Well was driving home last night in my fab vrs (custom code phase 1, jabba RARB, 312mm) and had a play off the lights and beyond (up to the legal speed limit) with a Honda type R.

It left me for dead to say the least very quick car, I wouldn't have expected my car to be quicker but was surprised just how much faster the type r was.

Anyone on here got a fabia vrs that has been modded to a degree that it can take on a civic typeR. I'm curious to know the level required to make a fabia a type R killer - if it is possible at all that is!

I think there's an unwritten rule against vRS vs. CTR threads, 'cos so many of them appeared a little while back. There are a few 200bhp+ Fabias on here, which I presume ought to be faster than a CTR...???

Hahahaha, another type r thread. A type R will always have you off the line. If your already moving and then catch them out of VTEC then you will pull away a little, then it'll be up your chuff unless you've got a VT2 or garrett

Type R = hot hatch as standard. 0-60 in 6 and a bit seconds. Made for racing and getting thrashed.

VRs = mildly warm hatch that is heavy for its size. 0-60 in 9 ish seconds. Not got a hope unless Type R is in hands of a numpty (in gear or not!!!) Needs alot spent on it to be near Type R - say £1000 for new turbo. £500 for custom remap. Cooling for new system = £1000. Plus all the peripherals needed on top (brakes, clutch, suspension, LSD? etc) This should see 200bhp and keeping up with type R till a corner turns up.

Totally different cars though tbh. Vrs was never intended to be a racer. A competent overtaker it is though.

And it regularly sees 50mpg, something the average Type R driver is 1) not interested in 2) will never see...

Saying that - Im happy with my car - about £1200 has seen a car that can keep up with my brothers Cooper S and his 535i (from 40-100 ish) through gears... 1st and 2nd is just rampant wheelspin.

I had an Accord Type R (209bhp) before my Fabia vRS and there's no way you'd beat a Type R in a 0-60mph race unless:

(a) the driver was asleep/stupid

or

( the driver wanted you to win or couldn't be bothered to race

30-70mph is different of course but my Accord ALREADY had a LSD and a reinforced rear bulkhead (like a HUGE RARB!) plus low profile tyres (17").

As someone else has said, the R means Racing and that's what they are DESIGNED to do.

If you want to race (legally of course) then a Type R is for you.

If you want a car that will cruise quietly on the motorway at 70 AND return 45+ mpg then the Type R is NOT for you.

I had mine for 7 years and 102,000 miles.

Having been in a colleague's ATR, though, I found it had zero headroom, and I nearly managed to put my fingers through the bodywork trying to get the door open. I have bags of room in the Fabia, and it doesn't feel like it's going to be dented when it rains heavily. Can't argue with your experiences reliability-wise, but it didn't feel as well-designed or -built IMO.

But coming back to the point of the thread, even a highly-tuned Fabia vRS would struggle against a CTR. But then a CTR is in the sector above, so it really ought to be compared against the Octy. Don't know about the previous versions, but I suspect the latest Octy vRS would give the latest CTR a good run for its money...?

Only 6', but I was in the passenger seat - maybe not adjustable? My head wasn't hitting the roof lining or anything, but it felt close enough that it bothered me...

Im pritty sure jasons should cofidently beat a Civic type R, i know mine used to!!! and with a track day at croft to back it up

I don't dispute that it could beat one, but you would need to seriously mod the Fabia to do so. And seeing as there was only about a 2K price difference between the 2 cars when new.....

My mate next door has a CTR no mods except induction kit. so no real improvement.

When ever we go out in both my VRS and his CTR I never stay with him until we hit motorways or dual carriageways where I can use my midrange. His off the line speed is rediculous compared to the VRS. So really to answer the statement about is it possible.

Yes it is possible if you have the money. (anything is possible) however would you want to is a different matter.

The CTR is a brilliant car in standard mode, make mods to it and it just gets better.

OTR cost £16000+ £11500

really I lok at it this way. with the money saved on cost of car and insurance I can build a VRS to out do a CTR and still have money left over after 3 years owning the car... as long as you spend wisely...

i wish my skoda would beat a CTR, maybe when its heavily modded it will be on par

They really are two very different cars designed for two significantly different purposes. Really, any Fabia is bought because it is a sensible, economical and somewhat reliable car. A CTR is made for track-days and such. Yes, a VRS can be made into a fairly hot hatch, but via significantly sacrificing its original qualities.

Once again, the same old point: why spend more money that it would cost to buy a CTR (reliable as the day is long, specifically designed to race) to make a VRS (also a decent car with different pedigree) compete in only some areas?
