Scout differential drone
From my experience on a MkII Octavia 4x4 that's an issue with the rear propshaft doughnut. My guess is it's loudest at about 2300rpm and actually occurs in all gears but is most noticeable in top when cruising on the motorway, gets louder under heavy load and can be 'driven through' such that it disappears at about 85mph? If so Skoda will try and charge you about £800 for a whole new propshaft and then more on top for fitting it but the doughnuts are available separately for about £100 (they are common across the Octavia / A3 / A4 platform IIRC and some independent garages will have had experience of diagnosis and fitting them (albeit this is quite rare - the one I spoke to had only ever done a couple of A3's).

the truth about electric cars
I've often wondered the same and thought a hybrid with a small diesel range extender would be a good combination. It's a shame Mazda don't offer one alongside the rotary REX in the MX30

That's great that it's still going... What are your plans for it?

the truth about electric cars
I treat my phone the same way I do my car - filling up as and when needed - so I plug it in when needed when the phone tells me the battery has dropped below a certain level - no thinking required and no remembering either.

the truth about electric cars
Fair point! Aren't EVs on PCP still more expensive that ICE on PCP though? (I wouldn't know as I've never done a PCP).

That number will actually be increasing at the moment too - as parking provision for residential properties is being reduced through Local Authorities' Supplementary Planning Guidance and many city centre residential developments / blocks of flats currently being built have little or no parking provision.

the truth about electric cars
EH? Most people don't - they just fill up as needed - unlike EVs where people need to remember and think about plugging on a more regular basis (as you said yourself you plug in at home each night - which requires that thinking and remembering - and therefore is contradictory to your second sentence above?).

the truth about electric cars
Noted but that was unclear in your comment which implied inclusion of un-warranted repairs. Presumably, for balance, you have therefore also included things like increased insurance costs for EVs and increased costs of 'disposables' such a tyres and the like? Either way for many the 'general running costs' are less of an issue than the up-front purchase costs, which currently remain higher for EV's vs comparable ICE.

the truth about electric cars
You implied that something like warranty work due to a failed component / engine would be rejected as a result of not having undertaken regular servicing and hence the cost of such un-warranted work should be included in the general running costs. I pointed out that it shouldn't be included in general running cots as any costs would only be incurred as a result of a component failure and were therefore not general running costs.

Really - I think not - as that scenario would only come into play if a 'failure' occurred. It can't therefore be considered in any general 'running cost' calculations.

the truth about electric cars
For reference it also uses other sensors within the device such as accelerometers etc. so it can decipher, for example, whether driving, on Public Transport, cycling or walking - which, granted, I should have mentioned - so not just GPS and not necessarily a GPS inaccuracy problem. Regardless it demonstrates that the systems are not infallible and never will be for various environmental / other reasons.
-
the truth about electric cars
Indeed - the systems remain fallible... as a typical example I have an app on my phone that tracks my driving - including things like max speed, hard acceleration and hard braking - It uses GPS data. The other day it flashed up a warning that I'd exceeded the speed limit, along with similar for hard a hard braking and hard acceleration and informed me that my max speed had been 101mph. I know that is not the case as the car sat on the drive most of the day and the furthest it went was a 14 mile round trip on 30mph roads where there isn't the space or distance to get above that.

Is this signalling the end of high performance cars
As usual though the trouble is that the bureaucrats making up these daft rules and laws don't actually live in the real world, or understand the limitations of the technology available... Nor the wider implications of what they propose. They have a blinkered view and usually only looks at one set of data to justify their thoughts... That data being the one that fits their narrative. Call me cynical but these are the people and the stuff I deal with on a regular basis in my line of work.

Kodiaq 2 PHEV launched in UK from £41,935
True - but it is what it is and small fry in the larger scheme of things... My Swift, if it were registered a few days earlier by the first owner (Suzuki) would have been £30 IIRC but because it wasn't it's Fact it's £180. My MX5 that does very few miles a year as it is only used over the summer is £190 for 6 months. But I get pleasure from driving them and they fit my requirements.

Kodiaq 2 PHEV launched in UK from £41,935
I'm not too concerned about the styling as I reckon it's ok and still much better than a lot of what's on offer from other makes. The price is the issue for me... But I'm hopeful there'll be a few S/H or nearly new bargains knocking around in a few years.

5 seats is fine for some like us. Means plenty of room in the back and a huge boot that remains useable even with a wheelchair in the back. We looked at a Karoq and it was too small for our needs.

the truth about electric cars
I have a friend with a Model S that gets free charging. I can't remember the cut off date but others bought shortly afterwards don't. Also he had a new battery in it free of charge just before his warranty ran out.

I recommended a Fabia to my sister
I had a mk 3 Fabia as a courtesy car a while back and thought the same... Ok it was probably a low spec model but it seemed quite low rent and 'tinny' and not a patch on the old Mk 1 Fabia we had.

Irritating vibration noise
One of the rattles we had on our Kodiaq was from the old port in the bottom part of the dash as it was a very loose fit in its slot.

Only one fog light working
If it's the bulb you circled then as far as I know it's not a fog light but a DRL - so check things related to the DRL's.
-
Vibration from rear end
I'd agree with the above and would suggest it's probably just the rear rubber doughnut coupler that has gone, based on a similar experience with our mkIi TDI 4x4 Ours was most noticeable at about 2300rpm in 6th which was around a 75mph cruise on the motorway. Under load when accelerating it was very loud.

Anybody removed and replaced the sunglasses holder?
That's pretty much what I did - you can do the 'roof' of it too but that can cause closing issues.
-
Anybody removed and replaced the sunglasses holder?
I did mine I situ... Pretty easy all things considered. Cut the felt to size iteratively but by bit then stuck it in using double sided tape. You just need to be wary you don't go overboard with it as too much in the wrong place and it won't latch shut

Chrome ring on one of the heater/AC knobs missing.
There's a few second hand full panels on ebay for less than £20... Might be worth a shot to prize a ring off with a couple of spares.
