in-law's, I thought I'd share a summary of some of my learnings gleaned on batteries. The caveat being that anything you read on the internet is only worth what you've paid for it (this info was all free) and I've been drinking since 10.30am to ease the pain. Firstly - there are several ways that you can test a battery's CCA and capacity but garages and battery specialists mostly can only test CCA to an accuracy of 70% and there's no reliable way to measure capacity without sending it to a lab, you can only really get an estimate using resistance. Therefore whatever load test a dealer/RAC can do is fairly unreliable. A battery can show a good CCA but actually have a poor capacity. Second - sticking with CCA tests, the results rely on the technician punching the correct battery CCA into the test equipment (i.e. 600 CCA), therefore an unscrupulous auto-technician could plug in 900 CCA, test your battery in front of you and then show you a readout of 33% and recommend they sell you a new battery. Third - there is a lot of scientists that don't think that desulphation can be fixed using pulse charging or chemical addicitves. Too complex and lengthy to do either 'for' or 'against' justice here, but lots of patents, court cases, advertising guidelines means that it's a really grey area. In retrospect, I note that CTEK word their claims carefully (though I'm happy that the one I've ordered remains an excellent all-round charger regardless). Fourth - here's a really clear youtube guide to finding parasitic current drain. Some of it obvious plus some really good tips for the layman. There are lots of others but this seems to cover all the points very well. Hope that helps any others going stir crazy with boredom or battery problems. P.S. Merry Christmas
  10. Will do. I've got a few minor things I want the dealer to look at (phantom seats, white worm badges, etc) so I'll be arranging to take it in in the new year. But I've also just ordered a CTEK MXS 5.0 and cigarette socket adapter, so I'll hold off running the recon cycle before Skoda have tested it.
  11. Had to jump start mine this morning. Third time in 20 months of ownership. Always in winter and after a few short trips but still unexpected based on previous cars and usage patterns. I think this thread compounds my suspicions. After three occasions of deep discharge it's probably done some damage.

  13. I can't help with the CD playback issue but someone will no doubt be along soon who might. The map update on the Skoda website is for new Columbus systems currently only installed in the new Octavia and not suitable for the version in the Superb. There isn't an official free map update for the Superb but plenty of reliable unofficial versions.

"Display correction of fuel gauge" option immediately below it, adjusts the fuel gauge needle angle.

  18. I agree with what you say and thank you for all the information. However, I still question their positioning on the website that says:- "We understand that being involved in an accident and having to deal with lots of companies can be really stressful and time consuming. That’s why we’ve designed Ensurance to take care of everything for you." No one should think for a moment that they designed Ensurance for that reason! As you say, an increase in workshop revenue is one reason. And therefore as with most commercial marketing situations there is an element of fooling going on. If it didn't make a difference then there would just be a direct link to the Ageas website. Don't get me wrong - I think it sounds like a good thing if used correctly and I intend to sign up.
  19. A very valid point. The claiming party has an obligation to mitigate costs and if it all gets messy it will be down to a judge to decide what is reasonable. Courtesy cars should be fine but it's when they start offering like-for-like replacements on credit hire agreements that it can go badly wrong. If the claim can't be settled it will be your signature on the credit hire agreement and not Skoda Ensurance. So as others have said, a nice service but use with caution. Skoda aren't offering this out of their kindness and love for their customers. Don't be fooled by the Skoda branding, there will be a claims management business sitting behind it (possibly RAC given the links already in place for roadside recovery).
  20. I have the same firmware and mine behaves in exactly the same way. I just thought it was a rubbish processer or sloppy coding. I'm interested to hear it's not normal. I have upgraded to v9 maps, maybe I'll get around to v10 maps and firmware upgrade this winter. I have a TomTom cradle mount on the drivers central air vent. HD traffic is far superior than the Columbus TMC, but interestingly the Columbus' rerouting is faster. Navs are always about traffic info rather than route planning for me. Now Google Maps (and Apple Maps) are providing the same TomTom HD traffic informatiom for smartphones for free*, I'm ditching the TomTom mount for an iPhone cradle. * data charges may apply

  22. I rarely need the function, so for me it would just be increasing the likelihood of a motor wearing out in the future. But Skoda should really make it an option activated by the MFD. All the tech is there, it just needs a extra bit of code. There's a few threads on folding mirrors, including some suggested fixes if they stop folding in with a 2 second press. Dropping all four windows down and back up was one.
  23. Rather than the MDI retrofit, I'd prioritise on replacing the Bluetooth module. Once you've paired your iPhone you can then scroll through the MFD and add the iPhone (or iPod) as a media device and play tracks that way. Bluetooth as a source becomes available on the Columbus (to the right of Aux). Volume is on a par with other inputs (radio, CD, SD), track names are displayed on the Columbus. Navigation is limited to skip tracks back and forth as far as I can establish, but that seems to be the only downside versus the MDI.
