Water leak A pillar - Roof
When I did our I used black Tiger Seal - available from most good car accessory places (Halfords link below for info only!) Tigerseal Black 310ml | Halfords UK I cleaned the gap between the body and windscreen thoroughly with and let it dry, then masked off the roof on the bodywork and the surface of the windscreen with masking tape leaving the gap between them exposed to be filled. The gap was then filled with Tiger Seal and smoothed off prior to removing the masking tape. This was done round the upper edge and sides of the screen.

Water leak A pillar - Roof
I'd be pretty certain that will be the windscreen seal that has started to harden and unstuck somewhere. We had similar on our Fabia estate and Octavia 4x4. You can check by sticking electrical insulation tape around the top and sides of the screen between the screen and bodywork to see if the water ingress stops. If it does just seal the windscreen to the body again using polysulphide sealant over the top of the original.

the truth about electric cars
I'm personally not aware of anything being done to make them legal but it should be. Mind you - it took the Govt 11 years of 'trials' to finally allow Longer Semi Trailers (LST's) to be formally used on the road outside of the trail so it could take a while, by which time something else will have come along! In terms of the parking requirement I totally disagree - they need to be maintained and charged and not cause a hazard to other road users so the requirements are valid and a reasonable way of ensuring the aforementioned happens. The history of bike hire and scooter hire trials shows us a lack of parking requirements means the bikes and scooters simply become 'abandoned' wherever, unusable, vandalised, or stolen etc. - it's why most of the trial schemes or bike hire schemes have been withdrawn. They were a good idea ruined by the inconsiderate actions of a few.

the truth about electric cars
Oops - SNAP! I think the difference is probably to do with maximum speeds etc. and simply because legislation hasn't yet caught up with them. Also they are classed as 'motor vehicles' rather than 'invalid carriages' which have a lot of exemptions. A Class 3 needs insurance if over a certain weight but at such low speeds is unlikely to do much damage. A scooter can travel much faster and some are quite heavy so the kinetic energy of them would do much more damage. At some point in the future I'd expect e-scooters will have a separate designated class based on power and weight, above which they will start to be classed as motorbikes...

the truth about electric cars
I believe that is because they are deemed to be an 'invalid carriage', have a maximum top speed of only 8mph and you don't need a licence for one... even though they should be 'registered' with the DVLA but I could be wrong! Hmmm... Currently totally illegal to use anywhere in public which is unlikely to change. You and your colleagues seem to like breaking the law...

the truth about electric cars
The main delays were from stops and boarding and a lighting times, or from delays to all traffic reflected back upstream from buses at stops further downstream, or from buses being unable to pass other stopped buses due to the lack of bus stop laybys. Re your 40 cars vs one bus, on an open road with the same vehicle speed the bus will be marginally quicker simply due to its shorter length. But as soon as you introduce a stop I'd expect it might be almost a dead heat at best for the bus, or more likely the cars quicker. This is bearing in mind the saturation flow for a single lane is around 1860 passenger car units per hour, so 31 per minute and the stop delay for a bus is typically 2 to 3 minutes, meaning 60 or more cars could, in theory, pass whilst the bus is delayed. And finally, my view is that micro mobility is the ultimate beneficial way forward, albeit I think that needs to include 'micro' cars.

the truth about electric cars
A common comment that is often incorrect - for sure ALL traffic would move better if there was less of it but, on certain routes it is actually the buses causing the congestion behind them and slowing each other down - something that I have evidenced in the past to the Local Authority here by way of detailed analysis and mapping of time-stamped GPS data from the buses themselves... However, for clarity in relation to the earlier bus journey I referenced - it was a journey completed primarily via bus lanes and was not held up by other traffic or parking as the route is well patrolled on a daily basis against bus lane violations via the local traffic wardens in Renault Zoes (in fact it was actually the opposite with the bus stopping at bus stops holding up the traffic and other buses...). However, I'm sure you'll argue you know better...

the truth about electric cars
We've recently been involved in a project where we have proposed a Mobility Hub that aims to combine Car / Bus / Bike / Walking and Micro-Mobility services, options and information in one central location. It'll be interesting to monitor and see how it works in reality.

the truth about electric cars
Depends on how you define 'suitable' really - suitable to their personal needs, desires or financial situation, or suitable to contribute to lower emissions etc. As to the best way to allow more people to get to where they want to go with minimum change to current road infrastructure that again depends on where the start and end points are. Ideally some form of mass transit if it is within or between large population centres, but this tends to be expensive and limited in terms of start and end points - which puts people off as it's not true end-to-end transport. Tram systems are 'in' at the moment but are very expensive in terms of infrastructure and are usually quite restrictive in terms of flexibility of routing and therefore not demand responsive. Buses are better in terms of routings and demand but are painfully slow unless they are Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which then has the same issues as Trams as the routes tend to be restrictive and stops limited. Outside of large population centres it needs to be flexible, quick and responsive - so could again be bus-based Demand Responsive Transport using small minibuses - but most schemes of that type have so far proven unviable in economic terms. Cars therefore remain the default choice, sometimes with Park & Ride thrown in for the last section into larger population centres. So - as I noted, very subjective. Personally, for me and where I live there is a limited PT option that is painfully slow to use and has a service frequency that reduces significantly before I finish work. As an example the last time I did use it, from getting on the bus to getting off it it took nearly an hour for a journey that I can make in the car at the same time of day in about 15 to 20 minutes. That excludes the walk at each end to get to and from the stop. If it were quicker and more reliable - it often doesn't turn up or sails past the stop as it's running late (not sure why as I'm pretty near the start of the route at both ends) - then I might use it but even then the financial cost isn't that far off the cost to drive. Add in the other issues I mentioned earlier regarding my daughter and it becomes a no-brainer to use the car - to be frank you'd be mad not to! London is a different kettle of fish altogether and PT is more the usual choice but still used to drive me mad with how long it took to get anywhere by PT when I was down there on a regular basis.

the truth about electric cars
You've completely missed the point I made... And by the way Transport Planning and Highways is my day job and has been for over 34 years so no need to tell me about the maths... PS... No I don't get tired of sitting in traffic as I enjoy the act of driving. PPS... I haven't come across a single C-charge that has any exemptions for the disabled or those that need to drive... As I said earlier it's a case of those pushing them having zero personal experience.
-
the truth about electric cars
I assume the above is your opinion. However, as the parent of a disabled daughter with significant medical, developmental and other issues I can assure you that the car is in effect the ONLY option. That is something that many people and promoters of public transport, bike lanes and things like the congestion charge simply do not 'get' or understand as they often have zero personal experience of 'the other side'.

the truth about electric cars
I read this thread from time to time and find the ebb and flow interesting... as well as the seemingly divergent views and discussion / arguments that circle round quite regularly... Personally I imagine I'll go EV for my usual daily stuff at some point int he future when it suits me and when I change cars (so probably during the early 2030's given how long I tend to keep cars but I can't currently see a point whereby all three vehicles I have will be EV's. Aside from that isn't the one best way of reducing pollution and energy / oil use of production to produce fewer vehicles and actually get people to think longer term and actually stop those that have the means to from changing their vehicles every three years or so??? Mostly that has come about from the current vogue for not actually owning a car and the having PCP's and the like and from the desire these days of many to 'keep up with the Jones's' by having the latest and greatest model from so-and-so manufacturer on their driveway (even if they then have sod all in the fridge...)

Very nice... my first car was a Chevette but only a lowly 1.3L in mushy pea green! Checking on DVLA it looks like it died around 1997...

Our issue is we're on the south west edge of the city up quite high and near the top of a hill so whilst we can see north that's where the 'glow' in the sky from the rest of the city is and any other direction were looking up into street lights that are higher up the hill. Needs a walk to the farm at the top of the road or drive out into the Peak District...
