well... crazyness aside, my 'race' components are starting to arrive

Ooooh... shiny!

Bet ya can't wait for the rest to arrive so you can get it all put together!

Phil

or have a kindly member make them for you;)

like a engineer who's working as a welder fabricator!!!!!!!!!! ;)

to be honest i've looked at the hp set and they dont look all that good, they seem a bit flimsy to me :o

dont be fooled. when i got mine out of the box i found out there fecking hard core!

put it this way, i managed to destroy a wishbone, driveshaft and a wheel hitting a curd going sideways, and the shock is still like new, if they were any stronger you'd be snapping subframes before the shocks gave way.

Isn't a curd the sloppy part of an egg that's left in the pan when you make scrambled eggs? How did you manage to hit one of those going sideways?:rofl:

i can'a read, an i can'a right. but i can'a drive a fellicia

in macdonald's car park:rolleyes:

^^^^^^:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:^^^^^^

Nah, you wouldn't see a classy car like a felicia with HP shocks in maccy d's - but you *will* see the citroen saxo's with off the shelf lexus style lights, dodgy looking spoilers and body kits etc.

The "tuning" ones might well be. The proper HP competition ones are extremely well made - I wouldn't say indesructible ( having broken one, albeit at ten year old one) but they have much thicker stems and proper, rebuildable seals and valves. Top kit.

Let us know how it goes tom...

Currently thinking of doing similar to my e30's and possibly a felly, if I get one...

got a pair of these bad boys... where shall i cut them first :o

I'd remove the damper tubes before cutting them anywhere!

  • Author

it's a fully sealed unit ken'o, so the damper tubes come out comeplete with the piston, i think a good starting place is to drill a hole in the very bottom to release the oil pressure

Releasing the pressure that you could build up from cutting and welding seems like a very good idea!

took the plunge and have butchered them down....

essentially all i have left is an empty casing, i've decided not to cut off the spring platforms yet till the other bits arrive

i've never been a fan of the pattern parts shocks. the proper skoda had a threaded top seal so you could just unskrew the top seal and pull the damping rod out. this way you could service then change oil weights etc...

anyhoo, good work that man.

:rubchin: what next??

bring forth thi welder

oops.. :o just clicked the thanks button instead of the reply button

there needs to be a little bit more lathing before the random weldage pops out...

need to make up some spacers because the strut body and the adjustable height tube thingy are slightly different sizes, plus it's far easier to remove the original spring platform with a lathe rather than hacking it off with a grinder

more updates tomorrow hopefully :D just waiting for sparshatt's to get some parts in

this is what they look like minus the spring platform

next i made up some mild steel spacers to match up the sizes of the two components, these will be welded onto the body first(one at each end of the height adjuster)

100_0092.jpg

audi anybody? :o

next i did a quick trial fitting to get some idea of what it will look like when it's done

100_0093.jpg

obviously, before i weld on the spacers i'm going to strip all the paint off the body and get it nice and clean, also i need to shorten the body slightly so that the damper insert fits properly:)

looking good my friend.

so performance wise, what are there gunna be equivalent to on a scale of "Gmax to spax"
