The aux socket is exactly what it says on the tin... A simple dumb line in left / right / ground in like a microphone input or the opposite of a headphone socket. It's never going to 'run' a player of any sort.

This is true but on a dark, narrow, unlit lane in the middle of nowhere they are pretty useful in other ways.

On our old mk2 I used washers and closed / blind rubber cable grommets with a slit cut in them pushed onto the corroded bolts and that worked well for years.

Same here... There a young lad near us with a 1.0 Peugeot 106 with a straight through massive exhaust on it that is stupidly loud and would never pass a noise check. I've spoken to him about it and that it's very annoying for neighbours but he's not bothered. He will get reported and pulled at some stage though for it. What's amusing though is that he's clearly got a filter on it as well and in combination has wrecked the tuned length of of the intake and exhaust so the power is well down from a low starting point as it struggles like hell up the hill past our house. He doesn't recognise that though... Oh to be young and stupid again!

Probably not that worrying as it'll probably be a factor of safety applied to a worst case loading scenario where the loadings are well above typical ones. Eg in the UK for a building roof you'd design for heavy vertical snow loading but also do separate calcs for wind loading with side walls open or closed to give variations on roof load and uplift etc. All of these loading change depending upon location in the UK to reflect varying weather etc. but are intended to simulate worst case scenarios that you then design the structure for with factors applied to each element on top. I'd imagine aircraft design is similar (to be honest I can't remember exactly from my time working at a company that made aircraft propellors, fuel systems and landing gear).

Factors of safety are made up of multiple elements - on loads / materials / design parameters and each does add up and multiply the others but none are individually in the region of 11 times. Whilst I'm on it I've just looked at the new June 2023 IStructE design guide for car parks and that references average vehicle weights as 1500kg and maximum vehicle weights as 2,500kg Interestingly the same edition of the above has finally recognised larger vehicle sizes and now recommends larger standard spaces, at 5m x 2.7m versus the previous 4.8m x 2.4m.

Your recollection is wrong and the suggestion of a factor of safety of 20 times is *******s. A bit like your comment that Belfast taxi drivers will drive two hours to save a quid or so on a full tank. 20% is closer...

Ooh you definitely had luxury. Dad regularly used it for 4 adults... Him mum and Thier two best friends who were a couple with the girls sat on the boys laps apparently. After that he got a car with work and finished up with a Triumph Herald from memory.

And my parents had a BMW Isetta bubble car when they first got married (my grandfather wouldn't let them have a moped or motorbike but the Isetta with twin rear wheels passed his test as OK) - pull handle start, no reverse etc. and they regularly got four people in it!

Do neither. The engine has a lifetime belt with no scheduled replacement period (megE or time)
