  1. Part No for OEM Black Geminis is here: 5E0601025AK FL8 - I believe that these are still diamond cut but black instead of anthracite paint colour.
  2. You can see all of the parts available/required using online EKTA site such as this one: https://www.realoem.me/Skoda/CZ/OCT/2013/753/R/9 About 2/3 down the page.
  3. To be honest ‘perception of quality’ is very subjective. Agree that the Golf R is very solid, but isn’t the 8” Nav unit in the current R and Cupra identical? And when comparing equivalent spec models (R Estate vs Cupra ST) £7-8k price difference for them new after discounts - whilst my heart said R, my head made me choose the Cupra in the end. Whilst I appreciate that in the short term depreciation will be a killer, I will most likely keep the car for 4-5 years, so not overly worried. And by the way the Octy VRS isn’t exactly bullet-proof on residuals for the Mk3! However, my thoughts as an owner of an FR Leon and VRS Octy (soon to be replaced with a Cupra ST 300): Agree that the matt black plastic in the Leon, is a bit dull and low-rent, especially the cubby in front of the gear lever / transmission tunnel - but it doesn’t scratch anything like the faux carbon gloss trim in the VRS, which I’m constantly removing to polish out the scratches. When I first bought the Leon the rattles were bad for a new car, but with a roll of fabric and foam tape applied liberally around the bottom of the A-pillars and behind the door cards the car is now greatly improved. Although the Octy didn’t suffer with rattles from new, at 4.5 years old they are starting to appear around the B-pillar and front seatbelt mounts/height adjuster. The biggest plus for the Leon over the Octy is the quality of the seat material - Leon has done 84k miles (14k more than the Octy) but the seats look and feel brand new. The Octy has signs of wear on the seat bolsters (creases and colour loss) and the fabric has bobbled. Feel free to agree/disagree, after all, this is why this forum is great - these are purely my observations.
  4. Yes, first world problems!!! I will definitely miss the size of the Octavia, in particular the rear cabin space for the kids - however, I have specified the boot net option, so the useable boot space available should be mitigated. Only other option I’ll miss is the heated front windscreen - living in the damp/cold North UK it’s perfect for lazily clearing the screen from frost/ice/snow.
  5. I too have just placed a deposit on a Leon ST Cupra 300 4Drive - I wonder how many other Octavia owners have switched to other VAG brands due to limited availability of 245 VRS, 4x4 Petrol VRS or a dislike of the Mk3 FL front end?
  6. Can you confirm 09 Cent Elect Pt No for your vehicle?
  7. Thanks for the quick response. Perhaps when I upgrade my own fleet; my mates with flash cars can whistle for a while!!! Cheers.
  8. I’ve been trying to code HBA using VCDS Ver: 18.1.0 and Hex-Can USB cable. Whilst I can select / change adaptations, the long coding for 09 Cent Elect module 5Q0 937 084 CQ is stating “Coding is not supported by this control module variant”. Anyone able to code this module with the same interface?
  9. Hi Mate, I have been in the North East for the past couple of weeks either digging my car out of the snow, or trying to secure a new job, so haven’t been on here for a while, or downloaded the latest Beta version - I’ll download it tomorrow. Will send a PM in a minute.
  10. VAG EA288 2.0ltr Diesel engines are 140,000 miles / 5 Year intervals in UK. This is up from 72,000 / 4 Year intervals on previous generation PD and CR diesel engines. Water pump doesn’t need to be replaced - however, it is the weak link on this engine, and if it lasts to the 5 year point it’s a no brainer to get it replaced at the same time as the belts and pulleys.
  11. As with other comments, water pump can be faulty; however, unlikely to see white smoke unless head or cylinder liner is cracked or head gasket has blown ie. coolant getting into the exhaust side of the engine. Typically it is the water pump gasket or impeller that fails, resulting in high temp/loss of coolant.
  12. Pressing the right hand scrolling button just cancels the FA warning after it has been triggered. This is a reset, not switching off. In terms of the insurance, my company tried to charge me extra for having it as it was an optional extra! Only receive a discount if the whole of the model range has it fitted as standard, like on Mk7 Golf.
  13. You can cancel once activated by depressing the roller switch on the right hand side of the steering wheel - no need to brake, especially as when FA is activated you will have 100% braking power as soon as you depress the brake pedal (its designed to do this to reduce braking distance).
  14. Fairly common practice, especially for parts that can be reconditioned such as alternators, starter motors etc. Any luck in recovering any of the costs for another premature failure of the water pump fitted to the EA288 engine?
  15. Come to the West Meon Hut meet on the first Tuesday of the month - look at the South East Central meeting section. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/128-south-east-central-meets/ I reside in Hampshire during the week and can give you a run down if you would like? PM me with what you would like to do and I’ll give you a quick overview. Also interactive manual is here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/main_screen.php
  16. I love these threads... Regardless of how well trained anyone is mistakes happen. As an aircraft engineer, as aircraft become more advanced, with automated control systems they are statistically safer - I would expect this trend to follow in the automotive sector. The majority of aviation accidents are a result of human factors - pilot error, servicing error etc, not the software controlling them. In the case of pilot error, I would argue that most are as highly skilled as any advanced driver, but I have still lost several colleagues due to such incidents over the years - we are not talking airline pilots here in case you are getting worried. On a personal note, I consider myself a reasonable driver, but admit that I have been caught out previously and the ESP system probably prevented me from crashing my car on one occasion when I hit a patch of black ice.
  17. OP - had the same issue on my car. Sent you a PM. If changing the belt and pump, ensure that the belt tensioner is changed too - I assume that this is part of the belt kit?
  18. Didn’t try this mod Tony - we were trying to sort the HBA; it is the adaptations map and blank bits/bytes in the 09 Cent Conv module that are different (just arrived home now - will post sometime tomorrow). ...and yes this was with the latest software version / genuine cable, albeit older gen hex-usb+can.
  19. Intending to come this evening sans Skoda! Will charge the laptop if any if any coding needs sorting too; I noticed you were unable to sort stuff at the National meet.
  20. Is this just a one off, or has the ‘engine’ light come on previously? If this is a one off and the fault light has extinguished, then the car thinks that there is no longer an issue that will affect the driveability of the car. The DTCs are prioritised from investigate immediately through to check at next service etc. Also, were there any other lights on (sorry on mobile so cannot see your profile for car spec petrol or diesel)? If this is a recurring fault, then obviously need to read the codes. In terms of readers, OBDII or OBD2 Fault Code Reader - either hard wired stand alone versions, USB cables (need a laptop) or Bluetooth which use a smartphone. I have genuine VCDS cable and a generic cheap device. Just an example - cheaper ones around too: KW808 Car Engine Fault Code Reader Diagnostic Reset Tool OBD2 BUS EOBD KONNWEI https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/262636789513
  21. Try some of the VW / Audi / Seat Forums too. Most likely someone in Newcastle area will be able to assist. If its purely for fault code reading/clearing, a cheap DTC code reader from eBay £10-£20 should be fine for this - use the DTC wiki pages on the RossTech or VAG Forums for fault diagnosis.
  22. If there is no visible sign of damage and the car is still in warranty, it is still the dealer’s responsibility to diagnose/repair the front assist radar. The car supplied will come with Skoda assist - call them out to independently assess that the car has not been in an accident / damaged as your evidence for the dealer to investigate.
  23. I am based in NE at the weekends (Darlington/Co Durham Area). If you can’t find anyone closer, you are more than welcome to drive down and I’ll scan the car for you.
  24. If you check the VAG QR Code sticker in the boot (under the boot floor) it will give the info you require... http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?468-VAG-Options-(Data)-Sticker
