  1. I know what you mean. I went for the Tiguan with the same 1.5 TFSI engine and most of the electronics from previous generation VW / Skoda and everything works brilliantly. The only downside is the fuel economy
  2. Today would be the first anniversary of owning my Octavia (had I kept it) and it's disappointing to see that these problems are still extant. Given that I took it in the day after and was told by the garage that there would be an OTA update imminently, this is a bit ridiculous. (and I know others had their car a while before I got mine)
  3. This happened to me once with my car when I was picking my son up from uni. It lasted through several locks / unlocks, driving round the corner and repeat. It decided to clear itself after 10-15 mins but there was no indication of what the problem was.
  4. Volkswizard has just uploaded a good comparison of the GTI Mk8 with / without DCC. Springs appear to be the same, it's just the dampers which are different. Interestingly, the DCC version seemed to be riding a little lower at the back.
  5. Both - You're the guinea pig
  6. It all depends where the hardware is that's driving the display. It might be an integrated unit (like an ipad type thingy)
  7. I think the firmware version only tells you part of the story. There's a lot of different processors / controllers in there which each have their own firmware / hardware versions. The top level number displayed on 2 different cars doesn't seem to necessarily mean that they're all running the same hardware / firmware on all of the components. I'm sure there'll be some sort of engineering screen that will show everything but I presume it's not easily accessible.
  8. I'd send them a letter saying that you intend to reject and I would do it today. Hand them the letter in by hand and email a PDF to them and to your finance company (if you used one). It's vitally important that this is not only done in writing but traceable to a precise date and time. It's soon enough after purchase that you should still be entitled to a full refund but only if you act very quickly. Even if they manage to fix all of your issues (and that is a really big if), your car will forever be known as one of "those" cars from the early days which were prone to various problems and it will have an impact on the resale value of your car down the line. When I rejected mine, that consideration played a fairly major part. Note that if you're within the first 30 days, you don't need to allow them a chance to repair and you're entitled to a full refund. After 30 days, they get one chance to fix it and the value of your refund might go down. 9. Out of curiosity, is "upmost" a good thing?
  10. The ombudsman only regulate the garages that sell the cars, not the companies that make them. I've already lodged a complaint with them about my local garage and they've decided that there's enough of a case to look into
  11. At least your dealer is showing some scruples. Mine had the car up for sale within a week (and it was gone within 3). I asked them if they'd fixed the faults that made it non-compliant with the Road Traffic Act and was told that it was not my concern.
  12. One of the main reasons I went down the rejection route is the lack of guarantee that everything will be fixed and, whilst it's all uncertain, you hold the bag for the depreciation of the car which, if they don't fix it, is likely to be a lot worse than usual. Even if they do fix everything at some point, you know that the Buyers Guides of the future will all have a note advising prospective buyers to beware early models as they were often beset by software and other quality issues.
  13. Just out of curiosity, is anyone on here coming up to having owned the car for a full year yet?
  14. I looked at the Ateca when I rejected my Octavia but ruled it out as the infotainment system seemed to be a bit too similar to the Octavia (big screen and no buttons). I was a bit worried it might have many of the same problems. At the time when I chose the Octavia, I was driving a diesel Yeti and looked at changing it for a petrol Karoq. I took the Octavia out for a drive and then took a Karoq sportline out. It was a nice car but didn't seem to offer me much more over the Yeti I was thinking of changing from. It felt virtually identical to drive and left me wondering if I would be spending a lot of money for something that only really looked different from the outside. I suspect the consumption of your Ateca will prob be similar to my Tig. It is such a nice place to be that I don't mind the mpg
  15. To be honest, I would have gone for a Golf but the Golf 8 is essentially the same as the Octavia. The Tiguan uses the Octavia 3.5 / Golf 7.5 platform. The infotainment system has knobs on (oooer missus) and the steering wheel on my model (Elegance) sticks with real buttons. The only minor annoyance is the AC panel which is entirely touch sensitive but it's something I generally set once and forget about.
  16. Honestly, I think they'll fix some of the problems eventually but not all of them. It's a nice car but you need to ask yourself if it's worth it? Personally, I took the view that it's really not worth the hassle and just rejected it. I've been driving a Tiguan for the past couple of months and it's so much more relaxing.
  17. There's some good deals on Passat / Arteon at the moment. I went for the Tiguan myself a couple of months ago. It was a close run thing against the Arteon but I needed something that was a little bit shorter than an oil tanker. You get decent build quality without the latest platform of electronics (when everything seemed to go wrong)
  18. I've got a PDF of one with a front cover that says "Effective from 31 Dec 2020". Is that any use? 2021-02_Octavia.pdf
  19. I'm in the "Never going back to that dealer" camp too. It's going to be a pain as I went for a VW Tiguan to replace it and it means I'll need to drive to another garage around 25 miles away from home instead of the one just down the road. However, they messed me around so much (and for so long) and added a lot of unnecessary stress to the whole process. I'd rather a bit of inconvenience than give them another penny.
  20. I had an issue with mine before I sent it back where Siri would come on whenever I turned the wheel to the right. Not all the time but it did it a few times. This, in addition to all the other problems, led me to reject the car. Dunno if this is related to your "Laura coming on" problem. Does it happen under any particular conditions?
  21. I first reported problems in Sept last year and was told there would be an imminent software fix. I rejected the car a couple of months back and, as far as I can see, there's still no hard date for a fix.
  22. I dunno. Mine was back on the forecourt the week after I rejected it. That was 2 months ago so there's zero chance they fixed the bugs. I only hope they sorted out the matrix LEDs because they were dangerous.
  23. I think we should start including the reg of rejected cars in these so that it can show up if the new owner puts it into google (or bing for those of us who've had the covid vaccine )
  24. Yes, mine was up for sale a week or so after I rejected it and gave them the keys. It appears to have been sold within a couple of weeks. When I noticed it up for sale, I emailed the garage and cc'd Skoda UK / VWFS about it and pointed out that it would be illegal to sell it unless it had been fixed (kph/mph issue) and got a reply from the brand manager at the garage telling me "That is no longer your concern". So, if anyone sees a silver Octavia SEL FE with matrix LEDs, Perseus wheels and the reg WJ70GJF, feel free to point them my way. They've bought a lemon.
  25. I noticed similar behaviour on mine and it turned out the headlights were not working correctly (and I eventually rejected the car). The clip below shows a bit of a smaller country road when the dealer took it out for a night time drive. Since rejecting the car, I bought a VW Tiguan which also has matrix LEDs. The VW ones are far better Since rejec
