the truth about electric cars
I think the i3 RE is one of the few hybrids that got it more right than most in terms of how to use the engine. The engine as a generator model could even use an LPG/CNG generator to recharge the battery, which would have the bonus of being cleaner at point of use in terms of particulate matter etc.

the truth about electric cars
£600 is 300L of derv or approximately 3000 miles assuming a very poor 10MPL/45MPG. If you go up to a more realistic 12MPL/approx 54MPG then you're at 3600 miles per month before you have paid just the cost of leasing an EV. By the time you add in say 10 charges of 50kWh@60p per kWH then it's another £300 (for 1500 miles assuming 3 miles/kWh ) or if it's only 5 public rapid charges then £150 (for 750 miles). Obviously you have cheaper home charging, but if you use the range you are getting hit on time, availability of chargers and cost. That spend is another 75-150L of derv @£2/l, which is another 750-1800 miles depending on what MPG you get and if EV what public charging you do. Like you I really want an electric, to the point I have one on order, however with the lack of infrastructure to charge an EV away from home, then actually it gets really hard to justify throwing that much money per month at one. I can actually see why people go on about hydrogen, because in theory it's a drop in replacement for peoples current habits and time. Of course the infrastructure for that is beyond useless anhd it's not as efficient. It's quite sad, because the cars cost the earth, the infrastructure is terrible, hybrids are a big con and even the economics don't actually stack up vs a diesel with fuel prices at this very high level. I mean even if you put £400 lease on a new diesel, then you're looking at a minimum of £250 extra for an EV every month, which is still 125L/1250 miles.

@Mort From my understanding the fream machine SE has 8 PoE ports and a 10GbE uplink. Assuming you don't need PoE to every port, was there any reason to add a 24 port PoE switch as I have an existing dumb 1GbE switch with an SFP+ port.

the truth about electric cars
Step one is I'm writing to some of them to see if they have plans to improve infrastructure or to stop hybrid hogging. If the responses are essentially no, then it will be another few years with a diesel.

Laptop advice
Currently it's a case of what you can get in stock. I'd look for something with a long battery life, 8-16GB RAM and a reasonably sized SSD. I'd also chuck in a portable USB HDD for your daughter to backup onto and put somewhere safe. The number of people who don't back up the essentials then the laptop gets dropped, soaked, nicked with their data gone is shocking.

the truth about electric cars
To be honest, seeing this at the places I regularly visit is bad. It means for a hybrid driver to save a little fuel a BEV driver has to add a 30+ minute stop and diversion to get home. That assumes public chargers are fast and available. That really makes a BEV much less useful for regular journeys. I am seriously considering cancelling the on order BEV and staying with diesel. Hybrids are terrible for the environment in every way and a general fear of lack of charging or long waits is already putting people off BEV which isn’t a good thing. I found this interesting too: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/opinion/354505/scrap-your-hybrid-diesel-campaign-might-just-happen

the truth about electric cars
I agree not all BEV have green plates, but I’m sure we all get the principle. Hybrids do not need the charge and will make it home, a BEV might not. Even if they do charge it’ll be full in not long. If chargers are at normal bays sure, but when they are EV only parking bays next to chargers it’s just nuts.

the truth about electric cars
Another day another trip where all 8 chargers (mix of 7 and 22kW) were hogged for at least 3 hours by hybrids. Genuinely they need to ban hybrids from dedicated EV charging bays. No green plate, no use of the bays. In itself that would help with charging availability. I didn’t have an EV to charge or I’d have been hopping mad. Clearly one driver was as one of the hybrids had a charger card message under the window. Van wise, it should be mandatory for a business to install at least one >50kW or multiple slower chargers at each major site if they want to get the tax benefits vs diesel.

If I've adding ubiquity wifi access points, then I'll be buying a controller, so would buy one with the NVR in it and the rest. Hence if I'm going to do it I'd do it with the wifi system as I'd be changing all those parts anyway...

I did think the V3 was a bit "over toyed", with loads of options that brought limited value and huge wheels to cut the range Not that I went that route, although there's a long lead time on everything, so it'll be a long while before I go electric.

I saw the G4 Pro and yes it looks interesting, certainly could see a use for a small number of those covering the outdoor areas from a higher level. It's definately something to look into when I next upgrade the wifi system. I was looking previously but the ubiquity were not yet 802.11ax compliant and since I have an old AC system there was no point. The wifi upgrade was likely between a draytek and an ubiquiti system, so I'll keep an eye out an when they both support everything I want I'll probably combine the two systems Do the Ubiquiti support any AI type features, such as facial recognition, ANPR or identification of person/vehicle/animal etc?

Domestic charging points - A new social dividing line?
England needs to get on with energy storage, probably a combination of hydrogen and batteries as part of the national grid. It's madness that they're getting people to turn the wind farms "off" during times of high usage. To be honest it comes back to the UK needing to own a fair chunk of it's national infrastructure again rather than having it run for profit by companies (Usually state owned) from all over the world.

FYI, it isn't the doorbell we are after, but the cameras you can place around which have movement detection. The idea is to put one up front to do both duties. How is the night vision on the ubiquiti? Out of interest do you require a suitable Ubiquity NVR? If so this is probably something I'd look into when upgrading the wifi system to a WPA3/AX based system as you can then do a few central bits in a single go.

Currently investigating: - Arlo Ultra/Ultra2 (4k recording if you pay for the subscription every month) - Nest camera systems which have a 4k sensor and save a 1080p image from this. (Apparantly gives better movement pictures) - The Ring spotlight camera (which is only 1080, gives good outline images, but lacks facial detail) As you say, it's not really for capturing high levels of detail, but when you look at a PoE wired NVR system to get 8MP (4k) with a couple of cameras and a decent NVR then you start paying big money. I would imagine that as you say it's going to be something in the short term and save up for the decent cameras when chip availability improves. Even the most expensive of the above options, with 5 years of subscription would be less than half the price of a wired system.

Domestic charging points - A new social dividing line?
London, with another cross rail coming, whilst the rest of the country get next to nothing… Still I’m sure charging infrastructure in London will benefit the whole country 🙄🙄🙄 Rather than doing more for those with the best public transport in the country, perhaps funding should go to those areas where car is the only choice!

Domestic charging points - A new social dividing line?
Whilst grants for homes are no longer permitted, the grants for landlords are there and it is significant...

Battery door cameras
I couldn’t see any above 1080p, in fact only nest and arlo have any sensors above 1080p and even then they’re not all true 2k/4k.
-
Battery door cameras
Looking at things such as ring, Arlo etc and after recommendations. Ring seems low resolution at 1080p and wondered if the 2k or 4K cameras from arlo or anyone else give a better picture whilst still being reliable?

Pipe to power steering pump split leaking fluid
Using your part number (Which is probably correct): https://oemwolf.com/oem-parts/3b2422893c.html https://www.oemvwshop.com/3b2422893c-expansion-hose-from-vane-pump-to-steering-gear-p275053/ https://www.fixparts-online.co.uk/en/audi-flexible-h-3b2422893c.html https://www.german-spare-parts.net/schlauch-part-number-3b2422893c.html Again I can't comment on any of the sites, they're just from a basic search. At least one site implies parts are somehow connected to Moscow, which could cause an import headache. Still it's somewhere to start and if you can find the original spec, a pipe specialist will be able to build you one, albeit at a cost.

Had an accident; InsCo want to write it off. Valuation issues
I assume the L&K pack brings the Elegance up to L&K spec? If so go to them with plenty of prices of Elegance and L&K plus any L&K pack you can find pointing out it's a lot more than they are offering you. With second hand car prices and with parts prices at or around record highs, they can't be offering below cost to replace. Oh and don't forget you can tell your insurance company to replace the car like for like if you can not replace the car for the money they say you can. That always winds them up into a better offer and if they somehow do find the car for the same money, then happy days. Insurance companies in part have themselves to blame for the high number of PI claims, because they charge max, payout min and seem surprised when people then say there is PI after being left out of pocket. It doesn't make it right, but insurance does seem heavily weighted in favour of the company not the insured.

2011 Skoda Octavia VRS side lights not working
Do you have a picture of the headlight type as many use the LED strip as the sidelight and have a redundant bulb in there. Would we be correct that the car has Xenon headlights?

This lot in CZ suggest somebody has one in stock: https://www.oemvwshop.com/3b2422893c-expansion-hose-from-vane-pump-to-steering-gear-p275053/ I know nothing of the company though, so can not verify if they are any good or otherwise. This lot I linked to before list it as a part for the superb, was it them you called? https://www.worldcarparts.co.uk/calculator/steering-suspension/steering-hose-pipe/hydraulic-hose-steering-system-febi-bilstein-33937 Good luck with your hunt, as it certainly doesn't look like an easy part to track down. Hopefully if yours is damaged it's on the hose section, as I imagine you might be able to find a company who could rebuild that if you're lucky.
