  1. I would suggest the leak is either from the rear light cluster seals or the rear wiper grommet.
  2. But mitigation doesn't mean avoidance... It can mean adaptation... Ie we accept but adapt to the new reality.
  3. Yes, yes I'm aware of all that... But... Some would call it all part of our planetary evolution, if a little accelerated... On the basis that a couple of volcanic eruptions would appear to have had a similar if not greater effect than man has? So why bother even trying to restrain the sea by raising flood defences except in areas of significance (some areas of London might qualify)? Just let the 13m (?) total sea rise take whatever. From a humourous point of view I live at the top of a hill next to the Peak District so sea one could argue sea level rises won't affect me, even if weather changes will. Again all playing Devil's Advocate to see just how strong your contra-arguments are 👍
  4. I doubt a large volume of water will get in there... Have you checked the plenum drains aren't blocked?

  7. Might I suggest the above may be part of your problems? We've been running Skodas for the last 23 years (Fabia Estate / Octavia 4x4 and now Kodiaq 4x4) and they've been very good and reliable with very few problems in a combined total of probably over 250,000 miles. In fact I'd go so far as to say that they were far better than previous VWs and Hondas within our family history, if not quite up with the Mitsubishi's
  8. Playing devils advocate... Why does it require immediate and sustained action... to mitigate its impacts? The converse (again playing devils advocate) is that the world could simply adapt to the new climate. Please note that I am asking not because I disagree with you but to extract from you your thoughts as to why we have to act and not simply let the word adapt as it has done over millions and billions of years?. The world could simply be left to move on and change in whatever way that might be - be that rising sea levels, extinction of species and even humankind - it'll happen eventually anyway on a stellar basis?
  9. Seat position profile - don't have it and don't miss it. In fact doesn't it only do forward and backwards of the seat and slowly?? Sunroof - don't have and glad I don't given how many Skoda sunroofs have leaked in the past.

  12. Sculling oars are 9 ft 6 inch... so 2.895m. I'd therefore suggest the answer is yes just about if they can be placed through to the front passenger seat. However, why don't you take one down to your friendly local Skoda dealer and try them?

Stupid question but have you checked everything is attached and not vibrating under the bonnet (engine cover, wiring / pipes etc.) - we had a weird noise one time on another car and it was something like a brake pipe that had come loose from its clip and was vibrating in time with the engine revs making a deep knocking noise...
  14. No I think it was all pretty straightforward. Cables are short and there's the usual 'difficult' connectors but otherwise I don't recall any major issues apart from a slight lack of space to get it out and into the footwell due to ducts and the like.

  16. The other thing to remember is that the dashboard temperature gauge is pretty dumb and will indicate 90 degrees over a wide range of actual temperatures (say 70 to 110). The oil sensor temperature shown in the centre screen on the dashboard will be more accurate.

Hi Mike, I 'think' I was able to tell whether the motor was seized by reaching my fingers through the pollen filter opening (beware it has some very sharp edges to it that draw blood easily) and that led to me taking it off. From memory the motor and fan itself were attached to the base mounting plate by a large rubber fitting that had three push fit rubber tabs onto the mounting plate, so I had to use a screwdriver to compress the rubber tabs enough to remove it the motor and fan from the mounting plate and get access to the bearing. It's all eminently doable but did require a bit of scrabbling about to get the motor out and back in, albeit with everything else possible on a work bench.
  18. Yes it is relatively easy. I took out the motor on our Mk2 a number of years ago as it was making a strange noise initially (it had a parking ticket in it that had dropped down inside it) and then stopped completely (the bottom bearing had seized up but a bit of a clean and lubricate sorted it nicely). It can be a bit of a fiddle to undo the wiring connector and squeeze it past other things under the dashboard but it's all very straightforward.
  19. Whoever you spoke to at Listers was talking out of thier arse... IT IS NOT A WET CAM BELT. It is expensive because the timing adjustment is complex and has to be done very precisely due to the fact that the engine has cylinder deactivation and thus requires specialist equipment to do so. Dealers also generally tend to do it over two days due to its complexity, so the labour costs are very high.
  20. I'm pretty certain there are NO wet belt cam belts in any VW Group passenger vehicle EXCEPT the latest Transporter that I believe has one option that uses a Ford wet belt engine...
  21. As noted above you ned to do some more reseach... the EA211 1.5 TSI does NOT have a wet timing belt. And it also has an extended life design that Skode UK have finally caught up with by removing the 5 yearly replacement schedule - bringing the UK into line with the rest of the world.

    Mazda's have generally been very well engineered and put together but they have had a few engine issues over the last few years which I think have been resolved now but have hit Thier second hand value a bit. Did you look at the Vitara or were they too small?

  24. My Kodiaq only has keyless start but the Swift is full keyless entry and start. Regardless for the sake of what the batteries cost I just leave them in (I buy in bulk the cheapest CR2032s I can on ebay which work fine). If yours has a CR2025 in it the dealers has fitted the wrong type (20mm diameter and 2.5mm thick as opposed to the correct 20mm diameter and 3.2mm thick)
