Pealing Lacquer
Actually @J.R. is right fingertips (and teeth) are far better at discerning edges or differences in height and texture than the eye. That's why, when you are classifying soil types and clays you use your fingertips fingernails and teeth.

Review of The Highway Code to improve road safety for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders
Fair point Lee the consultation could be a long term one and any specific changes that have legal implications would need to be followed up with legislation to amend things like the Highways Act, TSRGD and the likes of Chapter 8 so it could be a while coming. However we should remember that the hierarchy they are talking about is already in place in terms of highway design etc. and people already ignore it. My concern is therefore that despite an update and any campaign as you suggest, many people would remain oblivious.

Home LED bulbs
All of mine have a glass front cover... That pic was just one I found as typical of the type. Although as it's an mr16 it's only 12v

Home LED bulbs
Those look interesting but what I've found with that sort of 'lensed' LED bulb is that they are very directional and illumination levels and colour consistency fall off quite rapidly away from the straight ahead direction of focus. The bulbs with no lens and surface mount LED's at the front of the glass (see below) are much more uniform and have a better spread of light.

Review of The Highway Code to improve road safety for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders
Good idea but how are they going to make sure that ALL road users of whatever type understand the new rules? Issue of the new 'Code' to all holders of driving licences in the UK plus re-tests for all drivers and new tests for pedestrians / cyclists and horse riders? I doubt it - so yes by all means introduce these but don't expect many people to be aware...

Rob's Ur Quattro
He he - brilliant... are they real faults though? I think she'd drive me nuts on a daily basis 😉

So I went and bought a Jaaaag
Excuse me while I go and throw up... Just what are BMW playing at with their design at the moment - the new front ends are truly hideous and, regardless of how they drive, I could never bring myself to have one on my drive - I'd be truly embarrassed by it every time I set eyes on it and would have to drive it with a paper bag on my head just so people didn't know it was me...

Quite a collection of coins there!

Home LED bulbs
The previous owners of our house fitted recessed gu10 and mr16 downlighters in every room bar the lounge and dining room. I've therefore just had a count up and if I've done it right I have 56 68 (just counted!) throughout the house... When we moved in it was costing me a fortune... Hence my use of cheap LEDs rather than standard halogens!!

Error service: leave vehicle only when selector in position p
if it's a simple microswitch replacement is it possible within the realms of a competent DIY spannerman? Just asking out of interest really as microswitches tend to be industry standard sizes and I've replaced many in things as varied as computer mice to electric showers...

Mk2 Octy Boot Changer
As far as I'm aware it's not coded... Only the headunit is.

Changing cars
I just want one that's honest and straight to deal with and doesn't push a load of stuff I don't want. The guy I bought the swift off was excellent to deal with and even though I purchased from a distance I was confident of what I was getting at a very good price and when the car finally arrived it more than met my expectations. I'd go back with no hesitation (unlike the local dealer who seemed to know nothing about the car and wasn't interested).

Email Client
Hasn't Yahoo changed servers recently? I seem to recall they did which meant the server details in the email client need to be amended?

Start/ stop
In my experience most of the new stop starts do the stopping whilst rolling at less than 10mph these days... And will stop from very early in journey. It's how they are meant to work. Not sure about the Karoq restart but my swift Hybrid uses a separate belt driven motor generator to restart rather than the main cold start starter motor.

Changing cars
My first car was a chevette... 1.3L in mushy pea green with a similar green interior! It then had a black and red stripe put down the side and some big speakers in the side panels at the back with an upgraded headunit. Not sure I could get 80 out of it though but I do recall it got very floaty on the A38 above about 65mph.. I kept it for a couple of years then bought my sister's Nova of her. That was kept for a couple of years and followed by a Mitsubishi Colt that I had for 8 years before buying my MX-5 that I've had for 22 years now. The Mitsubishi was bought by my girlfriend (now wife) so stayed with us until it was 13 after which we got a Fabia TDi estate as we needed more space and more economy for my wifes long commute across the Pennines. The Fabia stayed for 13 years as well as I had it when my second daughter arrived and my wife wanted more space and we got the Octavia 4x4 to help with the commute in winter. The Fabia was only changed as my father in law got a new car so we had his Civic 2.2 diesel off him. That only stayed for 4 years though as bits started to fall off it so I got the swift. We've had the Octavia 13 years now but are thinking of changing it... PS reading that back it looks like 13 years is about right for us and cars...

fit bit type thingys and bluetooth..
Mine can yes as the smart watch registers itself on Bluetooth as an 'input device'. Not sure if others do the same though... For reference it's a Microwear L9.

I want to fix the VED
And in comparison I pay £140 for the swift which weight 925kg and has a co2 figure of 97g/km and is averaging 50.2 mpg round town... Just how does any of that stack up - it's nonsense ATM...

I want to fix the VED
Simplest to me would be a yearly rate based on weight and then slap the rest on the energy side of things so on fuel or electricity to charge. That way the bigger heavier polluting cars get hit more than something light and efficient and likewise those that use more 'fuel'. I get caught currently as I pay more tax on my old mx5 that is lightweight, relatively efficient and does bugger all miles a year than others that have big heavy polluting cars. My Suzuki is also in a higher band than my mum's jazz even though it is less polluting and lighter weight than the jazz... Go figure...

Can't you just take it to a different dealer to be sorted?

Home LED bulbs
I've just been using cheap mr16 or gu10 bulbs from b&m or similar and (touch wood) they've been OK with most having been in for 6 years or more now (which is when we moved house) and this that were present when removed in have been in even longer...

Kodiaq Owners Register
Tend to agree with you there... The Edition do look good and the Sirius could be a bit difficult to keep clean (like the BBS copy cross spokes I had on an old Mitsubishi I had years ago)

Optional insurance with cars - Worth it or not?
Personally i wouldn't bother with sany of them... They add up to £2k of extras you mate never need and even if you did claim the chances are there'd be a loophole that would prevent a payout!
