KW v1, v2 or v3?????

Featured Replies

Hi have done a search, to no avail:thumbdwn:

I am enquiring into some new suspension for my octy vRS.

I would like to lower the car however not too much.

havin seen pics of the RED DEVIL and finding that the KWv3 can go a bit higher and lower that in the pic, Id like to get them.

the KWv3 are mucho dinero and cant afford them so was wondering what the diff is betwwen the other two types?

all I really want is to be abe to adjust the hight a bit as i have no clue when it comes to the dampers.

what is the main differences between them and what do ppl think of them?

also who is running what?

these are just for normal road use.

cheers for the help.

If all you want todo is adjust the height of your car then the KW Variant1's will be fine.

Awesome GTI Store UK - KW Suspension Products

I've stuck a URL in to Awesome's website as there is a brief overview of each variant by clicking on them.

I can't really comment on the Coilovers as I don't have them on my car :( I only have the sports springs and dampers. i have been in an Octi 4x4 1.8t with Variant 1's and the ride was 100% better than my vrs at the time.

I have run 2's & 3's on my Octy 4x4, The 3's were definately a lot better. Like most things its a case of you get what you pay for, If you only want to lower it & arent wiorried about handling improovements then 1's will be fine. One word of warning, the Octy has a very thin sump & many have damaged them so please be careful, too low could be costly, you can always get a sump guard fittted

Agree with Stuart, you get what you pay for.

I have KW3's on mine and cannot fault them.

KW3's

As for the sump I know where you can get them from for about £140-£150 so with fitting and oil & filter change your looking about £250 all in!

****Just to add this is for the whole sump (Reinforced) *****

ok found some v1 and v3 for reasonable money, however, anyone dealt with strictly_dubs?????

The KW3 are cheap as i thought they were more like £1150.

If you pay by CC then you have no worries.

Weitec coilovers are the same as KW1's but are made from steel rather stainless.

Worth looking at

what is the diff? and which is best?

Thinking of KW V3 setup for my 4x4, as doing a lot of driving on rough, muddy, pot-hole filled and snow covered roads and tracks.

Does someone have any links to the sump guards ?

The V3's are much stiffer than standard and do not like rough, pot-holed roads and tracks. You may regret this idea. My V3's as standard were hard as nails to the point were I almost threw them in the bin, but a play with the damping rates and its a lot more civilised now, but still expect to feel most road lumps and bumps.

It really is a trade off for improved performance, and not for thos who travel on bad surfaces in my opinion.

ive got the V1s and seem fine, i just went with the faith that KW knew a ruff idea how to make them handle lol and i dont do comp racing lol

I gave the car alot of stick and its still here lol although that was in the 18s days lol the handling is abit twitchy on the rear now with the 20s

that said if a grand is in your pocket hey why have starter when can have the whole meal lol lol

i had weitecs on my mk2 golf and never had probs with them either lol :orb_ipod_

I found the V3's excelent on the 4x4 for fast road work & they kept it all on the road with 356 bhp but I would agree that thet are aimed very much at fast road applications & not semi off road. KW now have a UK office, suggest you call them for advice, I have found them very helpful KW Suspension for high class suspension from the leading experts. Note all versions are advertised as road suspension.

Re the differences

Not sure about 1's, 2's are good & are made for KW by Koni, 3's IMO are the mutts nuts, are made by KW & also have the advantage that when they are tired KW will refurb them for not a lot, a year ago it was £45 a leg

I would guess even the 1's will be better than stock suspension

looks good mate.

can you lift the car up any higher than that or is that as high as the v1's go?

have you ever had 18" rims on with the V1's? still what do you think of them in relation to the std suspention kit?

one last thing, how easy is it to rais n lowwer the ride hight?

cheers mate

V1s are def better than the stock mate :orb_cool:

they made the car alot better to drive and with no real harshness lol i did that with the rims lol lol

and lowered it with no rubbing woooo lol

like most things i supose its down to the cash in your pocket at the time :orb_boss:

i personally have saving issues lol i find sumin to spend it on as it builds lol

yeah the 18s with the kws were great fun, i drove that hard in those days, and i had no probs, there is abit of adjustment left on them but with the 18s on the setting i have now there will be a fair gap in the arches, if i remeber rite i wound the front up 4 turns and back up 3 to fit the 20s? lol :orb_rocki

and as for the ease , the front are dead easy, the back is bit more tricky, if u got a flat smooth surface then u can do with a jack and a buddy to watch over u lol , unlike the dam stones i got to do it on lol

Looking Good mr pearce, that location looks somewhat familliar!

I can certainly testify that when he had 18s and V1's the car road fine and certainly didnt mess around on the corners, if these are in your budget then go for it, they are what i will be going for next

cheers guys

your most helpfull,

they are still bit much but ill stretch if they are that good.

Reason i ask if they go higher is that I dont want the car to go down that much. I want to keep the poised look were as some lowering kits level the car out.

Was defo still poised m8 and you dont have to wind em right down. If you can wait and stretch m8 will defo be worth it. Like i said m8 saving for a set myself as we speak :orb_squoohee hee hee

mine are 225/30/20s i dont have a car full very often but it seems fine if i do and i got bit more carful ,but there is a handy humped road i test my ride heights on, and i can certainly do the national speed limit over it and i get nothing, i get a small buzz but thats if i um lol :orb_angel try over a private hump

the good thing with any coilover is u can find the height you want that doesnt catch,

i will get mr farm to confirm the lack of scuffs when he is on mate
