It's no good, somebody please cut my roof off!

Featured Replies

Do you know why they give you an umbrella with the Eos, tell you what buy one and find out.

Its the only way to stay dry in the rain, roof up or down, makes no odds

Same problem as the focus cc then ;)

I can't believe no-one has suggested this. Spend the money on making your fabia a convertable. I'm sure it could be done for the cost of buying and running a 2nd car.

How about an MX5??

People with A4's,207cc's and whatever other cc's peugot do,EOS things NEVER TAKE THE ROOF OFF!!!

Sorry,rant over,their loss:D

Difficult one this .On the sporty front, suppose a mini but they seem to attract a premium.

How about an Alfa Romeo Spider? *

Hurry up! Only 2 days of dry weather left!

*I they 2 seats? Not sure

I think it would be an amazing conversion tbh - I once posted a similar request for a photoshopped convertible Black Fabia - but nowt came of it.

You'd need at the minimum a steel rollbar to stay safe and would lose some body stiffness.

Also you'd need a custom manual soft-top.

But it would be a total blast to drive!

It's not impossible by any means - perhaps some savvy bodyshop person could start a line in "converting" fabias - probably make a mint doing it too...

steps-

relocate/delete antenna

remove headliner

cut off roof with plasma cutter

alter rear boot to lock/swing sideways - remove rear glass

fit in steel rollbar

fit custom soft-top (adapted from a similar-sized car???)

may need minimal or no paintwork if done carefully

may even save some weight depending on what steel tubing you use for the rollbar

Make a serious amount of money

I love the SLK in this weather :D

Others to consider, with more than 2 seats: SAAB 9-3, Volvo C70

Erm 306 Cabrio as you can get one pretty cheap.

What about looking more towards the CC models such as a micra, 206/207, focus etc?

Failing that plenty of really cheap SAAB convertibles at the moment due to the rather nice turbo petrol engines using too much fuel. What with you being on the island I can't see that causing you too many issues though :)

Another off the wall option, what about an original beetle convertible or Karmen Ghia ;) I mean get one that is old enough to be non taxable and show the friend with a new one how it should be done :D

Can't argue with that :D

I quite like the EOS for looks but wouldn't have one myself.

Oh and Basil, you wouldn't make money off a convertible skoda fabia here

Slightly off topic, I got a call to a New Beetle Cabrio the other day with the roof jammed. when I arrived the elderly owner had got her walking stick stuck in the roof mechanism. the hook end of the stick was poking up in the air about 2ft. It looked like a bumper car.

How about a Triumph Vitesse 6, Headscarf, BIG shades and a nice pencil dress! RETRO!!

Aye.On hols in Devon some very sexy young girl (20's I guess)driving an MGB parked up next to us at Putsborough beach.*

I thought thats just so much cooler than the mini tin tops on offer today.Plus her short shorts made me choke on my drink

Stuff the creature comforts Pixi,get a classic:thumbup:

(*Always got the wife and kids with me at the wrong times:( :D)

How about a Citroen Pluriel? They don't seem to suffer as much as PSA usually do from electrical gremlins.

There's a 306 convertible for sale near me...

Get a Skoda:

Saab 9-3 would do 4 people in comfort :)

Seconded.....great car!

Another vote for an Alfa Spider Lovely lookin cars!

spider07_08.jpg

Or, I hate to say it but the Vauxhall Astra twin top is one of the better looking Bog Standard CC cars around just now:

Opel_Astra_Twintop_Trailer.jpg

Saab 9-3 is awesome in cabrio form.... Or buy a Roadie (the only fun car there is these days - the rest are dull) and sod the midgets

Focus Cabrio?

EDIT: Oops already mentioned :D

Nothing beats this - the ultimate in DIY - I'd have one with a Hayabusa motor, 13K rpm, sequential 6-speed with an electronic shifterwestfield_hb.jpg

But the rear screen is tiny with the roof up , and the interior is horrid hard shiny silver plastic everywhere.

The Renault Megane is a good looking modern(ish) CC and on paper at least has a better spec than most of it's rivals and an attractive price.

And have you noticed what the donor car is for that particular example in the picture?... MX5!!!!!!!!!!

If Skoda made a Fabia vrs cabrio I would seriously consider one, depending on how it turned out. For those of you who have taken my criteria into consideration I offer my sincere thanks.

My goodness that Spider is sexy

Another vote for the Spider here, or if thats too much then there are some great deals to be had on Renaults Megane CC.

Or you get an MX5 like my mates at work The home of slowmx5

Going for 360BHP and RWD, its a scream to drive :)

edited for spelling

I have just been entertaining myself by looking at Z4's and Boxsters on autotrader and I am shocked

There are many that are within my budget comfort zone. Granted, they are a few years old but still very reasonable. This has really brought it home to me how cars can depreciate in value. Is it really false economy to buy such a car that is say, five years old (Z4) or about eight years old (Boxster)? I know nothing about either as I have never made it my business to know.

I'm ever so slightly excited!

If they've been looked after - have service history etc, preferably low mileage, then they can be a bargain as they've already had the 'depreciation hit' (as you say).

Just do more research on service bills etc............

I've only done 15k in my vrs since new (march 06) so I could soften the blow and maybe even things up by taking something with slightly higher miles on it. One of them requires a service every 20k iirc, or that could've been a totally different car!

My local BMW dealer has an '07 Z4 in stock for a fair few quid more then what I've found but at least it gives me a chance to test drive as well as having a getting to know you chat.

I was out in my friends brand new Beetle cabrio this arvo (1.6) and it was a 2nd gear job to get up a hill that my vrs just eats no problem. I know they are completely different cars but I was surprised at how it struggled.
