That looks like a loose pipe or split pump or bottle associated with the windscreen washers. From memory the bottle and pump etc. are all located behind the bumper and wheel arch liner in that front left corner of the car. Pretty easy to get to by taking the wheel arch liner off.

Check for a leak in a fuel pipe... I had one once in an old chevette and lost about a quarter of a tank in a few miles

Interesting - so basically a ten year return on investment... which is probably why a lot of people haven't taken it up and a good reason why all new builds or refurbs should have it as a mandatory requirement of Planning Approvals and Building Regs. As for "why people don't do the same sums for a new kitchen or for a new extension" they probably do in some form - but the return on investment and justification is usually non-monetary and hence not readily quantifiable.

If a DSG automatic then yes, if a manual then physically probably but you'd be uninsured and not road legal.

What spec is it... The 7 seat manual tdi150s from 2017 and 2018 weren't homologated for towing as far as I remember.

Personally I've never had any issue with hiring an ICE car overseas and I've been doing it every year for about 30 years. I've never been charged to top up a tank as I return them full but then I always use local hire car companies and not the rip off big names... Basically people know the score when they hire the vehicle as i is spelled out and people are told - so if they are stupid enough to get caught then more fool them!

Push the connector towards the sensor. Place your fingernail on the exposed bit of the tab at the top and push it hard toweards the connector. Pull upwards withe the tab still pushed in and it should slide off.

What I was saying is that the shortfall from loss of taxes on ICE vehicles, such as that from fuel, should be clawed back in a way that includes EVs and thier use. I'm not concerned about how, and some of your suggestions are good ones, but it needs to be equitable and the shortfall should not be clawed back by yet another blanket tax on everyone, such as an increase in VAT, or by yet another tax, or increased taxes, on ICE vehicles only. Pay per mile is probably fair with a reduced fuel tax as it reflects total usage.

Isn't the running costs that you keep saying are so much higher for an ICE enough of a 'stick' already?

Hopefully any loss in petrocarbon taxes will be recouped through EV usage taxes or similar for equity and not through another stealth tax on us all
