  1. Just realised i said SE Sheff and meant SW! A clio must be a bit of a step down and sounds expensive if youve bought it twice... But I know what you mean re... My MX5 hasn't been out of the garage in 18 months and with the low mileage ive been doing the Swift suits me fine. We just need to decide whether to give the Octy the TLC it deserves or change it. Well still need something big though for family duties and so we can get a wheelchair in the back as there's no chance of that in the swift
  2. Boo hiss... The Scout has gone! But I know what you mean about them... Our 2007 4x4 has been brilliant in any weather and like yours fantastic in snow in SE Sheffield. Only now is it starting to show its age and need a bit of TLC... So what do you still have car-wise?
  3. Is it a wooshing sort of sound from behind the dash? If so I'd guess its a leak from the turbo outlet pipe as that will have been off
  4. If the heads are corroded or chewed up just cut a slot in them for a flat screwdriver using a Dremel?
  5. Bugger - got the 'report' back from the garage... the main issues seem to be... Propshaft doughnuts on the way out lower engine / gearbox mount bushes heavily worn and breaking up NSF spring broken So the question now seems to be bite the bullet and get it repaired or trade it for something newer?
  6. nothing incriminating on there then...
  7. Think i already am!! And I've already got a slow puncturediscovered when I put it away tonight... But at least its on the front so dead easy to sort and im sure ive got a tube in the garage somewhere...
  8. Had this out today for the first time in ages. It's kept under a motorbike cover round the back of the house so was expecting a nightmare to get it working. But apart from a dry chain with a few stiff links and needing a touch of lubrication on it and the derailleur it was al fine! I'm not though... Might need a new pair of legs.
  9. It showed initially on mine but then disappeared and is now audio only
  10. Great heron pictures. We get one flying over us regularly but I've never tried to photograph it...
  11. Spoke to specialist today and it's booked in for looking at on Thursday. Sounds like they've done a few A3s before with the same issue and think it could be propagated / doughnut related.
  12. Steady and no pulsing. All tyres OK and checked with no sawtoothing (cross climates). Doesn't seem to vary in tone with vehicle speed. Louder under load and acceleration. Sounds like its from the back. Doesnt vary when cornering. All fine at low speeds. Sems to have got worse over winter which is why I'm wondering if its prop coupling as it was used in bad weather and snow so the haldex would have been working and drive going to the back potentially worsening any prop coupling failure????
  13. Resurrecting this thread as drove the Octavia on the motorway for the first time in ages today and the vibration is really bad. 2000 to 2500rpm under load in 5th and 6th. Goes when clutch dipped and revs held steady and doesn't seem to be there at same revs when not under load and all OK at tickover and other revs so thinking its not dmf or diff related but could be engine mounts or prop coupling? Front left wheel bearing done a while ago and rest checked out OK at that time. Any thoughts or recommendations? Car is currently on 94k miles and recently serviced and an engine scan suggests all is OK.
  14. Been inspired this evening to get some old vinyl out tomorrow... Been listening to New Order on Sky Arts...
  15. Given I keep my cars for a long time (eg typically 13 years or more) depreciation doesn't really bother me as much as the upfront cost. However, my understanding is similar to others in that there is a large core of people who don't have access to charging points or driveways and will always want and need ICE powered vehicles, meaning demand is unlikely to tail off and is actually more likely to increase second hand residuals for smaller efficient cars. That's certainly been the case for some vehicles that have been withdrawn from sale as manufacturers start to move across to hybrid and lower emissions versions as they strive to meet fleet emissions targets (eg I understand that the 1.0 boosterjet Suzukis are now in high demand second hand since being withdrawn from sale a few months ago, with dealers chasing current owners to trade them in as they have buyers waiting for them to become available).
  16. draft question but have you changed the oil filter recently? I had a similar problem on our old ATD 1.9 TDi Fabia and it was the filter that had gone... it wasn't due t be changed but had kind of collapsed and folded in on itself somehow so was causing an intermittent warning light when slowing...
  17. Those connections can take a hell of a push to click home properly too. I did one recently on my Octavia and found it easier to refit the clip into its latched position after the hose was pushed home fully.
  18. Link added above.
  19. That's an aftermarket hid burner to fit a H7 halogen light unit. A replacement is probably something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CNLIGHT-H7-HID-Xenon-Replacement-Bulb-2-Bulbs-Headlight-35W-50W-AC-Metal-Base-UK/331468780437?hash=item4d2d143395:g:0hMAAOSwwbdWQx6g&redirect=mobile
  20. I had a civic for a few years without a wiper that was regularly treated with rain repellant. It was a pain so I would always make sure I had one on any future car.
  21. He he... I've till got my Raleigh Pioneer Trail hybrid from 1991... Reynolds 501 frame with a full Suntour XCT Xpress gear set. Was bought for john o groats to lands end (we did 550 miles then gave up in strong winds as it was when sevenoaks became five oaks in a storm) and still works spot on
  22. Don't know but I paid £288 all in to have my Suzuki Swift delivered from Lurgan in Northern Ireland to Sheffield on a transporter if that helps? It was all arranged by the dealer.
  23. The Mk1 Octavia's were very popular with Taxi drivers and the like and I recall that was one of the reasons they remained on sale well after the MkII had been introduced.
  24. So @J.R. was spot on with his prediction...
